As of March 2018, Google is rejecting alot of shortened URLs when they are being made in the QR code generator. If you are getting a rejection message after shortening your URL in the QR code generator, simple LEAVE THE URL LONG OR you can create a shortened URL by taking your URL to tinyurl.com/ and create your shortened URL, then copy your shortened URL and go to the QR code generator & create your QR Code, DO NOT CLICK SHORTEN QR CODE SINCE IT IS ALREADY SHORTENED !! After contacting google, I was told that Google is experiencing a glitch in the system and is rejecting 85% of google related URL's that are shortened. My solution : Just leave them long. The shortened URL just makes things much simpler, however, leaving the URL long is just fine as well. Hopefully Google will fix the glitch.
If you are using OneDrive or another place to store your audio clip & to get your URL, then this should NOT effect you at all. This is for those that are creating NEW QR codes for new pieces.

All you would need to do is have another device available to record as you play the voicemail clip that you want to capture the audio from & then email the recorded clip to yourself & create the soundwave from there. I hope this helps !

You can skip the step of uploading and converting your wave form to a .png ifs you simply screen shot your recording and crop it.

I'm not sure if google drive has changed, but after I send the voice memo and save it to my drive, when I try to open the file it says "no preview available". It keeps wanting to open it through my Apple Music. I have the option to download the memo so I do. Was able to get a link and QR code but when you scan the QR it again says no preview available. Any advice? Thank you!

I followed your instructions exactly to create the QR code and I had no problem creating it but I cannot get it to play. I have tried 4 different readers and all of them say that it cannot be played. I don't know what I did wrong. I know this an old video so I hope you still get the comments. I really want this to work. I have a million ideas rolling around in my head! I followed this tutorial and it's works perfectly on my android. However, when I scan the qr code with iPhone or iPad, it says "There was a problem playing this audio file." any suggestions?
If I don't have Silhouette studio, can I use canva or another program? I saw there are some free versions of silhouette studio , would those work?

Yes ma'am, as long as you can play the video or the CD and use your phone or another recording device to capture the audio, you can certainly get the audio from the voicemail or CD ! Just play video or cd & hit record on your phone while the audio part you want to record is playing, once you have captured the piece you want to create, click done on your recording and finish the steps to create your soundwave, etc. Its very easy ! =)
Hi how can the sound automatically play when they scan the qr code? Once i scan it it takes me to the drive but then i have to click download in order to play the sound if not it won’t play
Oh my word absolutely love your tutorial I made two last month and was easy to follow but I went to make one yesterday for mother day and the week code generator isn’t working when I create the link and paste the url and go to Save the static qr code and hit save it comes up safari can’t open the page?? Is the site down or am I doing something wrong 🙈 any help would be really appreciated

Hello Jennene ! You can do this in either HTV or adhesive vinyl. I've done it in both & both work wonderfully. Weeding the QR code isn't difficult at all. =)

I'm so bummed. When I go to scan my qr code all it gives me is the url. No audio. I have tried both the google drive and my one drive. Neither one will play the audio. Google says I can't even play it and that I don't have access to the file after I downloaded it. Not sure what Im doing wrong here.

What is a good length of recording that can be saved and designed? I guess the recording can be longer than the actual soundwave seen on the design.
I created a qr code 3 days ago and now it's saying qr code disabled is there a way to fix it I haven't had issues in the past just the last 2 I created

Hello & Good Evening Kitah ! Yes, if the person you are gifting it wants to listen to the audio file that you have put in the QR code, then they will have to download a QR code reader in order to scan the QR code & listen to the audio clip. =)

maria ervin as long as you created the qr code as I show you I the tutorial and you Do Not delete the audio file from where you put it, all the person will have to do is download a qr code reader and scan the qr code and they will be able to listen to the audio clip. Hope this helps!

I am wowed!! I had seen the sound waves, but never thought about being able to add the audio and hear it!! How?? How can it be played with no speaker?? The qr code that you would create & add to the piece of art that you make. When you explain it to your customer, you tell that you can include a qr code that will allow them to listen to the audio clip that the sound wave was created from, however, they would need to download a free qr reader in order to hear it. They would scan the qr code & they can hear the audio clip anytime. Now -- you as the creator of the qr code -- where ever you save the original audio clip (in the cloud as I mention in the tutorial) HAS TO ALWAYS stay EXACTLY where you uploaded it OR the qr code will stop working. So, just be sure that you never delete that audio clip from where you put it. That's why I recommend making a new folder for audio files & be sure to name the clip exactly what it is & for who it is for. =) I hope I didn't confuse you. =)
Okay - I didn't think about having to have a device to play it on. So that answers the speaker question. But is it possible for it to work if it is saved to a folder on my computer or storage drive? Thx
The device to play it on would just be their phone. The qr code reader is an app that they download their phone. =) The audio file would need to saved to a cloud storage drive that would allow you to get a shareable link (url) in order to create the qr code. Once you get that url from the cloud, where you store the audio file, you can't delete or move the file or the qr code won't work.

How big should I make the QR code? I cant get it to cut out really well and when I try to pull it off with transfer tape, a bunch of the code squares come off or rip off. It's a big old mess.

Yes, you can use a Cricut Air to make the designs, however, I'm unable to help you in what steps you need to take in the design process since I"m not familiar with the cricut software. As for the recorder, there are several you can choose from you can google free desktop voice recorders for windows and several will come up. =)
I'm trying to download the recording of my granddaughter. I emailed it to myself and i also have gmail. when i hit the download button it comes brings up an audio player and not the save as window. Do you have any idea what i'm doing wrong. Thank you

Hi, this was a great tutorial. I made one for my daughter and worked great. Went to make a second one for someone else and google will not let me shorten the URL. I have cut the unshortened version and works fine but as soon as I put it on the mug it won’t work. Do you have any suggestions. I have done it several times
Hi Darlene ! Sorry to hear you are having trouble ! For some reason, over the past week or so, google isn't allowing people to shorten their URL's. So, we are having to leave the URL's long, which is fine, we were just shortening them for simplicity. So, just skip the step where it say to shorten the URL & go straight to creating the QR code. If you made the QR code using the shortened URL, you will, sadly, have to redo it with the longer URL since Google is disabling the shortened URLs that have been made recently. When I contacted them, they told me that it is a glitch in their system that they are trying to fix ASAP ! When putting QR codes on mugs, be sure that you are putting it on more of the 'straight' area and not on the more rounded area. If you put it to where the QR codes rounds out more, the QR code reader doesn't always pick it up properly to read it. So, if the shortened URL wasn't used to make your QR code that you put on the mug, then that may be the issue. Please let me know if I can help you any further ! I'm always happy to help anytime !

when you put this on canvas you cut it on black vinyl?
You can use any color of vinyl for the soundwave and the wording. I recommend using black or a dark vinyl for the QR code so that the QR code reader will read the code properly. I hope that helps !
so after saving my QR code i scan it and it says 'there was a problem playing this audio file' but there is an option to download it afterward..Im just hoping my parents who I was going to send this to will not have that setback
Did you create a static QR code when you created it or a dynamic QR code? Now, this might now be the issue but I'd check this first. Sometimes people don't realize they created a dynamic QR code & if they did that's a BIG no no because it will expire BUT if you created a static QR code, it will never expire & won't expire. Now, if this isn't the issue, it could be sometime as simple as the QR code reader that you are using isn't a good one, etc. Either way, I can help you figure this out. =) Just let me know.

when i try to get the wave image it says file type not supported so i can't upload. Saved from samsung phone to computer
hmmm, that's odd. I have a samsung phone & save to my pc all the time. Maybe try to play the audio file & just do a screen shot of the audio wave from the recording app & then take that screen shot into studio & trace the sound wave that way.
When I email it to myself and save it, it's an amr file, not a wave file. How do I make it a wave file?
The audio file needs to be an mp3 file. If your file saves as anything else, you can convert it using a conversion website. The website to convert you file is : www.zamzar.com/ Hope this helps ! =)

Do you need a google account to hear it? My husband tried the one I created and it asks him to sign in with his google account. He doesn't have a google account
No ma'am. You are going to have to go back to the audio file, click on share & then make sure that you selected "ANYONE WITH LINK CAN VIEW", this will allow anyone that has the QR code to listen to the audio file without having to have a google account.

What you can do is, open your audio file on your phone, then select share, then email your audio file to yourself & then upload that audio file to google drive or onedrive to create your URL & continue with the process of creating your qr code & soundwave ! =) Hope this helps !

thanks so much for you tutorial, its amazing. I was able to do it first try, but now a day later when i try to open up the QR codes i made yesterday that worked fine will not play today. I get a message that says " Whoops! There was a problem playing this audio file. I tried to have my sister open it up and it wont for her either ( android users) but My daughter who has a I phone can still open them. I have unistalled the QR reader, I have remade the files, and still get the same message.If i click on the download option on the QR scanner( on my phone) I get web page not available ERR_too-many_redirects.. I have no idea why all the sudden there not working, HOping maybe you do?? Im sooo confused....

Is your qr code still saved in the same spot where you created the link ? Meaning, did you delete the audio file after creating the code ?
no i saved it on google drive and its still there, I also saved to my hard drive so i could print them
i tried to scan your file from the video and get the same error message. Just tried to make a new one and still same message, i left it on google drive just to make sure.. and nope ...
hmmmm, not sure what's going on. I just scanned all of my codes from the video & they are still working perfectly and I'm using an android phone. Okay, when you save your audio file in google drive, you went to share & created your link & then went to the qr code generator that I used in the tutorial, correct ? If so, did you click on shorten the URL before continuing ? Also, make sure that you have not deleted or removed the audio clip from google drive after you have made your share link.
i made a text scan and they work fine, its just the audio files that are all the sudden not working. I dont understand how they worked yesterday but now no matter what audio QR code i click on i get the same error message ( same with my sister) I have made several new ones and i get the same error message if its a audio file. is it something with my google drive thats not allowing them to be shared??

Hi Colleen ! Yes ma'am, the QR codes can be tricky to weed. Alot of people choose to use printable vinyl for them OR reverse weed them. Do you know how to reverse weed ?
To use HTV, do I need to reverse it to cut it out?
Hi Terrellee ! Yes, if you are using HTV, you need to be sure that you reverse your entire design including your QR code ! =)
you lost me at Google Drive :( What if i don't use that? is there another way?
google drive or one drive are the two cloud drives I recommend. Unless you use another cloud drive that allows you to share files & lets you create a link to that file, those are the only options that I know of.
What HTV or vinyl do you recommend cutting this on?
Hello & Good Morning Gail ! I've used Siser Easyweed HTV & Oracal 651 adhesive vinyl both for these projects & both have work great ! =)
Thanks for your fast reply! Do you take the canvas off the wood and heat press the htv on? Do you seal the 651 with anything after applying it?
Depending on what the customer wants, I may take the canvas off & do a reverse canvas but you certainly do not have to do that. I've done the canvas with HTV without taking it off of the wood. You would just place your HTV & press with your heat press for 5-10 seconds, 2 times, remove the carrier sheet & then do a final press without the carrier sheet. As for the adhesive vinyl (651), I do not normally seal them with anything, however, the one of the baby heartbeat I showed in the tutorial, they requested it to be sealed, so what I did was after I had all of the vinyl adhered onto the canvas, I let it 'cure' for about 12 hours (overnight basically) & then I took Krylon Colormaster Gloss Crystal Clear spray (in the spray paint section at Wal-Mart) & lightly sprayed the canvas going in one direction, from top to bottom. I let that dry for about 15 minutes & went back & did 1 more light spray. Be sure when you spray you don't spray too close to the canvas or it will cause puddling and it will ruin the piece & the vinyl will curl up. Anyhow, after it was dry it looked fabulous !! =) So, it is totally up to you if you seal them or not ! =)
Last question...and I will be done driving you crazy..lol...do you paint the canvas first? With acrylic paint?
You aren't bothering me one bit ! =) Normally I do paint the canvas with at least one to two coats of acrylic paint. You certainly do not have to paint the canvas, however, if you are using adhesive vinyl if you paint the canvas it will help the vinyl stick better ! =)

Hi Esme ! Sorry to hear your QR code is saying disabled. I'm not sure what could have happened. I know last week there were some issues on the generator when people were shortening the URL's for some reason so I just had them leave the URL's long & create the QR codes that way & that seemed to resolve that issue. That very well may be the issue in your case if you shortened your URL where your audio clip is. Did you shorten your URL when you created the QR code ?

Sure you could! You can just print them on paper instead of cutting out with vinyl or HTV.

The qr codes I have downloaded don't automatically play it it pulls up the url then you have to select it and sign in with gmail account. What am I doing wrong lol?
make sure that your audio file didn't save as an m4a file. I had another lady have the same issue and it was just simply that the audio file was saved as an m4a file and in order to play it, it had to be downloaded, etc. instead of just scanning it and hitting play. The file needs to be saved as an mp3 or mp4 file in order to be scanned & you be able to hit play once scanned. =)

Hello ! It should save automatically when you save it, however, if it doesn't, you can take your saved audio clip & go to this website --> audio-converter.online/ and upload the audio file & it will convert it for you into an mp3 file and then you would save that mp3 audio clip. Can they hear it if they save the link in their google drive? Just thinking what happens if it gets deleted off of my google drive.
Hi Lynette ! What you can do, is have your customers save it to their google drive or their one drive account & have them send you the link to the soundwave they saved & then you can turn it into the qr code that way. If you save the soundwave in your google or one drive & make a link for it to make the qr code, if you EVER delete the audio file, the QR CODE will NOT work any longer. So.....you have to be careful not to delete the files where the links are if you are saving them or have your customers save the file & send you the share link so you can create the code, etc. I hope that makes sense. What size is the sound wave in length & height that you are cutting ?
Can the recording be saved like in Cloud or somewhere where it will not be accidentally erased?

the QR code does NOT expire, however, if you EVER delete the audio file from where you created the url link from to create the QR code, your QR code will no longer work. So, as long as your audio file stays where you originally put it, the QR code will always work !!

Great question, if you don't have google drive, you can either sign up for a free google account & then you will have access to your own google drive at that point OR you can use onedrive. Hello & Good Evening Tracy ! Yes, you can get audio from your video. What you will do is play your video & use your phone to record the audio that you are wanting to capture. I'm having trouble when trying to trace the QR code. I have tried every setting and it comes out fuzzy and not nice straight lines. What am I doing wrong?
make sure that you aren't enlarging your qr code or it will come out super fuzzy. If you need to, use your snipping tool or screen shot the qr code in order to make it to where it isn't too small for you to trace OR zoom in as close to the qr code as you can get & then trace it. Once it is traced, remove the original that you traced, fill the trace with black color & then enlarge it to the size you need. I always tell people NOT to cut their qr code larger than 1 and a half or 2 inches in size or it won't work properly with your qr code reader. Try that & let me know if you need any further help ! =)
When it was coming into Silhouette it was fuzzy already so I went and regenerated it. Everything works fine now. Thanks!

HI Katie ! It really depends on what size the customer wants and what all they want on them. I don't sell them smaller than an 8x10. So, If I have a customer that wants just a single sound wave and no qr code, single color, I charge $10 -$15. 8x10 with sound wave and qr code, single color is $18 and the price point goes up from there. Of course if they want an image put in with the sound wave and personalization, the price goes up a little. I won't do an 8x10 with multiple sound waves and qr codes simply because, in my opinion, its just too small to show the sound waves like they need too, if that makes sense. I always work with my customers & try to work with their budgets but you also have to remember not to short change yourself & your work as well.
