By request, here is more of the 1963 Aida - the entire Nile scene in four parts. Remastered tape and improved sound (superior to my earlier upload). Hear the probably best Amonasro on record, Giangiacomo Guelfi, together with Leyla Gencer as Aida, Giulietta Simionato as Amneris and Gastone Limarilli as Radamès.

Cast eccezzionale!!!!!!! GENCER LIMARILLI.... Qui il duetto raggiunge vette eccezzionali per vocalità limpide, solide con armonici appieno nella parte, una GENCER nel pieno della maturità vocale artistiche, mezze voci angeliche del resto era nel novero delle grandi del tempo... LIMARILLI voce suadente granitica, non manca di squillo, va sugli acuti con naturalezza, belli pieni ben lanciati, si percepisce la scuola del grande maestro MDM. IL resto del cast non ha bisogno di commenti tanto non erano da meno. Tra le più belle edizioni di AIDA. Piacevole ascolto!!!!!! 🙏🙏

Fantastic performance...Gercer is exquisite in every way, and Guelfi is an overwhelmingly great Amonosro, with his immense voice, his towering presence, and his powerfully convincing acting!

Bravissimi entrambi!!! E la Gencer è anche molto bella. Hanno descritto due personaggi intensi ed appassionati sia vocalmente che espressivamente. Un bell'esempio per i giovani d'oggi.

Magari ci fosse oggi un lirico che canta Aida come Limarilli. Questa voce correva come un fulmine e poi si capisce che lui non vuole forzare ma che potrebbe dare molto di più , bravissimo!
Gliel'ho procurata io questa registrazione.. non c'è in commercio. Il quarto atto è stato annullato per via di un temporale dove ha fatto cadere due scene. Gastone limarilli, è stato un grande personaggio. Dio lo renda in gloria.

Limarilli was a Mellochi student. His voice is crisp and out front.Very enjoyable

Wow amazing singing from both singers. Limarilli's voice resembles Del Monaco's to me so much, although Limarilli's voice is not as dramatic. They did have the same teacher though. Two huge voices, nonetheless.
Limarilli's voice didn't get quite the dramatic or stentorian kick of Mario del Monaco's voice in full declamation, but he definitely more than makes up for it here with a vastly superior line, legato, and Italianate phrasing. Also am very glad he doesn't have MDM's same exaggerated stage mannerisms.

Compared to modern singers which are slightly better than Justin Bieber.
Lencer is wonderful, coloring her voice as needed to express emotion. Limarilli unfortunately, is more interested in singing the music than becoming involved in the drama. This kind of distancing creates an artistic imbalance and affects the overall performance adversely.

Gastone Lamarilli era tenor-lirico. Ele cantava de tenor-dramático por teimosia ou por mau orientação. O timbre era claro e pouco resistente, alem de graves apagados.
Anche Tamagno aveva la voce molto chiara,ma non era un lirico,era un drammatico
@@radames5855 quando Francesco Tamagno gravou seus discos, ela já havia se aposentado dos palcos. Aquela voz clara do Tamagno é falsa, ruido de disco antigo. Se fosse clara, Verdi não escalaria para ser seu primeiro Otello. Gastone Limarilli não era Teno Dramático, era Lírico.

@@radames5855 Condivido. E' l'accento drammatico che fa la differenza non il colore di voce. Ci sono state, in passato, voci enormi, ma chiare, non per questo erano tenori leggeri.
