I've been a GoPro user for years now, and recently I bought a DJI Osmo Action 4 because of all the issue's I've had with every GoPro. I was a little bit apprehensive to get one considering the GoPro 12 was coming out not long afterwards, however after watching this im not regretting my choice whatsoever with getting the DJI.
The audio quality from bluetooth will be determined by what device you're using as a microphone. Some earbuds have better mics than others. Also important to note that this feature is most useful for situations where your GoPro is out of range of your voice (outside of a car, front/back of a boat, ATV, etc...) where you can capture audio from the person as well as the environment.

Pretty much, however the Hero 11 black was/is an excellent camera and some of the new features on the 12 Black might be worth the extra $50 to some people... For example the Bluetooth Audio thing is amazing!

It's so odd GoPro doesn't send a retail version so everyone can see how it's really packed, the fact you can't state your own thoughts and opinions is even odder consider they're already taking pre-orders, and even odder still is that such a massive company launched their main product using only two CZcamsrs and a handful of online shop reviews. I'm lucky and unlucky due to the fact that I bought mine a few days ago in a shop due to human error, the unlucky part is I can't activate it till the 13th, mind you that won't stop me making videos on it 😂
finally they add the screw mount. GoPro and their finger mounts requiring you to disconnect everything when using a cage or Mod from them was just baffling. First thing I did was replace them with my own or after market ones. nice to see they finally added it after all these years.
Finally, there's an external Bluetooth mic support which is perfect for motovlogs. No need to install media mod and it's a lot safer during rainy season.
For sure, this is a really nice option for motovlogs. It's pretty neat that the camera still records from the internal mics too so you can mix your audio in post to decide if you want ambient sound or sound from your BT mic.
@@domenicktham People definitely recommend the Action 4 over the Hero 11 due to (low) light performance. There isn't really anything about the GoPro 12 that would change that.
There is one thing I really wish GoPro would do… remove the IR filter and transfer it to the lens in a version of the Hero Black. I know it would be difficult to have it easy to toggle in the form factor but the lens is already easily replaceable. It would open up SO many possibilities for the camera without requiring modifications.

Gopro's unlimited cloud backups at full res with horizon lock and world lock all in the cloud with two damaged cam replacements is the best deal ever to me. The extra vids I have taken due to this backup freedom is mind-blowing

Can you use more than 1 mic at once, e.g. a lav + something to capture ambient noise, and can you control the levels of both mics in post? Audio has always been the huge negative for me with GoPro. Good question. I’ll have to ask GoPro about that but I would assume it should work maybe at a limited 2.7k resolution. The hero 12 has options for both MLM 1.0 and 2.0. Assuming the Hero 11 would need a firmware update.
I wonder how honest the reviews will be on YT. When I got my H9 not one of the bugs were mentioned in any of the high profile channels. It’s was only once real people got them that these came to light.

As with any camera it comes down to your lighting and how interesting the scene is. My test footage isn't super exciting unfortunately as I've only had the camera for a couple of weeks. I'll have more follow up content soon.
Log and that quarter/20 mount are the most interesting to me. Maybe the new stabilizer but it’s kind of hard to tell. Odd that GP doesn’t want anyone to compare video directly at this point. Come on GP. 🤷🏻♂️
How did you use it? Trying to turn it on just has it stuck at the Quick connect. Even connecting it to the Quick app just has the camera resetting over and over to the new camera setup. Total fail so far on owning one.
Sounds like you got yours too early. The Hero 12 is still under pre order. Mine was sent by GoPro pre-release for test purposes and I’ve been using a beta app on my phone to make it work. Wait a few days and your Quik app will update which will allow it to be activated.
What he means to say is that there’s an embargo currently he’s not allowed to review the camera or even compare it to other cameras before pre-order is over and the camera is actually available in stores. Once people have pre-ordered or purchased then they’re allowed this Friday to release comparison videos and full review videos. It kind of goes to show you that GoPro doesn’t have a whole lot of faith in the GoPro 12 being chosen over competitors.
These types of embargoes are pretty common in the "consumer electronic space". I do agree that the timing of this one is kind of strange but not unheard of. I think viewers are usually not aware of the embargo stuff that goes on behind the scenes and a lot of times CZcamsrs don't even mention it. In this case, I felt transparency was important. Wow great video! One thing I’ve been wondering has been vertical video. Yes I know we can use the vertical video setting to take advantage of the taller sensor… but wouldn’t mounting the camera vertically still be better to get a better image/use of the sensors usable space? I’m concerned I won’t be able to shoot 5.3k 60/30 in the vertical mode.. so why even use it.
Yup that’s correct. The vertical video is capped at 4k and only uses roughly half of the sensor. But… it’s convenient particularly if you’re focused on making instagram or TikTok content. I think the best is just to shoot 8:7 5.3k and crop what you want. Having options are nice though!

I usually film in 16:9 in wide or linear mode just to reduce the work in post and I feel like the quality is slightly better since it’s still 5.3k but not cropped into.
I cover that at the end of the full review I posted this morning. Long story short I think the 12 is a no brainer for $50 more... If you were on a budget I feel like the Hero 10 is the best bang for the buck at $249. Keep in mind these get even cheaper if you're a GoPro subscriber with the Hero 12 coming in at just $299 with the subscription discount.
Please make a review and upload HDR video separately from SDR, there is no difference with GP11 in SDR and it's not entirely clear what type of HDR, in Rec709 or rec2020, where CZcams sees the video as HDR, for example 2160p30HDR

Does filming in the 8:7 aspect ratio offer more stabilization options than it did in the hero 11? I tried mountain biking on my 11 using the 8:7 aspect ratio but it didn’t offer all of the stabilization options and the footage was unusable.
Those are two very different cameras. The ZVE10 is a mirrorless large sensor camera that's great for hand held, or tripod shots. It will produce much nicer images than a GoPro because it's got a huge sensor comparatively. The GoPro is an action camera with a smaller sensor but also has incredible stabilization and can be used in harsh environments that would break the Sony. Two very different tools for very different jobs! Owning both a "main camera" and an "action camera" is really the way to go.
Nope, GoPro found that less than 1% of their users actually used the GPS feature so it was removed to add other features in this version. You'll hear more about this in my review coming in a couple of days.
Will they let me see the Audio levels on the display now? I love that they support Bluetooth mics but I will not be able use that if the camera has no way for me to see the audio levels.
@@ChaseTheSummit Thanks. I never use a mic if I have no idea if it is even recording during a paid shoot. I wish @GoPro could realize how audio monitoring is a basic pro function. I will keep using my Tascam and syncing via Waveform I guess. I know the media mod enables audio monitoring but that is not an off camera mic solution.
So it's pretty much a Hero 11 with a new software update. Don't tell me that there are any more differences. It's incremental changes that the eye cannot tell apart from the 11.
I just tried my 1st shooting & kind of dissapointed with the overheat issue. I just shoot for less than 10 mins & my gopro are so hot & auto shut down.
@@jasonlimbh79 auto boost on? What was the ambient temperature in the room? The camera will overheat when sitting still in a hot room but if there’s even the slightest breeze or it’s moving on a bike or in your hand it goes a long way and won’t overheat.
@@ChaseTheSummit There is no manual. The only thing inside the box was a simple card telling me, I shall turn it on. I think there's no battery inside, but I never had a GoPro before, so I don't know how to open such a thing and how to put a battery inside. Without a manual or basic instructions I think it's best I send it back. It seems this is a camera for experienced users only - otherwise they would include at least a basic manual.
Does anyone know if Go Pro Black 12 provides same stablisation at Night light as well ? As in the day time. Please let me know. I've had issues with stabilisation and shaky video during night time with my GoPro Black 11.
There’s limitations with digital stabilization in the dark with all of these cameras (not just GoPro). Stay tuned for some side by side comparisons soon.
at night the only combination that works for me is hero 6 or 7 black with karma grip, all oudated but do the job. so you still need a gimball for low light footage stabilization.
Next time that GoPro don't let reviewers say their opinions in the launch day videos. You need all to reject reviewing that camera. And inform all us what the brand tried to do.

I think I will go DJI this year. The extra sensors size outweighs the rest a lot for underwater filming.

Lens Mod isn't included it's an additional $99 by itself or $79 if you bundle it with the camera at the time of purchase for $479.

If you were on a budget I feel like the Hero 10 is the best bang for the buck at $249. Keep in mind these get even cheaper if you're a GoPro subscriber with the Hero 12 coming in at just $299 with the subscription discount.

Please make a review and upload HDR video separately from SDR, there is no difference with GP11 in SDR and it's not entirely clear what type of HDR, in Rec709 or rec2020, where CZcams sees the video as HDR, for example 2160p30HDR

Yes it can. They record split to the left and right tracks so you can use both in your video editor.

It’s possible. I don’t have that particular device so I can’t confirm!

Does filming in the 8:7 aspect ratio offer more stabilization options than it did in the hero 11? I tried mountain biking on my 11 using the 8:7 aspect ratio but it didn’t offer all of the stabilization options and the footage was unusable.

Is go pro really good in short film making? Or should I go for zv e10? Im on budget
Those are two very different cameras. The ZVE10 is a mirrorless large sensor camera that's great for hand held, or tripod shots. It will produce much nicer images than a GoPro because it's got a huge sensor comparatively. The GoPro is an action camera with a smaller sensor but also has incredible stabilization and can be used in harsh environments that would break the Sony. Two very different tools for very different jobs! Owning both a "main camera" and an "action camera" is really the way to go.

Nope, GoPro found that less than 1% of their users actually used the GPS feature so it was removed to add other features in this version. You'll hear more about this in my review coming in a couple of days.

Will they let me see the Audio levels on the display now? I love that they support Bluetooth mics but I will not be able use that if the camera has no way for me to see the audio levels.

I never use a mic if I have no idea if it is even recording during a paid shoot. I wish @GoPro could realize how audio monitoring is a basic pro function.
I will keep using my Tascam and syncing via Waveform I guess.
I know the media mod enables audio monitoring but that is not an off camera mic solution.
Can you normal videos eg like to make films or show and to get the fish eye lens off
There’s a “linear” mode that has no fish eye effect but it’s not as wide as the standard wide angle.

Not totally sure but I THINK so. It also supports Max Lens Mod 1.0.
So it's pretty much a Hero 11 with a new software update. Don't tell me that there are any more differences. It's incremental changes that the eye cannot tell apart from the 11.

If they’re Bluetooth enabled it’s likely they’ll work. Unfortunately I don’t think GoPro has published a compatibility list yet.

I just tried my 1st shooting & kind of dissapointed with the overheat issue. I just shoot for less than 10 mins & my gopro are so hot & auto shut down.

@@jasonlimbh79 auto boost on? What was the ambient temperature in the room? The camera will overheat when sitting still in a hot room but if there’s even the slightest breeze or it’s moving on a bike or in your hand it goes a long way and won’t overheat.

@@ChaseTheSummit There is no manual. The only thing inside the box was a simple card telling me, I shall turn it on. I think there's no battery inside, but I never had a GoPro before, so I don't know how to open such a thing and how to put a battery inside. Without a manual or basic instructions I think it's best I send it back. It seems this is a camera for experienced users only - otherwise they would include at least a basic manual.
Does anyone know if Go Pro Black 12 provides same stablisation at Night light as well ? As in the day time.

I've had issues with stabilisation and shaky video during night time with my GoPro Black 11.
There’s limitations with digital stabilization in the dark with all of these cameras (not just GoPro). Stay tuned for some side by side comparisons soon.

at night the only combination that works for me is hero 6 or 7 black with karma grip, all oudated but do the job. so you still need a gimball for low light footage stabilization.
Next time that GoPro don't let reviewers say their opinions in the launch day videos. You need all to reject reviewing that camera. And inform all us what the brand tried to do.
