Hi there, i assume you mean you are trying to sync the controller by connecting it with your USB cable. Try shutting down your ps3 console, and then try the steps again. If it still doesn't work, it is likely that either your cable is faulty, the controller is faulty or the USB port is faulty. Try connecting to the other USB port. You can also test if this controller is faulty by trying to sync with a controller u know that works. Then change the cable if it doesn't. Hope this helps! :)

Thank you this fix worked perfect after my controller was dropped and would start messing up after about 5 mins of play. To everyone asking about the four blinking lights when you unplug the USB cord. All you have to do is unplug it and hit the little reset button on the back of your controller then hold the PS3 button down and your controller works wirelessly again!

I picked up a DreamGEAR Phenom PS3 controller in the box but realized later it doesn't have the USB dongle with it. Can this still be used using the USB charging cable that it came with? Can I get a different dongle? Or do I just trash this?
