Brian Wilson is a musical genius...simple fact
David Lee Roth sang this song in the 1980's after he left Van Halen. It was pretty good.
Sloop John B from The Beach Boys is not mentioned much. I think it’s one of their best!
It's my favorite of theirs. It just goes down smooth.
I agree, Sloop is a belter 👍🙂
Hell yeah, good choice!
Pet Sounds, their best album.
Absolutely 💯
Yes Sir. I love in my room too
Love the Beach Boys, brings back great memories of my early teen years. "I Get Around" was always my favorite.
"Good Vibrations" is always included on All-Time Greatest Rock Song lists, and is one of the first rock songs that made use of an electro-theremin, which gives the song it's unusual, "vibe-y" sound. Plus, I agree with HollyVee, below, that "Sloop John B" is worth your consideration, too, as well as "Don't Worry Baby".
this is when Brian Wilson started using the Wrecking Crew for the music and he and the Boys sang the voices. and when they start the background vocals on the second verse, chef's kiss. especially the OO-WAHs. so badass. there are some other great songs on this album like "Dance Dance Dance"
The beach boys songs are always more complicated than people think.
You get caught up in the ear candy vocals, and sleep on the intricate musicianship.
Um:

AMEN!
The pure genius of Brian Wilson. He has the ability to "hear" the finished product in his head, which makes him a truly great arranger/producer.
In terms of recording quality and innovation, the 60’s was dominated by a competition between Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney. Brian Wilson listened to Rubber Soul and created Pet Sounds. McCartney heard Pet Sounds and made Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
:-)
Brian Wilson is a musical genius!! His arrangements and song writing are on the next level! The Beatles collaborated with each other for their music.Brain Wilson did it all arrangements and the writing.
Brian was amazing ,but wrote no lyrics
Mike Love is singing lead, Brian is the high pitched voice in the back on this one. Mike's vocals are double tracked for a fuller sound.
Aww, this made me a bit homesick. I may live in Arizona now, thanks to a company transfer, but I am a California girl. I miss the Pacific. The coastline from Santa Barbara to Monterey is so beautiful and Carmel is my favorite place in the world. I always wanted to go sailing along that coastline. I do like the intro on this song. It's actually really good.
Me too!!! I grew up in Santa Maria, Ca, an Hour North of Santa Barbara.I always spent my time in Pismo Beach, Surfing and Listening to The Beach Boys.✌
Been there a few times. Great place. 👍@@tinapatterson5022
About half the "Wrecking Crew", (the band actually playing most of the music for most of their songs on the records) a group of studio musicians in LA, that recorded a lot of hits for a lot of people.
Brian Wilson is a genius and most likely on the spectrum. He could hear ALL the music, vocals, backing vocals and harmonies in his head. His dad was their manager and a real bastard, he hit Brian in the head at one point which left him deaf in that ear. Later his dad sold the rights to their songs behind their backs. Later in life Brian was basically held hostage in his home by his 'psychiatrist' who had him on crazy amounts of drugs and was ripping him off. There's a great movie about it starring John Cusack. God only knows, In my room, good vibrations, wouldn't it be nice, Kokomo...so, so many great songs.
Glad you did Beach Boys! Always loved them. “Sloop John B” “Good Vibrations” “Wouldn’t It be nice” “God only knows” “Kokomo” sooooooo many great songs .. they have many more! ❤
Jan & Dean were another great " surfer band " worth a listen IMO
The B-side was "Let HimRun Wild" -- really great ballad.
Brian Wilson is a FREAKING GENIUS!!!!
Well, now is the perfect time to play “All Summer Long” and “Do It Again”✌🏻🤟🏻🤘🏻
Paul Mc Cartney said that his favorite song was "God Only Knows". A perfect song. How many songs would start out with " I may not always love you....:..Brian was a genius!
The Beach Boys have created one of the best albums in pop music: Pet Sounds - it contains one of my all time favorites: God only knows. Give it a try, guys.
By the way: David Lee Roth recorded a fairly successful cover of California Girls in the 1980s after leaving Van Halen.
Only time I attended a Beach Boys concert was at the Ventura County Fair, down on the beach, ocean crashing in the background. We danced and rocked and sang long to all their hits. Never had more fun at a concert.
God Only Knows is a great Beach Boys song. David Lee Roth did a remake with a fun video for California Girls Back in the 80's - you should check that out!
Imagine living in the northeastern United States in February and listening to this California sound on your while scraping snow and ice from your car. This got many guys through the cold winters. Thanks for the reaction, also, read about Dennis Wilson’s interaction with Charlie Manson. It’s interesting to say the least. RIP Dennis. RIP Carl.
Paul McCartney deemed God Only Knows by the Brach Bpys the mist perfect song ever recorded. Quite the compliment by Sir Paul with all he penned as a Beatle. Brian Wilson is ctedited as the genius behind the music of the Beach Boys. Pet Sounds is considered an absolute masterpiece and critically acclaimed album which includes Good Vibratuons as well as God Only knows. Worth a listen.
Aww this always makes this California girl smile . ❤
Next from them should be Don’t Worry Baby. My all-time favorite BB song! There are also two other good songs from this album that did not become hits but are worth listening to: Let Him Run Wild and Girl Don’t Tell Me.
I always liked Warmth of the Sun, Do It Again, 409, Good Vibrations, Kokomo, Don’t Worry Baby, Catch A Wave, etc.
Brian Wilson, Al Jardine still perform. Mike Love /Bruce Johnston still tour nonstop at The Beach Boys. Love in his 80s. (Dennis Wilson; Carl Wilson RIP)
You might like the Beach Boys songs "Fun, Fun, Fun" and "Good Vibrations" and "God Only Knows" and "Sloop John B." ... Jan and Dean were contemporaries of the Beach Boys and had a similar sound. They had hits with "Surf City" and "Little Old Lady From Pasadena."
Beach Boys are my favorite older group. So so good 👍 listen to more!
The smiles on your faces says it all. Just fun, great music. I grew up in So Cal and was 10 years old when this came out. Highly influenced my youth...beach, cool cars, rock n roll. It was all fun.❤😊
David Lee Roth does a good remake. If you react to it, make sure to do the video. It kind of adds to the whole thing 😉
Reminds me of beach fun. I can always start off my summer with them.
I was 14 years old and the Beach Boys was my first concert way back in 1968. The beginning of a life long love of concerts and live performances. This one and Don't Worry Baby are my favourite BB songs.
You want what I think is the ultimate beach song? The vastly underrated and not often heard Beautiful Girls off Van Halen's equally grossly underappreciated second album. It is a perfect example of VH's cheeky tone. Just a fun song with a great guitar intro by Eddie.
Love the Beach Boys! Ryan I think you would like Kokomo, Good Vibrations or In my Room also worth a listen.
Their album Pet Sounds is what pushed the Beatles into doing Sgt Pepper's.
Brian Wilson heard things that nobody else did.............until he created it for us all. Brilliant, tortured, and utter genius. LOVE the Beach Boys!!!!
The perfect late night windows down summer car cruise song .😎
LOVE THEM!!! The chorus: just SOUNDS like the cadence that would go with a bikini-clad girl on the beach, to me!! WHAT a GREAT STRUTTIN' TEMPO!!! They have SO MANY GREAT TUNES!! Thanks for doing this one!! HUGS, YOU-GUY!! Hope ya'll are having a GREAT TIME!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Beach Boys are a classic for sure. You guys want some more vacation/ beach sounds, check out some Pablo Cruise! A Place in the Sun, Don’t Want to Live Without You, Love Will Find A Way, Whatcha Gonna Do, World’s Away, Cool Love, etc.
You’ve probably heard parts of it, but I’d like to see your reaction to Good Vibrations.
Best 2 Yacht Rock songs the 502 never heard.
1) Ozark Mountain Daredevils- Jackie Blue
2) Dobie Gray- Drift Away
Chance of all 3 not sayimg
" Fire" & " Playlist" 0 %
Christopher Cross Sailing
@kramerbassplayer
1) Sailing is the Status Quo everyone suggests while very few have touched these 2 and guaranteed 502 would love both.
2) These came out before Saling and
have senority
3) I personally way way prefer these 2 over sailing. For me not even close.
I didn't give The Beach Boys much credit as a kid and teen in the 60's and 70's. Liked some of their songs, but that was it -- liked em. Considered them a 2nd tier band. But that was my immaturity speaking. I "hear" their songs now, and have for a while. Their album "Pet Sounds" is considered a classic now. Even iconic. I can understand why it is considered to be such a good album -- now. No way to stay in a bad mood when one of their songs comes on.
Hey -- did I miss the 40 K subscribers celebration?
I grew up listening to their music because The Beach Boys are one of my 75 year old Daddy's favorites. He used to always talk to me about the harmonies, the musical arrangements, and to appreciate the sound. Sheer talent. Some say musical genius. The best part is, the songs always make me feel good, and they are SO easy on the ears.
I was in the same boat when I was growing up. Pet Sounds really is perhaps the most amazing and unique pop album of all time. it's a timeless album and I never get tired of hearing it from beginning to the end.
Hal Blaine's drumming was great on this song as well as many other Beach Boys classics! Dennis played on some of their earlier songs.
Brian Wilson (leader) is still alive and so is Mike Love, a couple more are still around as well. I think in 2012, only 1 member had died.
Fun fun fun by beach boys
If you want a really good example of their excellent harmonies, try Warmth Of The Sun. Also, read the history of the song, and you'll realize why its different from other BB's music. Great reaction, guys!
This track featured future Beach Boy Bruce Johnston on back up vocals. Although he toured and recorded with the he wasn't an official member until 1967.
The most romantic and beloved booty call in the history of music:
I'd Really Love To See You Tonight- England Dan and John Ford Coley ❤❤❤
So true! Another great one by England Dan (Seals) & John Ford Coley is Love Is The Answer, although they never released a bad song!
The album cover on your reaction, I still have mine on vinyl. Seen them in concert twice! Thanks for the walk down memory lane! Love from Texas 🤠🤠🤠
The song was often their opening song in concert. That intro was perfect to get the crowd going
This is just the tip of the iceberg of the Beach Boys.
The Beatles said that the album Pet Sounds had a major influence on their music.
I hope that you delve deeper into their catalog. "In My Room" is in my Top Ten favorite songs. I also love some of the stuff they did in the '70's, like "Sail on Sailor."
California Girl here, LA born and raised. 70s was the best time to grow up in Southern California, we had the beach, mountains, and desert. Fun times!❤
Me too! Hermosa, Redondo, Huntington Beach….surfer boyfriend Randy…getting my tan on…fun times!
Great musical band, Dennis Wilson drowned in 1983 and Carl Wilson died of lung cancer in 1998.. The rest of the band members are still touring. They will be playing at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland on November 7th.
Definitely hit- Sail on Sailor great BB song , my favorite
Such a great classic by the Beach Boys. How do you not sway to this one? Thanks so much guys for reacting to this tune!🍂
Rubber Soul, from Beatles, inspired Brian Wilson of beach boys to make PET SOUNDS,....The Beatles, , across the Pond heard Pet Sounds, and said WTF?..John and Paul were blown away.....6 months later, SGT PEPPERS was released...and John and Paul said it was Brian Wilson that pushed them to get into studio, and top Pet Sounds....dive into Pet Sounds men...
P.S..Brian Wilson was deaf, in one ear, from childhood accident. ❤🎉😂
Beach Boys have a zillion great songs and hits. A bit unknown are “Sail On, Sailor” and “ Funky Pretty”. Not like we’re used from by them, but I love them.
Backed by the amazing Wrecking Crew, including Hal Blaine on the drums, and the fabulous Carol Kaye on the electric bass.
My parents to high school withe the Wilson Brothers, I have a lot of inside stories! Hawthorne High School home of the Cougars.
Best Beach Boys song is "Don't Worry Baby" and "God Only Knows". Still can't believe we are losing Ty.
So many but my fave is Cottonfields.
Makes me emotional.
Originally the author was listed as just Brian Wilson but years later Mike Love sued to get his name on the credits for writing some of the lyrics
I suggest “ Sloop John B “ by the Beach Boys
Wife Speaking.."We should just leave the building, if we don't know who the Beach Boys are" ..Cute!!! I grew up with the David Lee Roth cover.,. it was good, but imo , nothing compares to this original..!! ❤ Great Reaction!!
Simply originals of their time and one of a kind... so musical legends. I grew up with these "kids" in the 60s. Their story is exciting and fun, but truly sad with addictions, mental illness, and deaths. Rabbit hole!! 🐰
Jodi/Child of the 60s ✌
Did you know The Beatles track "Back in the USSR" is a slap down to this Beach Boys track.
Brian Wilson a true musical genius that will never be equaled
Check out David Lee Roths
(Van Halen-then his own band) did cover of this song....
it was a huge MTV video hit !
Good Vibrartions ....
❤❤❤ Hey gentlemen I'm a California girl. San Jose California. This California girl needs more Al Stewart songs. Midnight Rocks, Midas Shadow, Broadway Hotel, Timeless Skies, Ringing of Bells, End Of The Day by Al Stewart, Also Juicy Fruit by Mtume, Rise 7 min version by Herb Alpert, Seed Of Memory, To Be Treated Rite by Terry Reid. You guys will love those songs especially Juicy Fruit 5min version by Mtume.
This Washington boy agrees with this California girl on more Al Stewart. Just saw him last weekend, and would love to hear you do more.
@@sourisvoleur4854 that's awesome I love Al Stewart. At the end of a long day of work at Safeway I will hear his songs, like Timeless Skies, Midas Shadow, Broadway Hotel and End Of The Day by Al Stewart beautiful music. Your so lucky to see him.
Agree. It's been a minute and a half since an Al Stewart song .
@@yvonnejaime1266 I would like to hear "Night Train to Munich." If you're not familiar, check it out. It's like a movie.
@@sourisvoleur4854 oohh I will now! 🥰
I knew this song in 80's by David Lee Roth version and i remember specialy the very sexy video clip😆🔥
Try "Let Him Run Wild" and "Darlin"......
Such a great sound. For me, "Surf's Up" is their greatest song. Hope you react to that one day!
LPs like Pet Sounds and songs like Good Vibrations caused The Beatles to totally rethink what they were doing at the time. Their response was Sgt. Pepper. And of course, Back in the USSR, is a total tribute to the Beach Boys sound.
And chuck berry
Only time will tell, Asia.
Bury me in willows 🔥
Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes - "On The Beach" 🤘🤘
Greetings from Lancaster! You guys from Philly? Great observations about this iconic band. I got to see them in concert back in the 1970s and it was a fun show. You might have thought you heard this before thanks to David Lee Roth's cover of it.
Now do the david lee roth version...I dig girls!
And that video is pure 80’s.
@@laurakali6522 yes
A short song, only 2-47 minutes, but cool, I listened to it many times, for some reason I always confused the songs California Dreamin with California Girls, probably because they have similar names. I like it because The Beach Boys are fun.
Now check out David Lee Roth's cover of California Girls. Lots of fun!
Wow, how can anyone never have heard this song?? At least a dozen Beach Boys songs are used and played over and over in movies and TV.
After hearing the beach boys l just had to go surfing 🏄♂️
Americas greatest band,& the American Beatles.
You must see the music video for David Lee Roth’s remake in the 80s
God Only Knows - even more sophisticated. Wouldn't Be Nice as well.
2012 album was original members (5) minus two deceased Wilson brothers
The Wrecking Crew playing the instruments are beyond compare.
Love your beach boys review
The Beach Boys harmonies are incredible. And even though the music is terrific, it hides some of the outstanding vocals. Fortunately, several songs have been released that features just the vocal track. A quick search got me acapella versions of "California Girls" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice". Here's a link czcams.com/video/FTgQbefEw1c/video.html
And one fun fact, though many of the Beach Boys songs were about surfing, only one of them was actually a surfer - Dennis Wilson, the drummer.
In regard to their later material, (1988 for instance), check out the theme to the Movie 'Cocktail' starring Tom Cruise & Elisabeth Shue. The name of the song is "Kokomo"; see if you recognize the black haired guy in the pink shirt (obviously, the '80s) playing the conga, bongos & steel drum. You guys will have to do the actual video for reference; the way it was made & the way the aforementioned guy playing drums has quite the back story. Additionally, although they had several #1 hits on Billboard Top 100, Kokomo was their last #1 and according to some, their most successful - just what I've read though. Here is the link to the actual video; hope to see you react to it one day: czcams.com/video/5Q6vDU9TaWo/video.htmlsi=6yzJsSTgs0_0dtcA
Yes... pronounced jardeen. There's no pitch correction... no digital effects... no samples... no hate lyrics... no violence... no sexual content... no digital drums. Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks are still alive. Marks & Johnston came later in the 60s. Mike & Bruce have a 'pretend' Beach Boys band that still tours. Gets good crowds at smaller venues. This has one of the iconic introductions in the history of rock. Their album 'Pet Sounds' is ranked #1 by many publications. #2 by Rolling Stone behind Marvin Gaye's 'What's Goin On.' The band usually began each concert with this song. It set the mood. It was all done with a 4-track tape recorder. The combination of instruments is astounding. Contrary to some people... Spector was never involved with the Beach Boys. The very early surfin and car hits were produced by their dad Murry. He was too controlling... and the boys fired their dad. Then Brian took over completely in the studio. He is deaf in one ear so there's a mono feel to everything. The story is that Murry took a 2-by-4 to Brian's head and ruined one ear. There was abuse. Brian believes that all of their music comes from God... sincerely. The name of the band is a little unfortunate. A guy at Capitol Records suggested it. The guys didn't like it. After the surfin and car hits... Capitol stopped promoting their music and demanded more surfin and car hits. Brian just went ahead and did his thing anyway. Thank God. Some of their very best music has never been on the radio. The albums are a treasure. Check out the Friends album. A completely different sound. Brilliant. Most casual fans have never heard their album cuts. Good analysis guys.
Hope you guys react to the revolutionary song "Good Vibrations" release in 1966 by The Beach Boys.
Guys, guys...take it from someone who had just turned 16 when this came out. Yes, The Wrecking Crew backed this. (LA studio musicians) Someone here thought the "Do-Wahs" were badass. It's actually unfortunate they got in. They were an overly-used device from the Do-Wop era from 10 years prior...but lead singer and cousin Mike Love was a Do-Wop nut, and pushed them in. My favorite anecdote about this song begins with Rolling Stone magazine. In their, "Brian Is A Genius' cover story the writer boldly states that the intro - just the intro - to California Girls was brilliant enough to qualify as a Senior Thesis at Julliard. Meanwhile, Mike Love has always been cast as the villain of the group for not "getting" Brian's later work, but California Girls plus the majority of the BBs early surf and car songs are proof that Mike had a knack for winning teenage sensibility lyrics, which played a significant role in their success.
Oooo the stereo mix.
Fun song!
Hey guys, maybe you can check out a combination of Beach Boys and Mama’s and Papa’s. There are Wilson Phillips, daughters of the other bands. Late 80’s with “Hold on” or “Release me” 🙏🏻👍
