Don't agree with #3. You should have high expectations and keep striving to become better and do better in whichever field of your choosing. Becoming your own Master and dominating a particular domain provides great joy and satisfaction. It's always better to aim high and keep climbing than to just settle for less and take the path of least resistance. To fulfill your own potential and take as much responsibility as you can is what will make you truly happy in life. You can still have balance and chill out.

The mind is its own place. It can make a heaven out of a hell and hell out of a heaven. For me personally i feel happiest around animals and open water. Equating happiness with materialism leads to misery and even premature death. One of my good friends was very ambitious and was a millionaire by 40 years old. At 42 he died of a heart attack, he achieved his goal but died in the process. He never stopped working to take a moment for himself, look at the night sky in wonder, breathe fresh morning air . A wasted life really. At some point in life a man has to cultivate inner peace and just be content with what the Almighty has given you and he has given us all more than enough we just need to share it out equally. The best things in life are free, never a truer words than that...

*3 Stoic Ways To Be Happy:*
*1) Alter your judgement:* Most things that happen in our life are beyond our control. However, we can control our opinion or our judgment.
*2) Live virtuously:* Living according to nature. Virtue (wisdom, justice, braveness, moderation) leads to happiness.
*3) Lower your expectations:* Essence of high expectation is that we expect for desirable outcome for things that we don't have control over. This often don't work out and and leads to disappointment. *You are not entitled to the things that you wish for but to things that nature has given to you. Expecting more from nature results in suffering.*

As for lowering expectations would it not be better to raise our skills so we can meet our expectations thsy way instead of settling for less we actually make progress however uncomfortable the issue is not how low or high expectations are but to what degree we can narrow the gap between reality and expectations. Obviously meeting rather than surrendering expectations will always be more fulfilling even if it's not always possible

I have lived with the vices- now in misery- what to do now? How can I turn? How can I make the decision to choose? I've relationships attached within the vices.

It’s crazy, I totally forgot that people had different meanings for happiness. I’ve been chasing my own meaning for a long time.

Agree with the first two but not the last one I'm mixed.....yes keeping your expectations in check is important but I don't believe practicing being negative is a healthy solution....being aware that you have high expectations nd then comming back to the present is healthier aqnd raises frequency

Expectations from nature is natural our own dissatisfaction with nature which is indifferent is why our brains were able to evolve reason and solutions. If we were content with only our hands we would not have developed technology tools fire science in general artificial heating and artificial cooling. Thus nature Makes us uncomfortable and we adjust to the challenge of making ourselves comfortable as nature will not externally provide for us. If we were content with things as they are we would not have survived

This philosophy showed up in western literature thousands of years ago. The East was familiar with these ideas long before this.
It's interesting that these very same things in life are as relevant and as hair-pulling as they've been. Where did 'evolution' go wrong ? The heart and mind seem sometimes to behave alike David and Goliath.
Maybe it's distinctly human, but for me, it has forever been the most difficult of tasks to understand and accept something in my head, and then to begin 'feeling' the same.
The 'hows' in life will always be, by comparison, the very simplest of things, than understanding the 'whys'.
But to actually Feel these things sometimes feels like having to live forever. I'm missing something. Probably something right in front of my face.
It's not new, but it's getting very-very old.

That’s generally the Stoic view, too. Happiness, feeling fulfillment, is what’s left when suffering is absent… and Stoic teachings will help eliminate all suffering.
