Tales from the Hood is a 1995 American horror anthology film directed by Rusty Cundieff and executive-produced by Spike Lee. The film presents four short urban-themed horror stories based on problem concepts that affect the African-American community in the order of police corruption, domestic abuse, racism, and gang violence, all presented within a frame story of three drug dealers buying some "found" drugs from an eccentric and story-prone funeral director.

The original “Tales from the Hood” is a true classic. It had great writers and Spike Lee was behind the scenes with the production company. It was a disappointment that the sequels couldn’t live up to any thing near the original.

Tales form the hood is severely underrated it was thought provoking , comical , and lastly Scary it touched on key issues in the black community that still plague us today. Police brutality , domestic/child abuse , racism , and gang violence/ black on black crime it was able to be have social commentary without straying away from the fact that’s it’s still a horror movie it was the get out before get out. Great ensemble cast , dope soundtrack and a masterful performance from the late Clarence Williams III glad to see y’all giving it is flowers 💯

I think I was the only one that knew the green stuff was embalming fluid. Like, everyone always asked what the heck was the green stuff.🤣 As for the special effects, I believe they were made that way to remain a bit comic book-ish, paying homage to the comic book based horror anthologies. But David Alan Grier's monster shadow was the same head used for the Satan costume.

I think that the reason Mr. Simms was acting like that was that he was trying to tell the three dudes that he was the Devil without coming out and just saying it. It's just that they weren't paying attention the whole time. He even told them halfway through that "They want the shit.. They are going to be knee deep in The Shit.." The whole thing with him turning on the lights by touching them was another sign that they should have smartened up and realized that they were no longer in normal reality so to speak.

A lot of things weren't made clear because it wasn't really that necessary. It's an anthology number 1. So, ain't nobody got time to be telling you no whole backstory. You gotta pack a punch in like 20 mins or so. Number 2, the whole plot is real life issues in the black community with a supernatural twist..... emphasis on the word "supernatural". Supernatural stuff usually can't be explained anyway. So, it wasn't really necessary to have a whole history lesson in who, what and why things were happening the way the were. I think y'all just might have been trying to delve too deep, instead of just letting the movie be what it is, very millennial mentality of you.(jkng) 😆😆😆No disrespect, just saying 🙂✌️

😎 Seen this movie a thousand times➿️ since it came out, Had it on VHS📼, I know all the words🎬 & I had the Soundtrack!🎶... Trust, I know this movie start 2 finish!🎞... Theres alot of hit & miss⚠️ info given in this review & alot of important details that were overlooked during each breakdown they gave🧏🏾‍♀️, tho 4 the most part, they took us down memory lane 4sho!🙆🏾‍♀️🔙
Lets touch on the missing links💁🏾‍♀️:
So basically, Lil Homie Ball set up conversation 4 Sims 2 start telling each story the moment Ball asked 🤷🏾‍♂️"So what happened 2 him?"... 🤦🏾
As far as 1️⃣st Chapter, Clarence basically fucked up by not stepping in 2 save Moorhouse & allowed those dirty cops 2 get away with murder & ruined his good name by the drugs they planted & injected him with.💉 Clarence was haunted by Moorhouse 👺because of it turning him into a full blown drunk.🍺🥃 It wasnt until the 1 year anniversary of Moorhouses death that his ghost, 👻who is obviously unrested & pissed at all of them👺, had Clarence gather all those cops 🚔& bring them 2 his grave🪦, which was the least he could have done at that point after the damage was done a year earlier. Moorhouse didnt pop out until they were all summoned 2 him🪦 so he could take them all out.🩸 As far as the green fluid,🧪⚗️ I always figured it 2 be a metaphor 4 how they killed him with the drug injection 💉& tarnished his name📢.. & the memorial painting on wall was in a location that overlooked a crack alley basically so it made sense 2 me at the time. There wasnt anything 2 do with magical gouls & shit, it was simply revenge👺. Clarence paid the price 4 his involvement by taking the rap 4 killing those 3 cops⚖️ & went mad from it. 🏥
Chapter 2️⃣ was all about the mind🧠, perception💭, & reality👁 of Walter!👦🏿 Ones Perception💭 is ones Reality👁🤲🏾, therefore, heres a lil boy who lived with a Monster👺 whos hurting him 👊🏾left & right 💪🏾2 where it caused the mother 2 keep moving towns 🏘& schools because of the abuse 👊🏾& Walters perception💭 & telling storys 🗣of the Monster at home🏚. Its because of the moms boyfriend👤 continued 2 follow them🆘️, cause if U pay attention, Walter is the new kid in school, after that fight👊🏾 that same day, 👩🏾‍⚕️the nurse says the bruise on his eye was weeks old & forward 2 the reveal of Walters fresh bruise on his arm, he told the 🧑🏿‍🏫teacher "Hes Back!". So its Walters reality🤲🏾 that he tries 2 get others 2 see👀 that he continues 2 get punished 4👊🏾. When Walter believed that he could finally fight back💪🏾 by destroying the drawing✍️🏿 he drew of the things that scared him🙈, the teacher🧑🏿‍🏫 took the drawing✍️🏿 from him but he knocked over the drawing of the bully🃏 Tyrone, & when Walter crumbled it up, he saw it caused the kid 2 break every bone🦴 in his body! U really think Walter would be able 2 draw those types of things at home?🤨... It was always clear 2 me that the mother Sissy🧖🏽‍♀️ wasn't getting beat at 1st, just her son👦🏿 was cause she had the ability 2 throw men off with her sexuality🧖🏽‍♀️ as she tried 2 do with his teacher🧑🏿‍🏫 2 throw him off subject, saying her son is clumsy 🤦🏾‍♀️& whatnot. Once the topic of the Monster was brought up is when shit got real.🤌🏿 The mother had been trying 2 get her son 2 stop🙅🏾‍♀️ telling folks about the Monster 4 his sake. Now remembering that this story touches base on what goes on in the lives & more importantly, in the mind🧠 of abused children👫🏿 & their family situation👥️️. Being evil David Allen Grier name was Monster👺, he 4sho lived up 2 his name & thats exactly what Walter saw👀 when he seen him👁. Notice the Monsters visual perception was that of the devil 👹at the end? It wasnt until Sissy finally stepped in 2 save her son that the Monster turned & beat her ass! Hear evil David say "I see he aint the only one that need a bare ass whoopin!"💪🏾... Thats what caused Sissy 2 grab that skillet🍳 & swing on his ass but failed! Walter grabbed the drawing & it was a wrap!☠️ ...
Chapter 3️⃣ was what made this movie what it was! Fuckin Duke🇬🇧 was hilarious! "I killed one of U, I'll kill U all! YOU LIL NIGGLETS!"☻️... And they pretty much covered the main facts👍🏾 about this chapter. ☝🏾Except the part about wanting to keep the painted mural, .. he actually said "I'ma paint the whole thing over after the election!"🎨. ☻️Them dolls did him in tho!👵🏿👬🏿👫🏿👭🏿 So on point!💯👏🏾🙌🏾
Chapter 4️⃣Krazy K🤬 they got all fucked up leading into the overall story being told in itself. 🤏🏾So they got the concept of it all relating 2 what choice Jerome aka 🤬Krazy K would end up choosing that would decide his faith in end.💁🏾‍♀️ The option he was given 2 endure this program & procedures was all 2 👁wake him up 2 the real issue at hand!🤌🏿 Krazy K's🤬 encounter with the clansman🤚🏻 & during the flashback exercise when he was tied & spinning on the cot, playing Spice 1's Born 2 Die during that whole scene while 📽showing him the same significance🤌🏿 between black folks been killed, tortured, & hung back in the day✊🏿, only 2 now having black folks being killed by their own people thru gang violence🙏🏿, etc. (Thats actually the only rap song U hear clearly throughout this movie aside from the credits) But all that was 2 set him up 4 how he would handle that last sensory exercise where he needed 2 confront all the people he killed! All in all, 🙅🏿HE AINT GIVE A FUCK🖕🏿, therefore he sealed his own faith.☠️
Overall, the fact of how 👹Sims even knew what happened 2 Krazy K🤬 is what set off everybody 😤& got his ass pistol whooped!😡... So just like the purgatory concept of Krazy Ks🤬 chapter, so was the entire movie 4 the 3 homies who were all killed by Krazy Ks homies☝🏿, not the cops!🙅🏾‍♀️👮🏽‍♂️...
    😈"I guess... U didn't make it!".... ⚰️😱👹🔥💀

To be fair, the mother didn't know the teacher was coming. And it wasn't like she was pushing up on the teacher in front of "the monster". But I also think that if she thought she could possibly seduce the teacher, it may have been a possible way out of her life for her and her kid. I mean he was caring and supportive.🤷 And the boy never said his mother didn't believe him. He told the teacher that "the monster" said nobody would believe him. I lived in san diego at the time when it first came out. I was 7 & I remember the posters at bus stops & the radio commercials were scary. Overall the movie scared the crap out of me when I first seen it. Kept the light on as a kid. But as I got older I understood the human side of the stories. This stuff still goes on today.

But the cops didn’t shoot those three gang members. The devil guy told them that what do you think was going to happen after you shot Krazy K? That his homies ran up on you guys and killed all your three too. Basically, the cycle continued. What had happened with Krazy K offer is that he would have gotten saved by the cops if he had accepted to redeem his old ways and those guys would have gotten killed while they were exchanging gun shots with the cops but he didn’t give a f, so those guys shot him. I don’t think the cops showed up because if they did and they got shot, those guys would have been wearing the same clothes without knowing that they were killed.

Theres was never any rap song playing in the beginning... it was an instrumental piano style tune playing... U must be thinking of Crazy K's story during the flashback exercise when he was tied & spinning on the cot, they played Spice 1's Born 2 Die during that whole scene while showing him the same significance between black folks been killed, tortured, & hung back in the day, only 2 now having black folks being killed by their own people thru gang violence, etc. Its actually the only rap song U hear clearly throughout this movie aside from the credits! (Seen this movie a thousand times since it came out, Had it on VHS, I know all the words & I had the Soundtrack!)... Trust, I know this movie start 2 finish!... Theres alot of hit & miss info given in this review & alot of important details that were overlooked during each breakdown they gave, tho 4 the most part, they took us down memory lane 4sho!

@@4Firehott I think you just solved the case. The only crazy part is my mama said the same thing about the song missing on the intro. Maybe our memories are foggy cuz it's been a while since we both saw the movie. Thank you for clearing that up because I thought I was going crazy 😅

This movie was excellent.i don't appreciate it even I was younger but my mature eyes definitely see the the project for what it really was. You can't really roast the timelines because they're shorts. You have to pack a lot in a constricted amount if time. And it's meant to be campy. You're over analyzing.
