    To understand why there was a diesel hauling the electric, watch the full journey video here

    The Loco Pilot is an ace! I mostly think they are usually trained to just wait until a rescue locomotive arrives at the spot, but this guy just ditched the WDP4D and took control of the WAP4 like a boss! That’s real dedication we are seeing here. Operating a pure-electric loco is way different from a diesel-electric, and he was obviously experienced in running both these types to be comfortable enough to operate the WAP4, even from a position where he could not see directly in front and had to rely on the ALP in the front on radio for visual aid.
    This is a great capture of such a unique situation. It is disappointing to see a mighty EMD beast like the WDP4D fall with such ill grace on this occasion. However, I liked the fact that it took a “veteran”, a robust, reliable workhorse of the Indian Railways, the 5000hp WAP4, to rescue the “younger” computer-controlled WDP4D and more importantly, the train itself!
    We need the new WDAP-5 dual-mode locomotives on such routes to eliminate the practice of piggybacking altogether.

      @girichandra4320 Před 3 lety +15

      I also had the same thought. How could WAP4 be driven by a WDP4D driver? Simply amazing skills of both the LP and ALP. LP driving with less visibility, ALP guiding from WDP4D. Kudos to the loco pilots.

    Many LPs and ALPs these days have license for electric loco and diesel locos both. So in this case, LP had...the decision to use WAP4 in place of WDP4 was taken with the permission from Control...the speed limit of 30kmph is a general case whenever visiblity is not clear(like fog) ....so this is all according to SOP....offcourse kudos to both LPs and ALPs...they are the blood of IR...

    I enjoyed travelling on Indian rails for three weeks in December 2019. Such marvellous long journeys, though I didn't visit Chennai, but did much else from south at Coimbatore and Ooty to north at Shimla. In politically correct Australia, we would never nowadays be allowed onto the tracks. Great English synposes in the video, excellent filming and atmospheric.
    From what little I could see in the video, great that patronage has started to increase after some months of being extremely badly hit by COVID-19.

    Believe me, WAM 4 coupled with a WDM and WDM piggybacking WAM4 for such ICF Mail/Express trains in such section look awesome. I had seen ones in childhood; during 1995 in Raipur-Durg section.

    Great Coverage Bro😍👍 and when you are journey by Chennai - Ltt Kurla Express COVID-19 Special runs with Electric loco of WAP-4 end to end with Electric Traction and also attached with Diesel loco ahead in Piggyback system from Wadi - Pune(Via. Solapur) line section in unelectrified route. On this route from Daund - Kurduvadi Electrification get complete and Kalburagi - Wadi is already Electrified but Bhigwan - Bhalwani Doubling line work constructions is going on. Bro when you are travelling by this train and EMD Diesel loco of WDP-4D attached ahead to rescue operation by this train on Solapur line section in unelectrified route. During rescue operation but EMD Diesel loco of WDP-4D is failed but everyone come out from this train and also capturing an EMD diesel loco but this loco does n't work. And Electric loco of WAP-4 doing both, pushing EMD and pulling the coach in Neutral Zone. After that WDM3A come to rescue the EMD loco in Loni. And Now WAP-4 to take charge this train.
