I was expecting him to call Matt and foggy a half measure/that what he does he doesn’t want half measures unlike Matt, something like that that could fit the scene and get across to him that Frank knows.
I don't mean to be mad, but I personally don't think Frank would do that. Frank & Matt both know that NY needs heroes & Frank has too much respect for Matt.

When I first saw this it was obvious that Frank figured it out but watching it now and paying more attention to Matt I suddenly get the feeling he wanted Frank to know
I think he did.
Someone pointed out that they originally thought Frank's reaction was from Matt's stupid opening question. "May I call you Frank?" when the guy's name is Frank Castle is a dumb question.
Matt may have done this on purpose as a power move.

@@chimpwimp9407 i don't know if it's a power move, per se, but Murdock has an insane attention to detail and knows Castle does too, though for different reasons.
i think since Matt's not Frank's "enemy", and while he may not approve of his methods, knows Castle is attempting to do the same thing he is in his own way, this was less of a power play and more him letting castle know he has a "friend" for lack of a better term, inside the courtroom. everyone else there wants to see him skinned and crucified, except Murdock.
after this clip, he basically says "We've heard all the testimony about how messed up in the head you are, but i just have one question, what happened the day your family was tragically killed?".
he was giving him a chance to tell his side, to set the record straight and play on the juror's emotions, while also being the only person in the courtroom that cares about WHY he did what he did, not just WHAT he did. frank spits in the face of this and tells Matt essentially "You don't know squat, kick rocks." at which point Murdock sighs and folds up his cane before asking permission to "treat the witness as hostile", before he essentially argues that Frank is a good man with noble intentions that took it too far, and tries to basically plant the seeds in the jury's minds for a light sentence and an insanity cop-out. but in typical fashion, Frank doesn't think he's broken, he thinks everyone else is, and the implication that he's weak or crazy is an offence he can't let stand, so he makes a scene and basically says "screw you, i'm not crazy, i did the right thing putting those scumbags in the ground and i'll do it again the minute you release me."
gotta love Castle's honesty, he basically shot himself in the foot and flipped the bird to the one guy trying to help him, just on of principle.
but yeah, i think he's trying to show frank who he really is so he knows he's trying to help, but if that "help" is telling the world he's nuts for doing the right thing(in his mind anyway) just to get him off the hook, Frank doesn't want or need that kind of "help", so he isn't receptive to it.
I love how realistic this is and the way how Frank reacts to hearing his voice. I never actually noticed this until I saw this clip lmao but now I have even more respect for this show for having in all these little yet huge details.
Jon bernthal is an amazing actor. Still waiting for MCU to reintroduce him, without changing how the punisher is .

Later in the Punisher series, he asks Karen if Matt knew what she was doing and told her to go to him for protection. It would be a weird thing for him to say about a blond lawyer but if he knows he’s Daredevil…
Subtlety is a dying art.
This adds to the realism of the show. A lot of supes don't disguise their voice and so many people that know them as a civilian act like they don't recognize their voice
especialy spiderman than in the mcu keeps getting off his mask for no reason...
I think that's mostly because most civilians won't hear their voice and even the chance of hearing it in the street out of costume, most would probably be like "was that!? No way..."

Jon Bernthal really has become one of my favorite actors. Dude is just so good at emoting often brutal emotions, and then does this perfectly.
Matt wanted him to know, so that his point about bad men needing a second chance hit harder to Frank, Matt being his defense lawyer and trying to convince him not to kill is what flew in Frank’s mind after Matt through’s that “I want you to know that I want you to know who I am” and Frank gives us this S class reaction
Crazy! This would also mean Matt could also hear Frank’s realization with from his hesitance to respond, heart beat shift, and understanding of human behavior. This scene looks like Matt processed that as Frank was. Great scene in a great show.
Jon bernthal has this weird amazing chemistry with British actors. Whether it’s Andrew Lincoln or Charlie Cox they all seem to bring the best out of each other’s performance.

Actually he noticed when they first approached him in the hospital. He was asleep til Matt called his name and he woke up and immediately stared directly at him. To which Matt then began to introduce his team and Frank interrupted him and said “Yeah…. Yeah I know who you are”. The room got quiet and Matt continued to introduce them all.
He meant he has heard about Matt and his friends being a lawyer.
Yeah they built their way from the ground up and had some pretty big names involved in their cases
Nah, what happened was Frank said “I know who you are”, then a moment later he said “You protect shitbags.” He was referencing his familiarity with Nelson & Murdock, the law firm. He didn’t figure out that Matt was Daredevil.
It makes sense for Frank not to connect the dots in the hospital. He was probably on sedatives or morphine, which definitely fogged up his brain a bit.
In the courtroom he’s thinking more clearly. That’s when he figures out who Matt is.

I LOVED Berenthal's version of FC. Previous adaptations never really portrayed how fuckin intelligent he is..this scene shows Frank isn't just a finger on a firearm but an actual tactician who can piece together shit
That's why I loved this show so much. The writers respected the intelligence of the viewers, leaving subtle hints for us to figure out and creating compelling yet grounded characters. No surprise the fandom is still strong several years later.

I love this because this is something I don’t remember if it’s ever explicitly said in the comics or not, but I assume like the show that Matt just uses his normal voice when in the daredevil suit because he has a mask. So someone like Frank Castle would absolutely pick up on that as he has regular run ins with both Matt Murdock and Daredevil.

But in the comics Frank was always keepin Murdock out of trouble until he got enlisted or somethin idk. Thats why when he comes as the punisher dare devil recognizes him.

I always found it unrealistic that super-heroes could go years without someone figuring out their secret. Matt was human and made mistakes in this show.
I can't think of a hero where someone didn't find out.
