On my surgery rotation at the moment. I had a patient on Halloween who turned out to have a really bad bowel perforation. It was honestly heartbreaking to have someone's abdomen open and realize how ill they truly were. We spent about four hours on stabilizing the patient for additional surgery in the coming week. As we finished clearing the bowel the surgeon said, "I know this is a pain in the ass guys, but if this was one of you on the table I would be doing the exact same thing". That comment stood with me and reminded me of the importance of the work we do regardless of our medical specialty. The humbling part about surgery is that you can actively witness a patient decompensate and die in your hands. If anything, surgery taught me the importance of preventing patients from having to go to the operating room in the first place. Because although it's interesting and fun, it's also a start reminder that there's a patient whose truly suffering from an illness that could've been prevented in the first place.
Thank you so much for what you guys do. My mother wouldnt be alive today without you guys. You allowed me to continue experiencing a mothers love and that's priceless.
Surgery to me seems to be the most practical of all the medical specialities. I mean in the event of a zombie apocalypse who are you gonna need more, a GDPR manager or a surgeon?
You hear this a lot, but you're truly inspiring. From someone with a similar background, I can't express how thankful I am to have been able to see a person who looks like me and from a similar upbringing achieve--and continue to--greatness. I start my cycle next year and figured I'd let you know you're one of the reasons I know it's possible!
Dr. Webb needs a good microphone just like his cohost
Yea I came to comment the same thing
Dr. Webb and Dr. Maita, as a pre-med student in my second year of college, I cannot express how impactful this series has been! I get so excited when I see a new episode of I AM DOCTOR and I soak in every single second of the show and get so sad when its over. It is so amazing to listen to two awesome physicians keeping it real, shooting the crap, and teaching and inspiring the next generation of healthcare workers and researchers. The fact that I am equally learning and laughing along with you guys is priceless, and I really hope that this series also inspires and motivates other people the same way it does for me, and I wish you two further success as you continue honing your skills as physician-entrepreneurs!
Y’all spitting facts about interest vs money vs lifestyle. You have to sacrifice something because there’s no ideal job. I’d say the most important factor is interest because if you hate doing what you do, it will affect your well-being. No matter the pay or other perks. And yes, people ignore this critical advice all the time and live miserably because of it.
I love the friendly shots they take at each other 🤣
love having this in the background as i study... please keep it up!
For real this series is simply dope!!!
Can’t wait for the next episode
Keep it up guys👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Dope chemistry! Love what you guys do everyday!

I do medicine because I love it ... every patient who come to me and tell me they love the care I provided to them bring more happiness ...
That's beautiful.
Im proud of you!!!
Great series Dr. Webb. I love it Doc. Keep up the great work. DR Webb-# 1 Spinal/ Orthopedic Surgeon-mic drop!!!!!!!!
Tuning in next week!
I have never been a true fan of anybody until I found Dr. Webb
This is so inspiring 🤯
Dr Webb you may see constant thinking and caring about your patients as a downside! I see it as a sign of a great and caring physician!
These are really fantastic episodes of a wonderful series😁inspiring
Can I ask...when do you release a new episode?every week?
I've learn something new everyday. I just need to find a right path to neurosurgery
Really cool video, you guys kept it real
This was great. Thank you for this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Don’t hate me Elias. 😅
I want to be a CRNA. I’m in nursing right now. Very informative series. Thank you and Dr. Webb for sharing.
good luck !!!
Quite interesting & informative episodes. I like how Dr. Maita thinks. He does not seem to be an egotist. Dr. Webb did he really win that hand combat? Love the camaraderie between you two. Everyone should realise that although the surgeon/s is/are performing the procedure, it takes a cohesive team to attain the preferred outcome. Hope you both could celebrate Halloween with your family!!
As a high school student and a future aspiring surgeon, this video helps me get above the competition by teaching me loads of stuff. Appreciate that this type of content is pumped onto CZcams!
so inspiring!
Great video
Dr.
ngl, throughout these videos my eyes are glued to something 🙄
Gonna be honest, I had a great experience with my anesthesiologist, he was the only one I remember from the operating room before I was out to sleep and he really made my experience comfortable!!!!
How do they look?
@@mooseknuckle4007 fantastic 😊
Legend!
I am certain your videos will help many.
Every doc I've asked told me I can make more doing something else with the same amount of hours
Exactly
what about dentists?
@@alobaidi1111 That's if you like Dentistry. I HATE MOUTH AND TEETH. Some people like it. Similar stuff expensive do if you love oral hygiene and meth mouth and you will only eventually focus on the mouth and that's all you will know.
They're lying. Most doctors have 9-5 hours and plenty of holidays while still being top 1% earners. A family doctor in Australia charges Medicare $40 for a 15 minute conversation with a patient. Theyre just sitting down on their chairs the entire work day (many are obese), sometimes getting up to examine you on the bed. Its only in residency or in some fields that you get the crazy hours, but that's purely a decision you make and you can always reduce your hours by chosing a different specialty and still make a ton.
@@matttzzz2 student loans and 3-8 years of residency where you're not making much. Put those hours and years in medical school doing something else and you'll come out ahead
dude you inspire me !
9:25 yea the spine ROI is interesting
Your videos are absolutely inspiring. I could spend hours watching you. I am just wondering....I was never initially in the medical field, I got interested after my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. I went into nursing a bit blind, thinking there was more medicine and autonomy vs ONLY nursing. I am looking for advice, I look up to the doctors and am ALWAYS trying to listen and learn what the residents are being taught in the hallway outside of patient rooms. I am 30 years old, 2 babies and a wife. I want...so bad....to study my butt off, take the MCAT and at the very least, see how I score. I am just so worried my family life will suffer, any advice? I feel like I should made this decision BEFORE all of this but I just didn't know until recently.
You can do it man 🎉
Good conversation.
The rotation I liked the least was surgery. I loved Ob/Gyn but after that rotation I knew that specialty wasn’t for me. After medical school FM & IM were my choices.
I'm second!!!!
Great 👍🩺♥️
Let’s go
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Who else thought that it was weed at the begging of the video? LOL
Same 😂😂😂
Can you do a video on going into dentistry for the money?
Get an audio engineer or something
Absolutely great video. Thank you.
lol Dr. Webb alluding to the "there is fracture I need to fix it" video
Haha
0:32 I thought that was some sticky 😂
These episodes are fantastic but a microphone would really help with the quality of the voices
How did I just find this video
Saludos desde Mexico :)
Que onda !!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Emergency and trauma medicine or anesthesia would be my feild I'm interesting in.....😎
Great ❤️ love from pak 💝
Amazing. Loving it!
Dr. Antonio you are doing an amazing job.
I have a little suggestion. Sometimes it can be hard to hear you. Dr Mostafa has much better sound. Could it have something to do with your microphone? Best regards from Denmark :))
great audio quality. out.
Dr web sounds a lot like the doctor in SpongeBob lol
I thought they were siting behind a shit load of weed
I love these episodes. Please fix the audio quality though!
Thanks for the feedback
@@antoniowebbmd I think it was an isolated incident with this episode. Just caught up on the series, I am really enjoying it. Been listening to it while I workout! I am waiting to hear back from med schools right now, so it is super relevant to me
First Mike is not ok
Dr. Mostafa’s last name tells me he’s from palestinian origins!
You should never do medicine for the money. You pay back tons of student loans. Even if you make it to a high paying specialty, you will spend 5-7 years of residency training plus fellowships and by the time you pay off those loans you trying to save for retirement and it’s not worth it. If you want to make a lot of money do investment banking on Wall Street.
What if you don't have loans?
Then your the exception to the norm that got scholarships or your parents are rich. I am saying if that is your passion and can’t imagine doing anything else then go for it.
EXACTLY WHAT I SAID ON MY COMMENT AGREE 100%
Med School is free in most of the EU though.
Agree!
Is that a table of weed
Great video, but you’re really echoey Dr. Webb.
Men!! 🤣😂. Friends…. Now let’s challenge each other…who’s strongest?? Or fastest…or smarter! So ok…Bro…where’s that leg day? Friends don’t let friends skip leg day….😉💪🏻🦵🏻
