I agree that pokemon could just keep the good things they've established with this game, and take the flaws for the next game and improve them, like the graphics and the overworld.
I don’t see anyone really getting upset with this review honestly, it shares the same sentiments with a lot if critiques. The game doesn’t look the best and a lot of people seem a bit lukewarm on the story and characters, but others do find them enjoyable regardless. Yeah. I can see how this type of stuff could easily get to the point where it doesnt feel like its "pokemon" anymore... But if they arent going to have the national dex, I dont want pokemon to be pokemon. Pokemon when it feels like pokemon just doesnt make sense if friends are missing. So instead, just shake up the feeling entirely.
@@Yipper64 while it sucks missing your favorite Pokémon, if the gameplay is this enjoyable and the increase amount of detail for each Pokémon’s animations and attributes, I’d be okay with the smaller roster of the dex. Even if I miss my beloved Alolan Raichu
Ever since Dunkey “joked” in one video about Pokemon being a low-quality franchise I‘ve never stopped thinking about that every time I see videos of the newer games
I really hope Pokemon Company sees the overcoming and lets them spend time to polish it on the next sequel instead pushing one milimeter with every game to line up with the show and merch or smthng. Nice video Al, made me do the funni
Pokepark 2 was a really fun game. Couldn't tell you how many hours I put into that game. If Nintendo ever remastered or made a new game like that, it would an instant buy. Nothing wrong with PL Arceus, but would rather play Pokepark 2 (or a pokepark like game)
I think for me the biggest plus is that this game reignited feelings of wonder and joy exploring new locations, finding new Pokemon, and actually wanting to complete the Pokedex within a Pokemon game. For far too many entries in the series, it has just been catch the mons I want to use on my team, ignore the rest, button mash through the sad excuse for a story, and be bored as the advanced rock-paper-scissors combat I mastered 15 years ago can't produce a challenge for a grown adult. Legends Arceus is certainly flawed but makes for great building blocks for future games. Will Gamefreak capitalize on that? Who knows! Probably not! They seem to hate good ideas and despise what the 20+ years old fans want from the series. The unfortunate reality of it is that rather than improve on Legends Arceus, IF (and that's a BIG IF) Gamefreak does go back to this formula for a future entry, they probably won't change enough in the right direction.
You talking about how really poorly made the game ended up being then instantly asking why you liked it so much is exactly how I felt. I still play mindlessly for fun! Glad you also liked it better than the last 2 relatively stale installments, I don’t think I can ever go back.
It's the Dark Souls of Pokemon games because you drop your inventory when you die and somebody has to go collect it. Lol At least get all the plates, the trainer fight for the last plate is definitely worth seeing.
Are there problems with this game? yes. But I rebute with this, they actually fixed some of the problems that sword and shield had. Like better models and animation, y’a know the reason why dexit happened. The models that are here, like the Pokémon feel more alive then they did in the past 3D Pokémon games. They even fixed rapidash’s shiny back to what it was in gold and silver. I am interested to see how they take this and elaborate on it either in gen 9 or 10. Perhaps a legends unova game that goes over the original dragon and team plasma. Right now this is the best 3D Pokémon game that has released, it’s not perfect and in fact it has glaring flaws, but the gameplay loop here is addictive and sucks you in.
They should do *Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions* did and have new tutorial entries get added to an index so they can reviewed at later point. Similar to the Teachy TV item in FireRed & LeafGreen.
This is coming from someone who hasn't picked up the game. I'm just going off of what I've seen and heard. I'm definitely glad that lots of people are loving this game, and that alone has at least put it on my radar now. But I do think there are some rough things worth noting. I'm normally not a stickler when it comes to graphics, and while this does look better than Sword & Shield, the plastic look the characters have, the sloppy animations, and the lack of voice acting to make them more bearable, on top of the constant pop-in and flat textures the environments have, genuinely makes me glad that Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl look the way they do since stuff like this is a lot more forgivable in the top-down chibi style. Of course, I'd love to explore Sinnoh in a great next-gen way, but I simply can't trust The Pokémon Company to deliver on that right now, so I'll take it. I also feel like the gameplay loop would get repetitive very quickly as it's still the same core formula at heart, but now you get to freely explore an environment that, from what I've seen anyways, is just... grass. Nothing that exciting in terms of locales. This has a solid foundation for something much greater in the future. It's just a matter of polish.
Personally, I absolutely love modern Pokemon games. I don't get the graphics issues that everyone else complains about. As in, I never actually get them, not that I don't understand why people get mad at them. Bad textures? Yes, I'll admit, I noticed the crappy textures and copy-paste trees during my playthrough, but do they actually affect the game? No, so I'm personally not all that bothered. Also, to people complaining about Pokemon not having a "good story"... you do know that you're playing a Nintendo game, right? These aren't games about thought-provoking, Dark Souls levels of story writing. Even the games with "amazing stories" are still pretty simple when compared to other games like God of War. Pokemon Black and White was just the main villains Ghetsis and N not knowing about their own world's rules and the fact that caught Pokemon actually love their trainers. Like you said, Uncle Al, Pokemon games aren't exactly about story. In the end, I love modern Pokemon and Nintendo games. I'm a gameplay first type of guy. Yes, if the main draw is the story of the game, I will put gameplay aside, but as I just said, Nintendo doesn't make thought-provoking stories save for... what, like Fire Emblum? Is Earthbound still relavent? I'm here for a fun game, and yeah, I got a fun game. I caught every Pokemon and y'know what, I had fun. And if you haven't had fun and disagree with me with your whole heart... that's perfectly fine! I'm not here to judge you for hating Pokemon games, I'm here to watch a funny man who loves Donkey Kong talk about Pokemon. We all have our own opinions and I won't bitch if you disagree. Hell, this fairly negative review from Al is one that I actually agree with to an extent, so yeah... go ahead and fuggin hate 'em. Like Al said before, "It isn't that hard to just not be a bitch". I do have a complaint though. I would've loved to have been able to actually explore. Constantly having to go back and forth from the town to a different area was really shit. In the real end, love what you wanna love and hate what you wanna hate. I also should've just been clearer before this edit.
You're allowed to enjoy the modern Pokémon games, but at the same time, people are allowed to dislike and criticize elements that are not very good about them, such as story. It's an RPG game, a genre mostly known for it's storytelling elements, and when those elements are subpar, people are going to talk about them. Whether it affects your experience or not isn't the point, for a lot of people it does hamper the experience. You can enjoy the gameplay and still be disappointed by the story, and have it negatively impact your experience with a game.
@@UncleAlPlus oh no, don't get me wrong, I understand that. I should've been much clearer with what I was saying. All my fault, sorry. I understand why people hate modern Pokemon, and to be honest, I don't blame 'em. They can hate the games, and I can love them. I... really should've made myself clearer. If you hate modern Pokemon, by all means, feel free. In fact, I actually love this review despite me and you being on seperate viewpoints on it. I don't like forcing my opinions on people and I can understand why they don't like the lack of stories or horrible graphics in Pokemon games. In the end, have a great day, Uncle Al. Your content is genuinly some of the funniest stuff out there. I'll miss the shitposts on the main channel (considering you said that you were done with them) but hey, I'll keep watching your stuff because... well, you're actually funny and you make great points in your reviews. TL;DR I have stupid Koala brain so I fix thing and say sorry.
I love the fact that you have to warn your audience over valid criticism towards Nintendo As if they can't handle someone dissing a filthy rich company that gives little to no Fs about its own consumer base. So far as blatantly going out of their way to ruin the fun for many or even lambast lives with their lawsuits
Why did I almost hear that one Cranky Kong line and JJ voice when you said "a lot of"? I was almost heading that c drug word that was used in the second DKC abridged episode.
Dude I did that same thing with the Santa clause Deer jumping off the cliff too like why the hell am I suffering for an animal I was trying to pull a yoshi on
Your so right. But to be fair I don't understand why we couldn't be enjoying a new Donkey Kong game instead. I wish Nintendo would stop giving pokemon so much spotlight
Looks like something that would click for me. I'll wait a bit to see if there's dlc coming, I always prefer playing the fullest version of any game, I had a good time with pokemon shield that way, only recently picking up the game bundled with dlc on the cartrige.
I completely respect your decision. I do also think that they could've done alot more with the communication features, and whatnot. I do hope you get out of the massacre that is pokemon twitter alive, so you can review Kirby when that comes out.
To me arceus is a 4 or 3 out of stars since it's pretty good but definitely not perfect although I think it's a nice game since I've completed it by catching them all
It does kinda suck that there's no multiplayer, but really battling against people just wouldn't have been very fun. The battle system has some major flaws, such as picking your move after the opponent moves instead of both of you picking at the same time.
I don't know that it's a good game but it is a very fun game and honestly if a game is fun that's really all I care about and my big problem with the series for the longest time is that very recently it hasn't been
DK Banana of the Slama Kalamity K Rool when? I loved the darker aspect of the game but yeah most characters don't have much personality. Your friend character is still the same friend character from Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield. I simply love the fact that they're being slightly more realistic with the idea that yeah Pokemon can kill humans in this game but it's still isn't the best game I played since birth. but it's the best Pokemon game I played.
Favorite review. It says it's kinda fun but don't ignore the problems. Problems I bet will never get fixed like Halo Infinite. Also I just trust a monke more than hu man.
I personally am having some fun with this game, and I do agree there is a lot of flaws that could be improved, I'm with you fully, the backgrounds are boring and too similar, mainly because they tried to base the environment entirely off of sinnoh, there was a lot that was lacking but this game is a very good baby step into quality gaming. I really had hoped to see pokemon hunting, communicating, and fighting each other instead of just standing around being sitting ducks, and the way that the dialogue was saying that pokemon are terrifying and dangerous,,, I don't feel there's a solid reason to be terrified by a pokemon, and to be fully immersed in the past stories and fears. But yeah! I'm just as surprised as you are, because this game is certainly fun and engaging, just feeling a little rushed in development.
Pretty sure if Legend Arceus was the first main Pokemon game on switch, that the Pokemon communauty wouldnt had been that divised. Im pretty surprised how I enjoy it or maybe because of my expectation being low from the start and sure the graphics aint that great (I despise the shading work, it make a lot of thing ugly in my opinion) but it's a great step in the good direction, compared to a 3DS port (Sword/Shield).
Tbh I used to be on the boat that this game was gonna be garbage, but now that people have been *playing* the game and revealing the gameplay's really good that proved me wrong and I'm glad it did. Now I consider Legends Arceus as more of a step in the right direction for the games as a whole, it still needs work but it's definitely a step in the right direction.
It may indeed be not the greatest but compared to the last few years of pokemon this hamburger 🍔 might as well be a steak 🥩 sandwich 🥪 / shiny hunting has become much more fun done recent years
Pffft, Pokemon fans admiting something isn't as good as they initially precieved it? Clearly someone's never tried to tell a Pokemon fan that Red/Blue/Yellow haven't aged well.
I do get your points but I really love legends arceus anyway. to be honest i dont give a shit about graphics anymore due to COD vangaurd and CP2077. I say the only graphically issue is rendering for me. However it would be pretty cool if they add hunts, tournaments, and other spazzy minigames you can play separately. Though to be frank gamefreak needs a break and pokemon company give the franchise to other game companies. So that gamefreak can test out and see what they need while other companies can give pokemon a needed new touch.
Honestly wish you would've gone harder on this. You're probably still feeling burns from past nintendo fan experiences but I've seen waaayyyyy too much of a press give up and give the game a pass. This game gets some stuff right but truthfully still deserves a fair share of ripping. I'm not surprised that most people received it well but I'd wish there were at least a few that would give it a well deserved writeup.
I think out of all the reviews ive seen I can nail down what this game is. Its *better* than sword and shield. Im guessing sun and moon level pokemon game. Not the best, or really even average, but good. Its flaws are things, while they shouldnt be there, things I dont care about. Hopefully. Im picking up the game today, so I cant say I know quite yet.
*Pokémon company trying new things* Me- the graphics aren’t that good, you could of done more, the music is pretty ok, Pokémon still appears out of no where Pokémon company- so you hate it? Me- *spends 8 hours of my day playing it* nah
Some of the ideas for this game are there but they weren’t well executed or had much effort put into them. What’s the point of giving us this huge open area to run around in if the environments look so shitty and there’s nothing to explore? lol like you can’t even go for a swim for more than 5 secs without drowning. I want the Pokémon to have soul and actually be in places that makes sense for that pokemon like A zubat should be in a dark cave somewhere hanging from the ceiling not outside chilling in broad day or buizel swimming in the water at jet speeds not just pacing back in forth like a robot. And Some things are still there that need to be scrapped completely in order for it to truly separate itself for the better from the past games like the turn based combat and the animations for the moves and pokemon. When I use bite or crunch I should visually see the pokemon opening it’s mouth and bite the flesh of the opposing pokemon not just some big dentures showing up on my screen. I wish gamefreak will stop being so lazy and cashing out on all of the googly eyed Pokémon fans and become more ambitious and creative with their ideas because I see the potential but I just don’t think they will ever reach it because they are satisfied with just doing the bare minimum for some easy cash.
This game looks so goddamn boring. It looks like once you've experienced walking around and catching for 20 minutes, you've experienced the whole game.
Despite the flaws this game has it is by far the most fun I’ve had with a mainline Pokémon game in years. Im optimistic that gamefreak is using this entry to lay a groundwork for future games, which is a little complacent Ik but progress is progress right?
If there’s one thing I hate more then defensive Nintendo fans, it’s defensive Pokemon fans, they are the most stubborn, close minded, stuck in the past fans I have ever met, just because you and your hive mind all agree on the same things, doesn’t mean the rest of us do
Honestly, the gameplay is good, it carries the game so much more than I ever expected. It's everything surrounding the gameplay that just reeks lol. It's just good though, not great, not amazing, just good.

@@Yipper64 while it sucks missing your favorite Pokémon, if the gameplay is this enjoyable and the increase amount of detail for each Pokémon’s animations and attributes, I’d be okay with the smaller roster of the dex. Even if I miss my beloved Alolan Raichu
Great review Al, keep up the good work
Ever since Dunkey “joked” in one video about Pokemon being a low-quality franchise I‘ve never stopped thinking about that every time I see videos of the newer games
I really hope Pokemon Company sees the overcoming and lets them spend time to polish it on the next sequel instead pushing one milimeter with every game to line up with the show and merch or smthng. Nice video Al, made me do the funni
Don't let them haters ever stop you from making reviews like this man. Keep it up!
Currently, I'm having a lot of fun with this game, but, you know, it's not as good as Poképark 2: Wonders Beyond for the Nintendo Wii

I love the 16-bit curb your enthusiasm theme
Brilliant use of curb music _chef’s kiss_
Remember Al, it may be a step in the right direction, but then, so was Paper Mario Color Splash.
Can't wait for Game Freak to drive this great new system into the ground until we're all bored of it :D
Pokemon takes one tiny step forward & gets all the praise. Thats what happens when itterats for almost 2 decades.
Judging by footage alone, the NPCs look like they were taken straight out of the 3DS era
Nice video
A sequel on a future platform in a modern day setting would be fantastic
Very nice take. Its a step in the right direction even if it's lacking
"pokemon games have never had the strongest stories or characters"
pokemon bw/bw2: *are we a joke to you?*
You talking about how really poorly made the game ended up being then instantly asking why you liked it so much is exactly how I felt. I still play mindlessly for fun! Glad you also liked it better than the last 2 relatively stale installments, I don’t think I can ever go back.
My mom said Uncle Al sounds like Stan from American Dad.
I look forward to the day Uncle Al helps make the next pokemon game, even if I don't play it.
Look up Gym Leader Ed. You'll find tons of indie monster collectors or 3rd party monster collectors better than the average Pokemon game.
Good luck on Pokaman Twatter. You're going to need it...
It's the Dark Souls of Pokemon games because you drop your inventory when you die and somebody has to go collect it.
Lol At least get all the plates, the trainer fight for the last plate is definitely worth seeing.
That Curb your enthusiasm remix is fantastic.
But yeah, I had a good time with this game despite looking like a potato at times.
9:03 that one friend in the group during a photoshoot be like
I guarantee this game will have a part 2 dlc that actually has some of the basic stuff like multiplayer
They should do *Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions* did and have new tutorial entries get added to an index so they can reviewed at later point. Similar to the Teachy TV item in FireRed & LeafGreen.
Banger ass game right here!
Lovley monke review video
What's the music at 3:34?
Aye no worries dude. Sometimes it can be tricky to know what people are getting at in text alone haha, you're good.
@@UncleAlPlus cool, thanks! 😁
I love the fact that you have to warn your audience over valid criticism towards Nintendo
As if they can't handle someone dissing a filthy rich company that gives little to no Fs about its own consumer base. So far as blatantly going out of their way to ruin the fun for many or even lambast lives with their lawsuits
The warning is less for my audience, and more for rabid fanboys lol. My audience is thankfully pretty chill.
@@UncleAlPlus I getchu, fam. We the real ones 🔥
Why did I almost hear that one Cranky Kong line and JJ voice when you said "a lot of"? I was almost heading that c drug word that was used in the second DKC abridged episode.
They should have asked you "O what do you want to know. Do you know how to throw a pokeball?" Or skip tutorial
0:55 Al mentioned Balan Wonderworld. :D
It took me so long to complete this Dex but was actually able to complete it nonetheless
I thought it was good not amazing but I still like it
That's pretty much how I'd summarize my thoughts lol
This game is a nice beta test for the next game.
Hey mr. Al, we know about your opinion on games with gameplay on the shorter side, so what do you think about the game length in this game.
Not bad at all. The main game alone took me close to 30 hours, and there's still the post game content.
Amazing experience, just needs less glitches tbh
I completely respect your decision. I do also think that they could've done alot more with the communication features, and whatnot. I do hope you get out of the massacre that is pokemon twitter alive, so you can review Kirby when that comes out.
To me arceus is a 4 or 3 out of stars since it's pretty good but definitely not perfect although I think it's a nice game since I've completed it by catching them all
It does kinda suck that there's no multiplayer, but really battling against people just wouldn't have been very fun.
The battle system has some major flaws, such as picking your move after the opponent moves instead of both of you picking at the same time.
Enjoying a game with flaws is the way to go
I don't know that it's a good game but it is a very fun game and honestly if a game is fun that's really all I care about and my big problem with the series for the longest time is that very recently it hasn't been
This is the emptiest open world/zone game ive played
gonna wait until they actually try
I love this game, but do wish game freak would've had another 6 months to work on it or so.
We needed voice acting
It's fucking Game Freak. They never knew how to make games since the first Pokémon, Red and Green
Uncle primate Albert man funny
Honestly I disagree with the character thing, i think these are the best Pokémon characters in years :)
Never played a Pokemon game before, played Arceus and have to say ...I'm going back to apex legends
Clearly someone's never tried to tell a Pokemon fan that Red/Blue/Yellow haven't aged well.
i like the gameplay but the framerate and graphics ruin it for me
I do get your points but I really love legends arceus anyway. to be honest i dont give a shit about graphics anymore due to COD vangaurd and CP2077.
Even Sonic 06 had voice actors, Balan Wonder world had voice actors, what's this games excuse?
Honestly wish you would've gone harder on this. You're probably still feeling burns from past nintendo fan experiences but I've seen waaayyyyy too much of a press give up and give the game a pass. This game gets some stuff right but truthfully still deserves a fair share of ripping. I'm not surprised that most people received it well but I'd wish there were at least a few that would give it a well deserved writeup.
HOW DARE YOU MAKE A TOTALLY FAIR AND REASONABLE ARGUEMENT INSTEAD OF BLINDLY HATING/LOVING EVERY ASPECT OF THIS GAME
SwSh had the option to skip tuts. Just sayin.
Yeah, even I'm tired of the whole tutorial/bloated dialogue thing, too.
Easy games are one thing.
Sloggy games are a whole new animal.
I mean Balan Wonderworld is "slighty" better
I feel sorry for the Pokemon fan’s these recent Pokemon games have questionable
I mean have been
*Pokémon company trying new things*
Me- the graphics aren’t that good, you could of done more, the music is pretty ok, Pokémon still appears out of no where
Pokémon company- so you hate it?
If there’s one thing I hate more then defensive Nintendo fans, it’s defensive Pokemon fans, they are the most stubborn, close minded, stuck in the past fans I have ever met, just because you and your hive mind all agree on the same things, doesn’t mean the rest of us do
Gameplay: good.
Graphics: ass.
The game still isn’t good. However, it’s 100% improving off of how fucking bad the games have been recently.
Honestly, the gameplay is good, it carries the game so much more than I ever expected. It's everything surrounding the gameplay that just reeks lol. It's just good though, not great, not amazing, just good.
@@UncleAlPlus Could agree with that
