When I was 5 years old, our neighbors had a St. Bernard named "Brutus." He was huge, but a super lovey guy. We had a 5 foot stone fence in our backyard and he could put his front feet on top of the fence and look over. I met him and played a couple of times at the neighbors house. Lots of kisses, lots of drool, total creampuff.

my neighbor had a Alaskan malamute super big dog and he was an escape artist so when we were playing in my yard it was always a chance he would come stumbling out of the bushes and we would play with him for 10-20 min then walk him home

Whenever I was staying at the grandparents, in Savoie (Alpes/France), the family would drive to the border of Italy to purchase cheaper alcohol. There was also a training school for rescue St Bernards. The biggest ones looked absolutely massive but also adorable and carried the traditional mini barrel full of alcohol to save skiers who got buried under the snow.
The smaller ones were to die for and for a few francs you could have a play with them and hug the bigger fellows.
Wait those barrel collars under their necks was an actual thing? I thought it was something made up in cartoons 😂

@@Serenity113 The rescue barrel was not an actual thing. It was first depicted in a painting in 1820, but was never actually used by mountain rescue dogs.
You actually don’t want to give a lost and possibly hypothermic traveler alcohol as that actually lowers the body temperature and would cause the traveler to die even quicker.

@@EStramel09 I've heard that they _did_ use some kind of collar/harness pack, but that it wasn't ever a barrel of liquor, but rather just a means to carry a tightly folded blanket or something similar. It just looked like a barrel, and thus conflated the myth.

When I was in high school way back when, my best friend’s mom had a huge St. Bernard named…Pansy. Pansy thought she was a lap dog, and, though full grown, we had to be prepared for her to try her utmost to sit on our laps when we watched t.v. She also thought she was a bowling ball…the house had all wood floors, and the big living room opened to an equally big dining room. If Pansy was in the living room when we sat down to eat, she would gleefully run (lope??) across the living room towards us, only to find that once in full lope, she couldn’t stop on those wood floors! She would then slide into the dining room, all four limbs akimbo as she desperately tried to stop herself, and inevitably plow into the big dining room chairs! Fortunately, no one was hurt. But no matter how many times this scene presented itself, Pansy would continue to “bowl” into many a dinner! Ludo was adorable! Thank you for your videos and always fun narration!

My neighbor, when I was a teenager, had a St. Bernard. My friend and I would “borrow” his puppy and bring him to our yard to play with him and also, let him play with our Dalmatian. He was a sweet pup! ✌🏼❤️
The little baby puppy is bigger than my senior adult dachshund! He's adorable, but I couldn't handle all the fur! That is great that you featured Niko's family Rescue Zoo. I've never heard of a Rescue Zoo before.
The most chill dog I have ever seen was a St Bernard named Tinkerbell. She was the absolute queen of low energy UNTIL you brought her ball then she became a maniac. Loved the dog so much.

I knew someone near me (we live in a very warm place where it's practically spring/summer year round) who had a St Bernard. They spent a small fortune on A/C for their fur baby but were like, "He's totally worth it."
I have a Newfoundland at home, and can 100% confirm that if they don't want to do a thing they'll go full passive resistance, sit down, and give you a flat "watcha-gonna-do-about-it" look because they absolutely know they're too big to be moved 🤣

Before I met my husband mid 90s, he had 6 St. Bernards. He built them their own room in the house, they had their fenced play yard. Vet and groom visits were 2 at a time. He has many fond memories and photos. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

I’m not gonna lie… it’s hard. It’s really hard. 2 weeks ago I had to say goodbye to my 13 year old lab girl.. and for the first time in forever, we can leave food on the floor since our other dog is picky. When I realized that I started to cry.
So yeah, cherish every. Single. Second. Cus one they day, they will just be gone. Love your big Bernard, until it’s time. Love their snoring, drooling, forgetfulness, all of sudden barking even though nothing is there. Sorry if sound like downer, but every time I see somebody mentions a older dog I get emotional…

When I was little we had a st Bernard called goliath (gilly for short) anyway we had a 100ft garden with a chain link face all the way down one side. My dad (in his infinite wisdom) decided he was going to bath gilly and tied him to the fence. Gilly loved water but took umbridge at being tied to a fence, he took off and took the fence with him 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Same here. A St. Bernard is definitely one of the breeds I've wanted since I watched "Beethoven" and "Beethoven's 2nd" as a kid. Chubby was my favorite of the litter from the second movie. They're so cute and fluffy!
Our mechanic has a rescue St. Bernard named Abbie. She stays behind the counter, but is always willing to come over to the gate for some scritches and being loved on whenever I take one of my cars in. I love her but I will say, she’s huge! But she’s also just the sweetest thing ever!

When I was a kid 50 years ago grandpa had two fully grown St. Bernard's, a male and female, named Barney and Lottie. My sister and I would ride them like horses since we were only 4 or 5. They were good tempered and gentle around kids. Loveable dogs that wouldn't hurt a flea.

One of my best friends growing up had Saint Bernards they were some of the biggest and smelliest dogs I've ever known but total sweethearts, and after my friend stopped having Saint Bernards as pets he and his mother still took them in as rescues and help to rehabilitate them or home them until they could find a forever home I have honestly never seen a more docile dog breed in My Life

St Bernard puppies are so special!! When I was in 4th grade, my teacher got a St Bernard puppy and she used to bring him to school every so often as a treat for us. He liked to lay under my desk and chew on my crocs at the time, and was generally just an adorable ball of chunk
