Beijinos e abraços,
Carissa, Iwan, Frankie & Albi
Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.
It is so therapeutic for us viewers to see the beautiful images of flowers, birds and furry animals, and hearing the lovely peaceful birdsong. I am also mesmerised watching the strimming!! Sorry to hear that Carissa has been unwell, but hope she is feeling better now.
Outstanding cinematography combined with perfect music 👌
The calmness you provide is such a tonic I really hope that you are living that as much as we are watching it. Working in heat is tough.
Normal day on a farm ,with non stop work to be done 🙈but I must say it’s far more rewarding then the rat race in the city ❤️
The animals and both of you love Diego .He is the sweetest and affectionate part of that family .He’s always ready to play or help someone feel better
It is amazing how fast everything grows. You have hardly finished and you have to go again. Love everything on your channel
So sorry you had flue can be very debilitating. So thanks for still showing your lovely flowers and everything.
It must be awefull being sick in that heat. Hope you're better soon.
Wow, Iwan got a lot of strimming done. It looks so nice. I love your poppys. All the fur babies are so content. Diogo shows his love by being close. I love them all equally.❤
My Saturday morning of calm and beauty thank you
One of the most tedious, but necessary jobs at my house is the weed eating (strimmer). It's the only time I grumble about any rain we're getting.
I love potato and leek soup. Its so homey.
If he's your dad's cousin, I think that makes him your second cousin. After that, they just become shirt tail relatives.
Blessed Be!
Hope you are both feeling well. Sorry to hear poor Carissa had the flu.❤❤❤
Sorry Carissa got the flu 😔 Hope she's doing well now. I love Diogo's ears - and Frankie is such a sweetheart ❣️ Albi and Joaho are adorable. Thank you for the peaceful birdsong and cricket sounds. So calm. I love watching your videos. Soup looked delicious and cut veggies are beautiful!❤🫶❣️
I've seen only 20 seconds of today's video, and already I feel my blood pressure fall into a lovely calm zone.
Knowing the pain of so much striming, will a ride-on lawnmower company hurry up and sponsor you please.
Your shots of the animals and flora on your lovely property captures such a peaceful energy.
And I love that you rescued a Podenco. Diogo is such a delight. Im actually looking into adopting one from Spain.
Haha I know right! One day hopefully! So glad you’re thinking of getting a Podenco! Highly recommend the small Portuguese variety! Plenty to be found in this area, we’d happily help!
Have you drawn Diogo yet? He is such a character and adds so many smiles to watching, all of them do and it's so entertaining watching what they get up to. They all try to be involved in your daily routine lol.❤
I have but probably need a new one 😅
Love the purple flowers you showed. I enjoy your filming.
The area is always looking so full of wildlife and mother nature doing her best to reclaim every millimetre.
Hi, Carissa and Iwan. All your videos are aesthetically pleasing as was this one. I love to see all the animals and plants. I hope that you feel better soon, Carissa🙏
See you next week❤️❤️
We share our strawberries with the birds, the chipmunks and the slugs.
Sorry to hear you’ve had the flu, always seems twice as bad when you get it and there’s nice weather! Love the laid back feeling you both bring us with your video style, nothing rushed or hurried just a gentle feel to the whole thing.❤
If you cut the leeks off above the root they will grow again....alternatively replant the roots that you cut off
The land looks beautiful and Diogo is so precious! ❤So his Sausage, and all others, but Diogo's boundless energy and happiness is so dear, it brings tears to my eyes.😅 To think he would have been left to die without you saving him!😮😢 What a blessing he has been, and all other furry babies who are so happy with you. Keep up the wonderful work!❤
He’s a very good boy! 🐕 I think we’re as lucky as him to be honest.. he’s brought a lot to the table!
@@FrankieOffGrid He sure has! What a ray of sunshine. Lucky you, lucky Diogo, the happiest Portuguese dog there is!
YES!!!! Oh how I look forward to your videos!! Now to watch all my babies (including you two ) enjoying living on your property!!
Watched this through again straight away, so relaxing, calming, could even feel the relief of the heat from the water spray even though I am sitting in a cool Melbourne, Australia evening.
Those rings are beautiful, would make a nice drawing, mind you they are line drawing within themselves. Love It!
Beautiful video:) The shots of the poppies were stunning & the soup looked delicious too. Feel better Carissa! Love!
Beautiful piano music, lovely garden areas, and your animals are quite entertaining! Sorry to hear of Carissa not feeling well, the strawberry cake sounds intriguing~! ❤🦋🌺🌻
Hi you two 😊 I find it amusing that it’s called stimming over in your place. In Australia, we call it whipper snipping in the country. I love your gentle natures. All the best for the summer! 💜
Here in New England US it's called weed whacking, while a whipper snapper was a cheeky, know-it-all youngster in my grandmother's day.
I love how our "common language" is really quite dissimilar.
Beautiful video, as always. Loved the framing of Diogo watching the magpie.
Hope you get well soon, Carissa! It takes awhile to regain your full strength after a bout of the flu, so go easy on yourself for a little while…Your soup looks delish! As always your vlog brings us great natural beauty and the sounds of birds and crickets. Beautifully photographed and edited! You guys are my Saturday highlight and secret addiction.Take care. ❤️🇨🇦
RITA!!!!❤️🥂xx
@@jimmyconnolly3461 Hey there Jimmy! Long time no see! ❤️😘
Indeed. 😂😂 this channel is a great find though. 😉👍❤️🥂
such a shame to see all the beautiful wildflowers go, but it does look nice all tidy and neat 😁
I have been watching you since the beginning of your journey, and I am amazed how your lace is looking so beautiful. Keep it up, and good luck, take care
Hope you feel better soon. What a lovely, peaceful video. Your soup looked so tasty. Take care of yourselves.❤
It really is astonishing how much difference there is in the climate your side of the mountains! I first came across your channel last winter whilst getting bored sitting in my kitchen waiting for the rain to stop, and it was paradoxically strangely calming watching other people getting outside and doing the kind of work I should have been doing 🙃. Here on the northern slopes of the Serra do Açor we haven't hit 30℃ yet, let alone 38℃, and we've got the rain back on Monday. Everything is still fully green and insanely lush and jungley. No cicadas chirping yet. Haven't even heard the cuckoo and that's usually here by Easter. All the areas I strimmed the last good spell we had are back above knee height already and I haven't even got the summer veg in the garden yet ... so yeah, still watching 🤣 ... Hope you're feeling better now Carissa.
Get well soon Carissa. Lots of ginger. Thanks for all the great videos.
Your land looks beautiful - a lot of work but so worth it in the long run.
the land you have is so beautiful you are both blessed
Hello, love your videos! You guys really need a ride on mower or a small tractor with a mower deck...all the birds are so beautiful. Thank you for the videos ❤
Cheers from Australia
I'm not sure if I already told you, but if you pinch the flowers off ass they wilt the petunias flower more, and the plants last much longer. It makes a huge difference.❤
Yes you did! Thanks! They’re lovely flowers, we buy them every year.
Loved Diogo with the Magpie ❤
I hope you feel better soon. The video was so relaxing to watch, and I love seeing all the nature around you. It's gorgeous!
Your videos are so tranquil and calming for me! Thank you!
Hope you feel better soon.
Get well wishes Carissa❤ Always a lovely calming video, the leak potatoes soup looked amazing!❤ Lots of strimming Ewan! Beautiful video photography, thank you for sharing.
Loving these camera angles❤
Your channel is so calming. I really enjoy it. Ancestry part of it half of it is from Portugal, but I was born in Rio de Janeiro Brazil and all my family is there. I live in Florida and it’s very hot here right now.
What a lovely vlog considering you were both under par
Sorry to hear you succumbed to flu so debilitating & Iwan teeth issues are horrid I’m hoping you will both feel better soon
The flowers are stunning & fur & feathers are a delight 🐓🐈⬛🐕
Alot of work. You have done so much & learned alot.
Dad or Mums cousin is your 1st cousin once removed, Their children are your second cousins
What a garden, what a life😊 Thanks for the video
The variety in your garden is coming on really well, your reward for all of the hard work.👍
I love the purple flowers with white dots
Beautiful aren’t they? They’re starry night petunias
Oh my days, literally just switched you on and that people flower, favourite colour
I gather you've realised I meant purple lol. Hope you are feeling better Carissa
Ditto!!
Is the black cat ok? Check the hairless spot on the back it could be "ringworm" or "Tinea" and it's very contagious even for humans!
Stay safe and thanks for another beautiful and peaceful update
He’s good, it was a wound from a fight that’s taken a while for the hair to grow back. Thanks for noticing!
Great video and such lovely weather.
Another beautiful video.
Thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us! ❤
Wow, strim a ding dong!! ❤
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys, fire season already hope you all are going to be save, good work with your mowing and pruning 👍😍
Carissa - can’t imagine having flu in such hot weather - always seems like a cold weather problem. Take care and feel better soon! P.S. Try putting a tiny dah of nutmeg in your leek and potato soup. 😍🇨🇦
That strimming must feel never ending Iwan. It grows back super quick. Great stuff on the olive tree pruning. I wonder if I should follow the same theory with my apple trees? Another great vlog guys. Feel better soon Carissa. Looking forward to next week 😁
Haha it gets easier every year.. but yes it comes back in no time!
I think pruning your apples is pretty similar.. I’m not sure though so definitely do some research first 😅
Hope you feel better soon. ❤
Love those orange flowers, they are so beautiful
They’re California poppies, they’re very easy to grow.
That was a lovely video!! Everything is looking lovely!! Cheers!!
I like your filming's. I liked it from the start. I've seen all your films. I'm Norwegian and South of France. I'm trying to bye 3 hectare of land south west of Toulouse. For planting olives trees.
Oh dear.. Get well Carissa❤️❤️
Hope you feel better soon,Iwan you need a ride on mower x
One day! Thank you! ☺️
Found your channel by chance and immediately fell in love with your videos, your lifestyle and that concrete shelf in the kitchen, oh lm into that shelf so much!
portugal has it's nature's charm but spring is out... let's see what summer brings us! 🤠😎
I was struggling with you to get the leeks out 😂 A soup 🍜 is the best what you can eat when you have flu. I'm going to make one as well now. Get better soon.
These videos are my go-to when I get home and just want to relax. You feel like family!
So glad you like them!
Obviously an essential job to carry out but still sad to see all those lovely meadow flowers being cut down
Isn’t it? I hate doing it but in a month it’ll all be dry as a bone and far too hot to be strimming 😅
Love your videos. Hope others will watch Portugal from Scratch. Kristy is full of ideas and does a nice job on them.
feel better soon Carissa, get plenty of vitamin C
your trees are looking great & loving the flowers & birds too
thanx for sharing
Welcome back. Hope you had a lovely break. Missed your post last week 💚 your garden is so beautiful. Everything is growing lovely. Always strimming. A sit-down mower would be ideal 👌 but very costly to buy. Thanx for the post. Look forward to the nxt one 😀
I'm abit late, still.. glad to get my week's calming session in. Hope you're feeling better Carrissa.. love from Derby UK 🇬🇧 ❤️ 💙
Hopefully it doesn't last as long as mine did, almost a month, and I'm still not properly over it. Keep out of the nightly temperature drop if possible and hope you feeling better as soon as possible.❤
Oosh a month is a long time! I hope so too! Haha
Oh, I missed you guys. I was watching you guys last night. You caught Covid. Oh, and Christmas 2022. The mince pies. 😉😂 Loved them both. So happy to have you back. I’m away to get myself a cuppa. ❤️🥂
Thanks I enjoy the video. Hope you feel better . See you next time. Stay safe
Get well soon sweetie, loved the video x ❤❤
The period to prune the olive trees is quickly after you harvest the olives. We prune the olive trees to be like an umbrella. I don't know who told you to prune them when they have flowers. I am from Greece Crete, my olive is 0,3 degrees and I sell it 14€ per liter. To work with olive trees is a very big and hard lesson to learn for every season of the year.
It’s actually the best time to prune them, they growth spurt is much quicker and there’s much less rain so less risky.
A lot of people do prune while harvesting around here too.. but you leave the tree with a much higher chance of catching diseases. They’re incredibly hardy trees so I think you could probably prune them any time of year.
You can probably prune them at any time but harvest will vary greatly. I am sure though that you have done your research and consulted locals, every place has its own varieties which need different care. Here in Greece, if you ask older people (who have years worth of olive-pruning-wisdom), they will tell you to prune up until the tree has started flowering. 🌿😊
One of your best videos EVER!!! Such a gorgeous peace-filled time with you both!
Thank you so much!!
Love It!
And animals
Thank you and feel better!
Cheezy rice!! They should build boeings out of those indestructible leeks!!
Hope you are feeling better, Carissa.
Beautiful Spring...... get well Charissa, 👍👍😁😁
Hope you’re feeling better now. Wonderful video, as always 😊💐
hi, watching right now from South Africa.
That you & your bird are english and extremely fair skinned. Might I suggest a bush hat unless you feel that either grape like skin or cancer are your friends.
Really enjoy your show.
Welsh but yes to the hat!
i do genealogy makes nickki your 2nd cousin, if its your dads first cousin. get well soon carissa. xxxx
Ooh sounds great!
Great vid, have a good week😊
Another calming episode ❤
Beautiful calming video. ❤ xx
Peaceful, ta very much!
Hope you have recovered from the flu and are feeling better 🤞
I love this! Just found your channel!
Hope you are feeling better!
Your place looks sooo therapeutic, sorry you got flu ( had it twice hopefully never again ) love the vids as always 😊👍
Have you guys thought of ever getting a few livestock animals to eat the grass and help maintain the property?
We had a very small think about it 😅 I think one day maybe a couple of sheep or a donkey. Certainly no goats or pigs!
Hi, this is not a criticism by any means. But a lot of CZcamsrs seem to go to Portugal for an easier life, but you all seem to work so hard on your homesteads.
Thanks for sharing your life with us who love watching
ATB. Take care and stay safe.
We certainly didn’t move here for an easy life, just a different one. I don’t think anybody really gets a farm and expects it to be easy.. must be a shock to them i😅
Hope the flu didn't last too long, relaxing video as usual, well done!
Get better Carissa, ❤from Australa 🇦🇺
So sorry you were unwell. Look forward to your blog every week. So calming and peaceful
