hi, i'm alana! i'm a 24 year-old content creator who loves watching anime and movies/tv shows. aside from uploading reaction content, find me streaming on twitch 3 days a week! / alanamisako
When you realize that Himmel fell in love with Frieren during the first night they met, a elf that shines a light in his darkest moment, by Flamme's favorite magic, which resulted hero triumphs demon king and human era, it's all connected.
Absolutely. Himmel loved her from that *very* moment.
flower spell was the spell that defeated the demon king. Fitting spell for a peaceful era.
Just realized Himmel loved flowers so much bc of that spell, He learned the language of flowers, wants to show Frieren the the blue moon flower in his hometown, the flower crowns ugh i love this show so much and credit to the writer, she made such a beautiful story and to the animators who brought it to life
you can imagine how much mana Serie has, when Serie conceals her mana has the same size as Frieren when she releases all the mana she has
So many people ive seen from reaction vids did not understand this.
To be fair, it took maybe second time to watch this episode, to realize that.
@@hendrikworung1967 yes, sometimes I also miss some things
or maybe, serie cant supress it like frieren does.
@@zeroblank9067 No. If anything, Serie supresses it better. So Lernen cant see it even though he can see Frieren is suppressing. Only Fern could see that Series is suppressing
"You pass" she said to a human mage as she was moving in a garden made with a spell that creates flowers, while her concealing mana was flunctuating
After seeing this episode go back to the second episode and see the look on Himmel’s face when Frieren casts the spell that produces the field of flowers 😭 absolutely top tier anime.
Everyone else is amazed, and he is happily nostalgic.
and at the first ep right after himmel's funeral, frieren kept looking at the ring
First half of episode 27, Serie: I should never take on human disciples.
Second half of episode 27, Serie: Fern, become my disciple.
Also Fern asked by Richter if she's a student of Frieren: hesitates and doesn't say anything
The next day when asked by Serie to be her student: "I'm Ms Frieren's student"
These tsundares😂,, i can't😂
@@pd209458to be fair, how much do you think Fern knows about Richter other than that he was willing to kill Kanne and Lawine during the first test
Yeah Serie seems like the type who likes to complain about stuff like that. Like taking on Flamme as a student and then complaining about her lol.
@@codysteele3499 I don't think that's the case. 1. At the beginning Richter asked "Are You Frieren's kid?" and she nodded. She only hesitated after the following question if she's her student.
2. Fern had no problems talking to Wirbel couple of days before, despite the bad opinion she had about him as well.
"The anime added a contrast in that: when Fern was upset with Frieren earlier on, when Richter asked her whether she was Frieren's student she was silent and Stark had to answer for her. After Frieren fixed her staff she realized that Frieren really cared for her and that led to her saying loud and proud to Serie that she's Frieren's student."
1. Flamme's Flower
Star of Bethlehem
When Celia mentioned the flower Flamel was fond of as boring magic, it was the same flower Flamme admired in her memories.
Language of flowers: Talent, purity, innocence
2. Himmel's Flower
Marguerite
Language of flowers:
Yellow marguerite represents "beauty," pink signifies "true love," and the most recurring white in the film represents "hidden love."
3. The Flower Serie Wants to Convince Fern to Become Her Disciple
Lupinus
Language of flowers: Imagination, greed, maternal love
A good rule of thumb for Series character, don't trust what she says, she is a tsundere to the utmost degree. Mana concealment is useless, but she does it herself, and has done for a LONG time. Her being disappointed in her human students, while true to a degree, it's just because they're shortlived and can't reach her level, but she truly does care for them all.
She's arrogant and prideful, but she if anyone, has the right to be. Probably the oldest living person, and the most powerful.
@@Tyhar93 They finished the show weeks ago, so it's impossible to spoil on anything but the manga.
Serei is the literary foil to Ferien.
She was saying Mana concealment is useless to humans because, unless you have a natural skill for it (like Flamme and Fern) it takes too long for humans to master it.
Thats the thing about seerie, her consealed mana is equal to frierens actual mana... Thats just how powerful she is. And thats to be expected, she has been alive for way longer than frieren.
She has been suppressing mana since from before Frieren was born and she most likely thought it to Flamme. I think it even works better for her, as she has so much mana even when concealing her true mana that nobody would even think about it. Frieren and Feren pretends to be weak, but Serie pretends to a mage with so much mana that nobody has seen anything like it, and they just froze in place a lot of the time. In reality her mana is most likely beyond what most mages can even imagine.
“The whole secret lies in confusing the enemy, so that he cannot fathom our real intent.”
I believe that since Serie's mana is fluctuating, it means she is suppressing her actual mana. If this is true, her suppressed mana is equal to Frierens total mana.
That's exactly what it means and why Fern was in awe when she saw it fluctuating. Serie is incredibly ancient. I believe they mentioned that she's the only mage who has gotten close to the Goddess of old in power. Serie is a monster.
Well duh she's from the mythical age
@@dearikj90 She's the only character confirmed to be from the mythical era (when the Goddess was on earth), so yeah she's op xD
Oh we'll see Serei fight in the next season and she's is absolutely busted OP. She just keeps letting her opponent sling spells at her bc she enjoys seeing spells lol
Think of Serie as a disappointed mother, who sees all the potential and possibilities in her daughter, that she could become a doctor or scientist, but then the kid wants to be a CZcamsr (just kidding 😉).
Serie thinks Frieren, as a highly talented elf, could have become alomst as powerful as her in that time, but instead she spent her time in the woods, searching for "useless" spells.
That bothers her. Really an absolutely imteresting character 🙂
Love this description
Fern's entrance with her typical pouting face was so on-brand but still so adorable. I like that she went to Stark to confide her feelings.
Serie "doesn't believe in humans" when really she just wants to complain. I mean, she took on Flamme and complained about her after to Frieren lol.
"It looked like she was not concealing it at all" I had that exact thought. Then it hit me......that huge mana we saw WAS her concealing her mana......
Frieren and Fern pretends their mana is weak.
Serie pretends her mana to be of believable amount. I think her real mana is beyond what most mages can imagine.
After the moment Fern had around her staff, how Richter called her "Frieren's kid", and how proud she is of being Frieren's student, that ending song really hurts.
Frieren resting her head on Fern's grave thinking how it reminds her of laying on her lap. It's heartbreaking...
Wow I didn't haven't watched the Ed to the end and just did. I'm crying right now
When you realize that Himmel's love of flowers probably comes from that moment Frieren casted the field of flowers spell :O
the way they show Serie's dishonesty is so endearing
Would you say she acts like a child lol
Didn’t think it was possible to love this episode more than the last one, but the storytelling and the pacing was so delectable 🧑🍳👌💋
I was just as shocked as you when Richter apologized about the staff, but for good reason. In any other show that line would be a one-off quip that doesn't mean anything, but not in this show. That simple apology meant everything and developed character in a subtle manner. It's stuff like that that sets Frieren apart.
the most important spell in history, is the spell to create field of flowers.
Serie is suppressing her mana just the suppressed version looks like Frieren's not suppressed one...
Serie is also a master of suppressing her real feelings
@@arvinsimlmao
@@arvinsim But she is amateur in suppressing her tsundere.
My favourite part about this episode is the fact that Flamme's plan to defeat the demon king by suppressing mana failed. The Demon King saw through Frieren's mana at first glance. No, instead it was a spell for peace, a simple spell to create a field of flowers that brought together the ingredients needed to defeat the Demon King.
underrated comment
I mean, not really? Concealing mana was meant for any and all demons, not specifically for the Demon King. It let Frieren killed Aura, and many more demons we don't know about, that she could not have otherwise. The Demon King was an exception who was able to see through it at first glance. But yeah, its true that a field of flower was what brought together the 4 people required to defeat the Demon King.
@@FenrirLupo My point is that the ultimate end goal of Flamme's plan was to kill the Demon King. Not that the act of mana suppression is useless.
@@Syncratci Yes, and Flamme's actual plan was having Frieren kill the Demon King, which she states in ep 21, so...
Edit: What I mean is, you can't say Flamme's plan failed because it is not something she explicitly said and the actual plan was not really a failure since Frieren did end up killing the Demon King, albeit as a member of the party of four needed to do so.
@@FenrirLupo They're just saying that bringing the band together was more important than mana suppression in the end. And the flower spell achieved that end, and ultimately enabled the DK's destruction. Maybe someone else would've killed him eventually, but it probably wouldn't have been Himmel.
9:08 Ok, you're missing the essential point, here. Lernen saw the fluctuations in Frieren's mana, but not in Serie. Yet he said: "equal to yours". But he didn't realize that even Serie was hiding her mana, EVEN when it was already to such enormous level as Frieren was at her fullest (= about equal as Series when she's hiding her mana).
In short.... the enormous amount of mana you saw from Serie is only a fraction of her *actual* mana, because she, too, is hiding her mana, but to a level even Lernen isn't able to see through it. So, say both Elves, Frieren and Serie, hide their true mana and only show 1/10th of their actual mana, and Serie is showing about the same mana as Frieren at her actual, fullest mana.... that means Serie, in reality, has about ten times more mana than Frieren at full power!
Coupled with the fact she's a few thousands years older, and has far, far more spells learned, and she is, without any doubt, one of the strongest mages that roam this world. FAR stronger than even Frieren.
And now we know why Himmel understood "flower language" with the reverse lotus ring episode.
i can kind of understand why Serie seems so cold hearted. She takes on these students who become exceptional like Flamme and the old mage we see in this episode, but by the time they become truly exceptional they vanish from the world. It would be very painful if you allowed yourself to become fully attached to people who exist in only a moment of your life, but Frieren in her journey shows us how yes it is painful, but also rewarding to start to open yourself to others. And try as she may even Serie is not able to fully close herself off, if she did not care at all about these people she wouldn't be disappointed in them, or remember Flamme's favorite spell or imagine her as a child.
When Serie said that Frieren is relatively unskilled for her age, it's because Frieren has spent so much of her time training the suppression/concealment of her mana and to calm the fluctuations etc, to kill demons, because these are skills that are nominally not very useful as a mage when you could be training to increase your mana, your mana output or how fast you invoke your spells. Of course, the "relative" part is because even if Frieren spent most of her training suppressing her mana, the fact that she lives so much longer than humans means that even spending a little time training everything else she still has probably hundreds of years more training than any human in each of those other skills.
Of course, we know that these seemingly "useless" skills are useful exactly because her enemies almost always underestimate Frieren, particularly demons who can barely even grasp the concept that someone would do this. Serie is just considering how much more of a raw powerful mage Frieren would be if she spent all that time training to cast faster, more powerful spells.
And in the end, we don't even know what Serie is thinking when she's calling this practice a waste of time, or the flower field spell useless, because she uses both those things.
Frieren's and Fern's relationship is more than teacher and student. Its family.
Serie has been doing this "truly pointless thing" for so long that her supressed mana is same as Frierens full mana. Flamme was taught by Serie to do this and Flamme passed it down to Frieren. And Heiter and Frieren together to Fern.
serie is a extreme case of tsundere 😂
Serie isn’t really wrong frieren before himmel hasn’t done anything for hunderds of years she was literally wasting her potential in the eyes of serie so when she said frieren was unskilled makes a lot a sense
The waterworks hit hard this episode 😢 thank you for reacting. Heiter is my favorite character, his moments may not hit as hard as Himmel's but they mean so much to me.
Serie's concelaed mana is roughly the same size as Frieren's real mana. The fluctuations in her mana are so small and her mana is so huge that her students don't even consider that she might be suppressing it.
Serie doesn't have anything against humans. All her students are human. She's just pissed off that Frieren lacks ambition and chooses to, from her p.o.v., waste her talent instead of training to become as powerful as possible because she's got the time to do so, while her human students with talent and ambition lack the time to reach the level of power she wants them to reach. She's terrible at expressing what she means, but if you pay attention to what she says, her dialogue is carefully written so that it can be taken two ways but her tone of voice and demeanor is meant to trick the audience into thinking she means something bitchy by default.
Like when she told Lernen he was a disappointment, but she meant that it was too bad he was so powerful and had the potential to become even more powerful but he was old and wouldn't be able to realize that potential and training humans was frustrating to her because of that, but the way that interaction is written it seems like she was saying Lernen was a loser and training him was a waste of her time.
Now episode 2 when Frieren was looking for the flowers for Himmel holds a lot more weight retroactively. Himmel wanted to share the flowers of his hometown with Frieren since she shared flowers with him first.
We’re zooming through these reactions 😭
I like that Frieren respects Fern from the bottom of his heart.
Serie is just a big tsundere. Her actions doesnt match on things she says. Also Serie doesnt do mana concealing all her life probably started on or after Flammes era or when she started to manage Magic Association 50 yrs ago to test mages but she do it so well that only few could see its instability. Fern being one of them for a very young age her mana observation is higher than an old 1st class mage, she could reach the full potential for a human mage.
Heiter said she "has an aptitude for magic". That old bastard was underselling, big time.
wait, i've never been so early before, been waiting for your reaction and finally it is here !! I can relate to what you are feeling throughout this epsiode.
Such wonderful feels. Frieren fixing Fern's staff and the Himmel back story was so good. This instance is probably when Frieren commented an idiot complimented her on making the field of flowers as something beautiful to him. Magic when Himmel was younger was proabably mainly used by demons so it was probably feared by humans.
9:16 thats the point xD series Supressed mana is as big as frierens when she releases it.. thats also one of the reasons she calls her unskilled
When Stark faces dragon: 🤺🫤🩸🪓💥
When Stark faces Fern:😖🙏🧎🥹😭
The return of heartwarming Fwiewen episodes :'> There's a lot of tie ups and reveals in this episode, and it's probably just me and it's subtle, but I really liked that Himmel's cloak was inspired from Frieren's cloak in that childhood memory. Also great analogy already pointed out before but Himmel was lost gathering herbs and years later he recruited Frieren while she was gathering herbs (ep10 i think)
wow you almost done! Congrats on almost finishing your Frieren journey :)
Fern is the youngest third-class mage and now the youngest first-class mage.
No, Fern was the youngest to get a perfect score for the third-class exam. Not the youngest to ever get the qualification. We also don’t know if Ubel or Land are younger than her.
9:08 yeah she pretty much is concealing her mana and even if its concealed its so much
I recently got into reaction channels and I must say you're one of my favorites, I love going back and looking at your reactions! A shame you didn't react to Rengoku's death I would've liked to cried along side with you 💀🥲😔
Such a beautiful ep
I think it's noteworthy that while Frieren does believe in Fern, she also believes in Serie :) There are fascinating layers to her which i'm sure you already know after watching the finale. I hope we get more of her in the future
Learning this Himmel and Frieren backstory makes that moment when Frieren casts the flower spell of blue-moon weed around Himmels statue in the second episode hit a little harder.
Love your vids sis I be crying here with you 🤣🤣
After that Himmel scene, is it any surprise at all that Himmel learned the language of flowers?
The Flower spell is the most powerfull spell because it summons the party of heros
A "Useless Spell" that saved the world.
Serie: "I have a student called Lernen but he ain't learnin' fast enough!"
a flashback within a flashback! flashback-ception!
'It looked like she wasn't concealing it all' that's the point. Serie is so adept at concealing her mana that even Lernen who detected Frieren's tiny fluctuations has never detected Serie's - suggesting that Serie has far more mana than Frieren. So the mana she allows people to see is only a fraction of her true mana.
there needs to be a case study about how big of a tsundere serie is...
Every elf has a hobby, for Frieren it is picking up spells, Serie spent s lifetime pursuing the mastery of tsundereness.
Oh you gonna cry so hard in the last episode
when serie conceals mana that much mana still shows up thats craaaazy
other mages feared serie's mana
fern feared the fact that serie's suppressing her mana
You must watch ' Hokkaido girls are super adorable ' 😊
i cried hard in the last episode thats why it would be embarrassing if we meet again... 😂😭😭
AAAAAAAAAHHH its almost over 😭
Serie is concealing her mana, that was the concealed state.
Serie couldn't see the fluctuations Fern's mana.
oh she was concealing it all right her mana when concealed is equal to the full mana that frieren has. and Serie is a tsundere through and through.. she doesnt reveal her true feelings at all. this will be seen much more in the next episode. Then you will understand that behind the hard shell she actually cares.
not sure if anyone had ever said this to you, but you'd look great in a Fern cosplay, I think it suits you really well!
Ep. 27 Alana Cried
As always your videos are great, for romance comedy anime, I highly recommend (masion ikkoku), it is old anime but in terms of story and comedy is one of the best.
if Frieren wasn't taking the second test
Frieren's clone wouldn't be there either
so without Frieren, the second test will be easier
assuming the spiegel wouldnt put 4 strongest to guard the entrance....it doenst take long for the spiegel to replicate low mana people after they die if u realise....glad the spiegel is not op because it cant replicate frireren 1000 year worth of mana intstanly the moment frieren replica die...
Imagine a master setting up an exclusive scholarship that's reserved for hard studying elite students to go to good universities, only to have this old student that somehow already graduated from a top university to apply.
The master asked, "I know you, you're not the study type, and you already went to college. Not sure why you're here. But I'll give you one last chance: are you going to study hard now"
The student said "who cares about study. Not my favorite thing to do. YOLO".
The master said, "Truly useless. You fail."
The student said, "shrug. Who gives a monkey's ass about your lame scholarship in the first place."
The master said "I still cannot believe some lazy student like you somehow got into Harvard."
The student said "heh I had friends help. Friends? You know what that means?"
You think she will get that scholarship? You think she should get that scholarship? No.
It's more complicated and personal than that. Serie cares about Frieren a lot. Frieren is a talented, immortal mage. The perfect student, theoretically. Sense has polar opposite principles from Serie, but she's still a 1st class. It's because Frieren has no ambition and no interest in learning from Serie that she fails. The second part is as relevant as the first. It's only personal on Serie's side, though. Frieren doesn't like or dislike Serie. She respects, acknowledges the greatest, but takes no interest.
It's a well-written relationship, esp. for how little screentime it has.
@@djx7134 There is no indication that Serie cares about Frieren a lot, and Frieren is only talented when compared to non elf mages.
@@solarferretstone614 No indication, except how Serie is always the one asking for Frieren's attention (come walk with me) and trying to goad Frieren into talking/fighting (I can't believe someone like you defeated the demon king) even as Frieren was literally walking away.
Yep, Serie doesn't care at all. Definitely not.
What other elven mages are there, besides Frieren and Serie? We've seen none. None have received so much as a mention.
@@djx7134 In both of those cases Frieren was the one who went to Serie not the other way around. The Goddess is also an elf.
@@solarferretstone614 Frieren went to Serie because Flamme asked her to/brought her there. Or, in the case of the exam, Serie basically forced her to by placing the 1st class requirement on northward travel in the first place. Frieren wouldn't have bothered otherwise. And she's kind of a rule-follower anyway, even though she could probably get away with breaking them. Not that Frieren dislikes Serie, IMO, despite what Serie says/thinks. She just doesn't feel much in particular.
She tried to leave as soon as possible in every instance. It was Serie who tried to get her to stay longer.
As for the goddess, didn't she leave thousands of years ago? There were probably plenty of elves then, at least compared to present. Sort of irrelevant ...
Flower magic saved the world.
I really can’t decide if 26 is better than 27. Or equal in their own ways.
Yes - Frieren is relatively unskilled for her age. Remember in the dungeon when Fern exposed her fatal flaw - she loses the ability to detect mana momentarily when she casts - and she herself was embarrassed by a flaw that most beginners manage to work out relatively early in their careers... she apparently has more flaws than just this. And, as Serie said, because of the way Flamme trained Frieren - to spend all that time learning to suppress her mana - she has extreme control over her mana, perhaps too much in the grand scheme of things because she could have been working on other areas instead. However, just as Flamme trained her, as a result she's a demon-killing machine.
Wow I’ve never been so early b4 😂
Frieren full mana is Serie compress mana, yeah is crazy
there was a theory that Serie is strong enough to kill the Demon king alone but she doesnt have the intention to do so as she is a warmonger as shown in the flashbacks with Frieren, where she cant imagine a peaceful era as compared to Frieren.
SPOILER:
to scale how strong Serie is, She can take out the strongest member of the 7 Sages of destruction in an instant but chose not to. Even the Member of the 7 sages of destruction didn't detected her mana.
i was on a looking for a shade charcter while i was watching the show, there are no A-hole in this they all grew on me
Even Ubel is weirdly pleasant. We haven't really seen her even do anything wrong, unless you count luring bandits to kill. Even that second exam test guy, Burg, she killed by accident.
People are unrealistically kind in Frieren's world. Normally, I'd find it irritating, but it somehow fits.
I'm surprised so many people did not understand that Serie was concealing her mana. It's absolutely horrifying to think how incredibly huge it must be for her concealed mana to be equal to Frieren's actual mana.
Approx. 10x larger. Instead of filling the room, it would fill up entire buildings. I wonder if it would make the people around her nauseous or dizzy in some way. It is shown to have physical properties in and of itself, as it seems to move clothes, hair, etc. when channeled.
the massive mana you see fro serie is suppressed and yet so huge so you can imagine what it'll be unsuppressed
The split moment of sadness on Sarie face hurts me, the loneliness of the strongest. Again, she lost a chance to have a strong opponent
Also sarie and Frieren achieve each other wish, one want war but teaches ton of students; other one want peace, killed the most demon in recent history
I need also to point out.
But Frieren not seeing herself being a 1st class mage is because she doesn't want that live/job.
She's a pacifist not a warrior, we were told a few times in past episodes.
And that's why Serie and Frieren don't get along, Flamme explained it herself, Frieren is a mage of peace, Serie of conflict/war.
Frieren is powerful thanks to her long life and hard training BUT Serie is far older and trained in a aggressive progression for power and knowledge meaning she develop her mana for that reason; Frieren just for surviving and kill demons, she doesn't have ambition beyond that
Grandma Serie holding back.🤣
oh serie, you tsundere you! LUL
Serie is very tsundere
Frieren Full Mana is more or less equal to Serie's suppressed Mana
9:16 think again. what you said had the answer within. xD what do abnormal mana fluctuations mean? think xD
9:09 she is limiting her mana. she just has so much and done it for so long that others dont notice it and her limited mana is as much as frierens full mana
In case you didn t notice, serie s surpressed mana is frieren full mana, and for a reason i believe that lernen saw those fluctuations but kept silent about it, maybe he didn t want to be aknowledged by serie
Serie has lived TOO LONG and she experiences difficulty showing her emotions. People would call that a tsundere. I belive Serie is kind at heart, she just values magic on a very high degree and doesn't want just a random nobody to use it, hence why she is incredibly strict as to who becomes a first class mage because in her mind, this is when you are a "proper" mage.
she considered the issue for 1000 years and finally decided to do what Flamme asked her to do anyway
basically series concealed mana is relative to frierens non concealed mana. spoilers below
from what we know serie is the strongest mage alive right now and its by a lot
what a shame for not having word for посох
I've read the manga after I watched the whole anime, and boy, there's a lot to be excited if there's 0.01% of possibility for a season 2 😭But Madhouse is just mad for skipping every season 2 possibilities 😭😭

Serie: I'm done training humans
10 mins later: Fern, be my student
About why Serie decided to start suppressing her own mana, I'd theorize it's for two reasons. One to prove to herself she can do it as well as or better than Flamme and Frieren, and second to test other mages and see if any of them are capable enough to see through it. Despite having now agreed to Flamme's request to guide humanity's magic, she still only wants to teach humans with a lot of talent, and seeing through her mana suppression would be a huge display of talent.
Well my guess is she does it since the myth age and taught the spell to flamme
Nisekoi when
The reveal in this episode that serie’s suppressed mana is equal to frieren’s unsuppressed mana is insane. Serie must be absurdly busted in battle. She’d make frieren look like an apprentice.
And she Knows all the spells there is.
(This is not toward Alana, ok, cool.)
Why people have a hard time to understand Serie cancel her mana?
The ALL discussion is about it, it's on the face, word for word explained and it end with Serie just confirming the all flucation/hiding mana mean Serie is FAR more powerful than we saw.
Most people just take offence of Lernen being old and Serie saying she regrets training him(wich she actually don't regret) or focus on Frieren being put at a lower lvl of Serie, bc Serie explain Frieren is a basic mage (Frieren is a pacific mage, we were told many times) to/compare to her (Serie).
Idk lack of focus? or being distracted by their need to say their feelings toward Serie so they miss the last important bit? idk
Serie is a clichee tsundere. With the right spot in the heart. She get rly often misunderstanding, actually the only disappointment is the short life of Humans. Fern is the youngest first class mage ever, even lernen was a bit older, i guess. Or probably both become it at the same age.
