    27:52 the smile on the young man's face after Kavakos pulls off that awesome bowing is just what I needed to see today :)
    I know so many violinists that sit in our orchestra and don't show their emotions of joy because they're letting jealousy get the better of them. They sit there thinking "pfft, I could do that..." and I think that's a real shame.

    What I love in kavakos is that he has all the technical background to take the risks that any performance needs. He is very risky, all the time he tests his own boundaries. That's why he keeps you on the edge all the time. Amazing.

      Sibelius himself forbid the initial violin concerto ever to be performed. The reason for the existance of the recording of the premier version is that the Sibelius family granted permission, only once...so unfortunately I am afraid there never will be a video taken of published of the original version ....but ofcourse I hope that I’m wrong : )

    i don't understand why people don't like clapping after the first movement in pieces like this. i get it if the first and second movements are connected and it's good to keep the continuity, but the first movement in pieces like this or tchaik vc it just feels empty without applause after such an epic performance

    • @arvindiyer1649
      @arvindiyer1649 Před 4 lety +7

      It is considered to be sacrilegious to clap in between movements and besides it can also put off the performers who require a great deal of concentration to play. Ever checked out TwoSet violin?

    • @jacc88888
      @jacc88888 Před 4 lety +5

      I completely agree. It’s a tradition that came in in the mid 19th C I think. Before that there was clapping between movements so it’s not even a purist’s tradition. There are perhaps some instances where clapping is less appropriate (between movements that have a link or need continuity) but most of the time stone-cold silence isn’t necessary. As a professional orchestral player I welcome it rather than despise it like some audience members do.

    About "VC" in the title of this video: You might want to consider that not everyone here on CZcams is sufficiently savvy to know, as you and I and so many others do, that "VC" means "Violin Concerto".
    As inconvenient -- even downright painful and degrading -- as it surely is for you to have to type fifteen characters instead of just two, many viewers, and especially *potential* viewers, will appreciate your going the extra mile for them.
    The convention -- de facto if not also de jure -- here on CZcams is to make video titles lucidly self-contained and self-explanatory.
    (And thus, by the same token, "Leonidas Kavakos" would be greatly preferred to just "Kavakos".)
