ABOUT ME: I was born March 06, 1992 in Nicaragua. I currently live in New Jersey, USA. I am an open-format Club and Mobile DJ. I enjoy making and sharing videos about my life as DJ and my travels around the world. I hope you find my videos entertaining. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
One of the best things about this to me is I believe it would be way more stable then relying on a laptop, as we know are prone to crashing.
I need this controller in my life.
This Dj unit is a blessing. I have been waiting for years for it to be available with this type of tech.
Roger Starchild been out over 10 years but without waveform display, you’ve been waiting 10 yrs for waveform display??
The best 4 chanel on the market /
I am really tempted by this Denon, but my biggest concern is the software support/compatibility issues here... When Denon came out with the SC5000 everyone was raving about them, but they haven't really changed the business since then. Apart from some - probably paid festival DJs - you can not really see many Denon players/mixers in night clubs.
What I can see is that a lots of people getting rid of Denon gear for the fraction of the original price... Honestly this never happens with Pioneer.
Yes, I tried other brands and any time i went away from Pioneer I was never satisfied with the 'feel' and functions of other systems... It could be only me, but there is a reason why Pioneer is there. Nice video though! :)
Valid points but Denon has opened a development shop in NZ with 20 developers assigned to the Prime gear only (can google this if you like). It is a huge investment which should start to show its benefits very soon. I think they have what it takes to rise up now that they have a huge dedicated team (unlike when the SC5000s were first released). As it stands, I think the Prime gear is much more powerful than the Nexus lineup and if this new team resolves some of the issues with the software (Engine Prime), we will see more DJs switching to Denon (unless Pioneer either steps up and/or reduces their prices). I for one am so glad I sold my overpriced NXS2 setup and bought the Prime setup (SC5000/X1800) and put money in my pocket too. I will never again pay the kind of money Pioneer charges for nothing (NXS2 had an additional hot cue button and the price was raised by about $400!!! which is robbery; my SC5000 has 8 pads and I can play 2 tracks at the same time on one deck for less than the price of the CDJs.) Just my 2 cents.
I essentially had this setup 2 years ago with a Neumark iDJ Pro and iPad with Spotify integration. I moved to a DDJ-1000 and now the trend is going back to tablets.
How was it was a tablet and spotify all that was needed or will it still need updates from a laptop? Im really interested but if i still have to go and by extras ill just get the ns7111 an follow my first mind
It worked well. You slide the iPad into the middle of the controller. It ran on Algoriddim’s Djay software. Spotify was built into it. I only upgraded because I felt like I should, I played on it in clubs for about 2 years with only 1 hiccup. My iPad had AT&T service so I could DJ in all sorts of unusual places with access to millions of songs I love my DDJ-1000, but the iDJ Pro was super easy and convenient.
Easy and convenient is exactly what im looking for im a die hard wax dj that switch to cdjs but im not a laptop guy so im still trying to fight it if i can lol appreciate your response.👍
Tbh I would buy this so I can get rid of my laptop and it seems more efficient djing on the Prime 4 instead of having a controller and laptop which creates more space when djing more issues just like if the Laptop lags, breaks etc... Definitely gonna buy one.
Just keep in mind that if the monitor breaks or for some reason it stops working that means the controllers no good too. Thats why its good to keep them seperate
@@Discvultures You can still connect your your laptop as well. maybe even denon will offer a screen replacement.
Yes please demo more of this controller.
I've been playing exclusively on Pioneer and own an XDJ RX2 (Mostly because the industry dictates it) but this unit convinced me on first glance! This is going to be my next controller!
Finally somebody who isnt blind sided by paying over the odds just to have the Pioneer logo on a dj controller! I've just ordered a prime 4 too, and cant wait!...
My first wedding is in the books. Could not have gone smoother thanks to the videos that yourself, Rick Web and Jay Book put out. Thanks for time you put into your videos. Much Love
Whatsup Barr...got mine a few weeks ago and definitely the future of dj'ing with the stans alone units coming into play.
I know Pioneer is the staple of choice for dj's cause of the money behind the product and standard in the club industry.
After working with the ease of this unit and the leaps DENON DJ has come as the LISTEN to the dj's advice and it shows. Amazing unit and easily to use both systems such as Serato amd Engine Prime.
Can wait to leave my MacBook Pro at home!
That screen is beautiful. Im surprised you didn't break any of the front knobs with the way you were banging it around.
My thoughts four years hence, Denon made a classic. The Prime 4+ is like the Technics 1210 to the original 4 being the 1200.... Looking f
forward to seeing what they'll come up with next
Very good new machine. With exland sound. .I think all. Dj need this
I hope Pioneer DJ comes out with an updated controller to match this. I like it a lot but like you said I want large platers like the DDJ 1000.
BigBlock Entertainment now they have no choice but in past 2 years ago people ask them but they avoid to save CDJs sales
1200 is due out allegedly
Pioneer needs to come out with an SZ3 that has screens, is Serato and Rekordbox/video/karaoke compatible, while still keeping all the features of the SZ2, with moving platters. That would be the ultimate controller. I dont care if that mofo had to be another foot longer it would be badass 😂
Denon Platters are small, but if you get used to that, the unit is great.
This is by far the best product review i have seen on the prime 4! awesome job, you make me want to start doing product reviews over here in the UK and not just me doing DJ gig logs, i always look forward to your videos :)
I’ll give up laptops when these systems can do everything VDJ can do. I’m giving this system a try though.
First off, let me say thank you for such a thorough review. Seriously, I randomly picked 3 vids on this controller and 2 of them were Dennon vids...but I enjoyed and understood yours best. *Yes I liked the specs and all that Dennon spoke on, but if I did a video, it would be most like yours.
Now, fyi, I am an old school 80s DJ and I've only have in to the digital controller thing in the past 5 yrs. I still use my Tech 12s when at home. But when it comes to controllers, I've tried several. Pioneer DDJs, Traktor S4, and Dennons. At first my favorite was Pioneers...but when the Dennon Prime MCX8000 came out, it was a great change of pace. Been using it every since.
Last month I started having trouble with my 💻 MacBook and I tried running my setup on a PC laptop...#HatedIt!!!
So I was hoping to find a good stand alone setup that had a great display.
This Prime 4 All In One is off the chain. I expect to pick one up in the coming weeks.
Thanks again for your efforts on this vid.
#DJ4Life #OldSkoolJunky
Totally Agree
Denon DJ have been the only company in my opinion to really work to close the gap between the standalone software and laptop software experience, and bundle it in with hardware that really takes advantage of that upgraded software potential. I am sure that Pioneer DJ won't be very far behind, I can only see the standalone share of the market catching up with the laptop share when wireless music streaming is eventually implemented into the software.
It's a great controller. Finally proper competition for pioneer rx and rx2. For me there is no point to use laptop if we have that advance unite as denon prime4
Price?
Damm I can't wait till Traktor comes out with something like this, this will take laptop away 100% this is the future
It looks great and I am sure its functionality is top notch but I used to use the NS7 and switched to turntables with Serato DVS. You can't compare the feel of the turntable platters and its weight vs a controller. Just my opinion.
I have wait 10 years for a full controller like this 😁
What if the screen fails or breaks? Can you hook up a laptop and run Serato for backup? Also can it do videos?
That's a great question
Not videos but yes you can use it via USB with your laptop
It's a fair question that a lot ask but honestly, what if the screen on a computer fails? why do people expect it to work if the screen fails lol And who is to say it will? I've owned 5-6 tablets in the last few years and none of them had a failed screen :) just saying.
SRNM true these DJs are pussies. Try something new!
@@srnm4824 why so many tablets
For me future is already here Algoriddim Djay with Spotify access. What else can somebody need ? Reloop’ mixon 4 controller is a beast and when used with an ipad pro 12,9 inches it kills Denon by far. Spotify integration is THE future.
Did they ever get offline mode sorted out?
Not yet but Imho it’s just a matter of time before they do it. 5g is about to come and all seems to go toward cloud based. Of course i never said a hd with local files was not a life saver in emergency situations but having access to millions of tracks at a fingertip was a must for me. Itunes app is about to close this year, and itunes store too, streaming will be the standard anytime soon. Djay has everything a DJ might expect (their last version has even too much features for me). I have mixed entire nights with nothing but 4g and even 3g connections and spotify only, it works seemless. Any thought about Djay guys ?
Yeps you got that right
marcalmerasmusic you party alone a lot?
Thank you Denon
It will be some Serato ready soon
Barr, quick question.... have you ever played a gig using CD's or vinyl? Something without a laptop? Its amazing. I cannot wait for this to drop, Ill gladly be picking one up. Cannot wait!
I'm all about switching to an All in One system. I own two Apple MacBook Pros, but every time I do an update on the software I'm scared of losing my entire music library. One of my laptops is from 2012, I did all the upgrades to include switching the HD to an SSD. But I honestly don't know how much longer Apple will support it. Having an All in One system remove those concerns from the equation. The other advantage is that I can create playlist with any device and just add them to the Denon Prime 4.
About time to upgrade my Cortex media player. It worked great with smaller libraries, but would glitch badly in a search while playing music on a larger drive. Did love the rack mount dual deck design for managing a media library and even supports USB drives in larger sizes. It supported a USB keyboard for keyboard searches instead of a virtual keyboard and keyboard shortcuts for for switching decks, play, cue, search, etc. It was my main requests deck. The keyboard function was not well documented but a fantastic addition as the media player lived in my outboard box and could be cued and searched from a small wireless keyboard. Does the Denon support a USB keyboard for search entry and hotkeys? Loved the search function with a keyboard. Just type a word and the results are broken out by artist, song title, album, folder, etc. and as text was not a hot key combination, typing would switch to search regardless of what else it is doing. Made search super easy. Typing diamond produces results of artist such as Neil Diamond, and songs containing the word such as Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. I hope the Denon search works the same and can use a USB keyboard.
*drooling. I wonder if there is an Auto Mix feature for cocktail or dinner time?
Jose Heredia that’s what the zone feature is for!
Use ch4 to send a playlist/mix out to a whole other sound system.
Yeah, and if you are not using the zone out in another room, most speakers have two inputs, so you can zone out to the same speakers to take advantage of the continuous playing playlist.
Yes there is, it will continue through a playlist.
This controller is a great back up unit as I use my pioneer DDJ1000 as my main kit !! I would purchase this as back up unit and take with me to my mobile gigs.
Not ready to give up my laptop yet, but this is exciting to see what the future of mobile DJing will bring. Good Review.
I have a Pioneer DDJ SB3. It has helped me through some good gigs, but it's time for an upgrade and this bad boy seems like it would do the job just fine.
I'll stick my Pioneer DJ DDJ RZX and looking forward new DDJ-800 controller.
Have you had any issues whit the rzx so far????
@@nosoyononofuiyo5200 NO, I used them during live concert arenas & stadiums which I don't have any problem with.
Dj Bar a quick mix in this mixer would be nice , even better with the music you like 😁. It would be nice to play a mix of yours in my car , I drive long distances 🥵 . Have a bless life 😄
I m ready 💪 o yeah baby ♥️♥️
If it has an app that can download music (legally of course) this will be the end of laptops for djing
DJ Miggy hardly, Denons not exactly first choice for DJ’s and most already have a massive collection on a computer, no backup option either
Being able to install a hard drive differentiates this controller from pioneer gear. I still do believe that the feel of the XDJ-XZ is better overall. I would be interested in doing a sound quality check between the two units for analog inputs.
still stumped with the whole dont want to take laptop out complaints. We carry hundreds of pounds of DJ equipment as mobile DJ's. Your telling me finding space and my god - having to lug an extra 4.1 pounds of laptop with all that music and processing power plus stability in a backpack is deal breaker - SMH. These stand-a-lones are nice - provide another option. But not having to take laptop to me provides no added bonus. Always wondered why the controller hate was out there.
My sentiments exactly. I use a NUC desktop with 27 inch monitor. I'm bringing in subs, not crying about the computer. I would buy this and still bring my NUC and monitor, because I have been doing this long enough to know that shit happens.
Very well put together video for an unboxing and first look! I already don’t use a laptop as I have a Pioneer XDJ RX and this product looks exciting - Will you be DJing with the Prime 4?😎🎧👍🏻
Love my ddj 1000 but it lacks connectivity for sure
A ddj 1000 with
Midi port to sync external grooveboxes etc
2 USB storage connections
Network connection
I DJ now with a lot of video’s, also karaoke gigs. Does this work with video?
Not by itself. No HDMI or any video out. You will need to continue to use Serato Video or VDJ.
They say you can play video from resolume, soundswitch and timecode
Thinking about it further, you could use a USB to HDMI adaptor. As long as Denon has a way to route the video it could work.
I wanted to buy this, but I decided to buy 2x sc6000 with mixer and it was a good decisipn
I’m completely ready for the untethering.
I think the unit is right on time
are u going to be doing a few gig logs with this new controller, to see how it preforms on the road?
Nice job my friend!
Here is a scenario...at a wedding and guest requests a off the wall song that isn't in my playlist..using my laptop I can get on, search for it and find it and download it. With this can you hook up your laptop and search on a laptop and drag and drop into the controller or do you tell the guest sorry don't have it? Also what type of media files does it recognize? Mp3, Mp4, Wav, etc...
Really stepping up the production bro! Great work!
how is the ergonomic.. do you have to reach out to type for a song.. reaching out will take a toll on your back.. I bought a Odyssey case and after 5 hours of reaching out to type on my laptop.. my back starts killing me.. just saying..
you mention u can plug a keyboard, how about a mouse.. that would save my back.. LOL
You have to get a Odyssey back brace.. the one with the shinny chrome straps.. 😁
Djs wonder why I got red of my gigantic case?
@@Jeanuwine so it hurts your back too leaning forward to type a song.
I have the same problem..reaching over kills your back. I wonder if you can hookup a keyboard, and keep it off to the side.
@@deejayfal bar said you can hook up a keyboard to it..
Yes. I want to lose the laptop. Buying this next month!
I have a really big question. Has anyone actually got theirs yet? Denon DJ's Facebook page is full of nothing but people pissed off because they pre-ordered in January and STILL haven't received one. It was "released" May 15th, yet I can't find a single person that has recieveed theirs.
Lucky! Lucky man that shit look fucking crazy!!!
Two big concerns
1) the extra work for prepping my music on a laptop and transferring to it (if it has bpm supreme and iTunes able to be put on it yes it will catch)
2) needs to have a DJ pool and wifi connection to look and get songs at gigs as requests
1) if you install a HDD in the available bay underneath, you can just plug in the unit to your laptop and it will see it as a HDD and do all your work without having to transfer anything.
2) It has wifi and it will support a few streaming services.
Good luck flying with that massive thing not to mention trying to fit it into most club dj booths.. also make sure you bring an XLR to RCA cable cause most venues only have one main out so you'll prob be daisy chaining it into the DJ mixer... but to be fair, the build quality is surprisingly decent especially from Denon which usually known for entry-level devices, although those trigger pads are garbage... I also question the software and would have more faith in this product if this could run Traktor and/or Serato. Did they build the software specifically for this device or has it been on the market?
I just ordered mine. Looking forward to dmx control. Word has it denon is engaging the Ai industry and plans to use Dpirme4 as its ai platform.
Ready for the future
Ive never DJ'd with a laptop. Lucky enough to do Vinyls and CDJ's. So the PRIME 4 really excites me. Pioneer doesnt have a product that matches it yet. They do in a 2 channel but not a 4.
Ae como que faço para deixa configurado nela. A opção das músicas que já foram tocadas. Elas ficarem já marcadas pra saber. Teria como fazer isso nela DJ 👆🏻🙄🤔
I'm a Mobile Retro VJ in Tasmania Australia, the prime would be useless to me, there's no Video Out connections like a composite video or HDMI to send video to an external monitor. I'm guessing you can connect your laptop to the Denon Prime 4 via USB and use your existing software on your laptop like Serato Video or Virtual DJ. But that defeats the whole point of buying this product since you buy it to get away from using a laptop on gigs. So this would just be an expensive controler, looks great, but without a roadcase designed to protect that screen it would be smashed in transit on your first gig!
Congratulations !!!
Sweet looking piece of machinery damn I really wish for one
You can plug your laptop into the prime 4. But can you do laptop switch off. IE. On person is using traktor then another person will come up behind with serato or virtual dj. Can we switch from one dj to another. I know the unit is compatible with these DJ softwares but can you switch off. Can you please do a review on that. Thanks
i jumped straight into the sc6000s
Got mine on layaway right now! Hope to get it by next week!
That shits clean. Wanna cop.
Barrs can you do a video on your photo booth??? I'm thinking if adding this service, but I dont know where to start
This is amazing, i wish it would have larger platters but i have small hands also, it is what you are used to i guess. Maybe there will be revisions because this looks as it will be killing it
It is almost perfect. Video features are missing. If it could support video mixing and have a HDMI output then It would have been perfect. I am still waiting for a standalone mixer that offers video.
When I began....NO LAPTOP......JUST 2 TURNTABLES & 1 MIXER..... eventually 4 TTs......so for me....this is the KING of DJ CONTROLLERS......MOVE OVER PIONEER
Glad you released this video, I've been taking in as much watch time as I can find about the Prime4
Did they release the HORIZONTAL wave form update yet?
ive been keeping a close eye on the release info from Denon and horizotal wave forms are coming soon. not out of the box tho
You can also go with the Numark NS7III with the included screens and keep the laptop tucked away. But the Denon Prime 4 eliminates the need to even bring your overpriced Macs along at all. 👍
It's 2020 is it still in beta version?
Can check Digital DJ Tips here on CZcams. He covers more features about this unit.
So fresh, so clean 🧼 oof
Bu their's no HDMI video output port to hook it up to a display monitor, or USB to hook up a keyboard to type. I want that also.
Supposed to work with SDJ soon. That should address your concern.
Just pre-ordered one.
And returned it. You are forced to pick a BPM Range so it analyzes songs and assigns them within that range. If a song is outside the range, than it halves or doubles the range. No big deal for EDM DJs, not good for open format DJs.
Hey Barr I got a question? First of all it was cool to meet you for the first time of me and my girlfriend in Mobile Beat this year. I can’t be a Baller like you (lol) But I can’t afford the metal trusses silver that you and webb has I have the cheap black trussing (single) I put two gigbar 2.0 and two small 60 watt moving heads on it (Sorry I have no picture for it) it works and with the gigbar they work nice . Your thoughts
NOPE... serato for life, but if I had the controller I would still load a 2tb SSD into the controller as a backup for laptop problems or I’m feeling extra lazy that day
They are people that still use vinyl and physical media
point being?
@@ThisIsNotASafeSpace I get tired of people saying what people don't use when it comes to some form of media
I've been looking at switching to a controller from my CDJ's. Pioneer, Traktor, Numark, Reloop, Roland etc all have Solid Controllers. That internal storage option and that touch screen is the game changer. That feature sets that unit apart for me. Everyone has a good controller with Serato, I can still use Serato if I want but I don't have to. I wasn't gonna buy a new Macbook pro because I have silly little problems with mine and apple hasn't been very helpful. I was gonna buy a 2015 Macbook 2nd hand cause I can't handle the trash apple makes now, but you know what I might as well buy the Prime 4 and go back to pc and I can keep my current 2014 MBP as serato back up or if I wanna use my old set up or turntables.
ES VERDADERAMENTE UNA MARAVILLA, PARA MI ES LO MÁXIMO YO TENGO LA MC 2000, IMAGÍNATE.
how much memory can it with stand as far as all the music we carry on our hardrives?
Yescas Alfonso officially it supports a 1TB internal harddrive as far as I know. So it can read a volume of at least 1TB
Tons and tons
i just ordered it
how about if you have 3 djs playing music in a club? how they will load their library?
2 usb slots, 1 HD, you can use 1 slot to play while the 2nd is installed for analyzing.
3:40-3:42 "That's what she said."
Such a nice controller
I have question about hot cues.
I was trying Prime 2 today and there was one thing I couldn't figure out. Whe I use my MC3000 together with Virtual DJ I use a lot of Hot Cues. The cool thing is that each time I use any of my Hot Cues and then press CUE button music stops at the last Hot Cue I used instead of going back to "main" cue point ( the one next to PLAY button ). It's so annoying that in Prime 2 each time I am testing my Hot Cues I have to find the way to go to the one I like. For example I want to jump to one of them and prepare loop... If I just pres hot cue button It starts playing and I cant set the loop.
I hope you understand what I mean.
Is this possible to make Prime going back to last Hot Cue I used? I was testing only with original OS without updating.
I just bought one and it changed my life but when first trying it i had to make my hard drive exfat and cleared my whole drive
I am a totally blind DJ, my question about this product is. Is it all touchscreen what can I do like with the pioneers in there’s a button on the turntable where I can change the folders or is everything touchscreen in the middle of the mixer. Can somebody answer that question for me
I got to use this thing and I was super excited about it but I ended up kind of hating it. It is really small like you said and the operating system it uses is pretty weird. Its not super user friendly, it would probably be easier to plug a keyboard into it. I feel like this controller is for a very small niche of people that there is almost no point in making it. Eventually controllers like this might be the standard but for now im gonna stick with my laptop and controller.
Do this controller have Wifi Ability to download a song on the spot like a laptop??
