I have a flex tail mini and I love it. I have had it for 2 years and it works great. It even came with a bag for all the adapters and you plug the usb right into the unit. It was about half the price. The advantage on this one seems to be the ease if you have to replace the battery. I would rate their products A+. Worth the money when you don't have to use your lungs on 2 or 3 pads!

I've had it over a year now and it's yet to break, or let me down in any way at all. Makes a very handy tent lantern that charges up quickly off the solar panel as well.

I received mine last week and I totally agree! It blows up my Thermarest Xtherm in a pinch over 60 sec's.....Love it
I have one of these and am so far pretty impressed. The one thing I picked up on was the slightly crunchy threads, but that's aluminium for you, they're often like that; I added a little silicon grease and it sorted it right out. As for CR123 batteries, they're very common here in Europe so no worries there.
Not including the battery in the advertised weight is like not including poles with the weight of a tent. Pump sack is lighter, faster, quieter, and more reliable.
I've had the original Flex tail Tiny Pump for several years and it's been great. Pumped my pad up every day for a week on a single charge.
The thought of it deflating my pad is even more attractive than inflating, although when you first get to high altitude, you can get dizzy from blowing on your pad.
The benifit to deflating...a sleeping pad m8ght actually fit in the bag supplied with it😅😅
I have been using flextail pumps for a good while now and they have all performed great. From their previous tiny pump to their bigger pumps for car camping needs - all great!
I have one of the earlier Flextail models and its never disappointed me. I really like the size and replaceable battery of this unit. But I'll keep using my older one until it dies; two years of solid service so far. Its all incredible compared to those old school ones that required to be plugged in or some I've seen which needed multiple D cell batteries.
It's a neat gizmo and I LOVE your channel but since I'm feeling cranky today I thought I'd comment by saying I honestly don't understand two trends in camping.
1. Timing everything. As if the clock is ticking on every possible activity on the trail. How quick to fill. How fast to boil. How long to prime. How long to charge. Rush rush rush rush rush. For what? What is it really that you make or break when saving a whole minute filling a sleeping pad? What did you really gain by improving your boil time by 20 seconds? So you can have even more time to do nothing between making camp and the sun setting? I honestly don't understand the orientation toward "speed" in relation to an activity that many do in order to "slow down".
2. More and more battery operated and electronic equipment in the backcountry. Powered stoves, powered pumps, powered screens, powered coolers, powered lights, portable chargers, portable solar panels. Screens screens screens....whir whir whir. Okay, a headlamp or torch I get. But most of it I don't. Maybe it's because I camp to get away from whirling motors and LED screens that just sorta think the words "camping electronics" is something of an oxymoron.
To me it all amounts to trying to bring with us, more and more of the hectic world we are trying to leave behind, even if only for a few precious nights.

Yes.. but not everyone gets out to the woods to get away from the world... to me, I rather have a few things that get the job done quicker and better than spending my time cursing and fussing. i mean - two stick together can start a fire.. but nothing wrong with a lighter or match to get things done quicker!
Thank you for reviewing this product and for your channel. I've purchased the Flextail and so far it seems like a great product. I've inflated every inflatable mattress I own in my living room. It'll definitely be going on my next back country canoe trip. This is the second product I've bought after watching your reviews so thank you. I probably would not have discovered either item on my own.
i think you also ommited one other advantage of this pump, a removable battery. other pumps have in-built ones. if the battery has a fault or degrades you have to buy a new pump. with this? you can just buy a regular battery or another rechargable one. Or if you are on a long trip, just bring multiple batteries, you don't have to recharge, just swap it out.It really justify the cost of it somewhat. real understated advantage.
They are back in stock on Amazon as of my post! I've had one for a year and it still works fine. I do wish they had installed a charging port on the outside of the housing but it's not a deal breaker IMO!! When they were out of stock on Amazon I ordered a spare from the companies website and it took over a month to get here...
I recently purchased the Max Pump 2 Pro and it works every time.
I absolutely love the Pro model. Allows me to leave my battery bank at home and overall saves me weight in my pack while adding functionality
I had a Mag Lite sound the same when I changed batteries and zoom in and out. Place a drop of oil on the threads. Work it a bit then wipe off excess. Worked for me.

This is something I could use and need! So compact! I would only change one thing, I would make the removable nozzles orange or bright green, as they are so small they would be easy to loose on the ground, with leaves etc. I will getting one of these! Thanks!

I’m pretty sure the company, or at least the product, is still new. I believe this is there second edition. I know they where doing a kickstart last year, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the keep working to improve
I purchased this a month ago and had it packed. I couldn't figure out how to charge it. I now know to take the battery out and place it In my battery charger. Works perfectly. Bravo. I'll take this with me on my next motorcycle camping trip.
More stuff, more money, but it does look like a cool little gadget. 😎 Also, it would be great for Winter camping bc you're not going to fill that air mattress with warm air that would condense on the inside. 👍
I got the previous version and it was great, got it for my brother who has 2 young kids and he uses it a lot on pool inflatables for them. It's just nice to have a tiny pump to do a lot of stuff.
For the screw threads, try applying some lip balm ointment from a tub of Blistex or Burt's Bees or even a little Vaseline or some cork grease (musical wind instrument players). That will decrease friction and noise and will help further weather-seal the battery compartment.
They need to make a Presta nozzle for bikes.
Kent Survival from England has been using Flextail pumps for a while now. The little bigger ones also have a built in light. Seems to be a good product line.
The only "issue" I've had is when i tried to deflate one of my sleeping pads. It would suck out some air but then once it pulls out some of the air it would just suck in the pad liner. But that may just be pad specific. I tried holding the liner apart by the pump but didn't work. Not a deal breaker just means it works really well I guess 😄.
Its so light, the threads fot battery compartment needed a little WD40 to make it smooth to unscrew.😎👍
WD40 will not last long, better use some lithium grease.
We use space saver style vacuum bags when we travel. I'd love to see if this would work on those.
Had a flextailgear mini with the light option. Used it for years, became a core part of my hiking camp gear as it has 2 uses and just works brilliantly. This one seems like a backward step unless I’m missing something
Just a tip for those sticky aluminum threads, light a candle and drip one drop of wax onto the threads in two spots. This will lubricate the threads and they will operate smoothly.

I have one and am impressed with it.
I have no issues at all with my Pacoone airpump, which cost me 4 bugs only. Yes the chargeable battery is not easy to change, but buy the whole thing new if it some day fails doesnt hurt. Its Lightweight (130g) and has a integrated flashlight and USB-C port as it should be, absolutely happy with it.
Got mine a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it was faulty, but Flextail support have been fantastic.
I have the older version of this pump and have used it approximately 100 times , maybe even more . And yes I love it .

The word from other youtubers says that this pump often fails, and a few have had numerous pumps fail, so I have been rather hesitant to buy one myself.
Im not trying to convince anybody but I got it on a 20% initial sale and used it a lot. Never failed me. But what’s the issue anyways? If it fails, blow up the the bed yourself with the inflation sack. The pump is a luxury item and it’s nice to have. Not a necessity to go outdoors although anyone is trying to tell you otherwise. I take my pump and my pumpsacks for redundancy. And it’s hardly something I’d take on a thru hike for it is a battery powered item after all
Most of the CZcamsrs that have the fails are using a prototype. Not the one for sale to the general public. I got one and it’s awesome. Used it atleast 20 times. No failures.

You can buy rechargeable 123a batteries with built in USB C port from Nitecore and REI (Pale Blue -set of 4) or a built in micro USB PORT FROM Fenix. All have a higher maH rating than the one that comes with the pump.
Tested on my Xtherm. Works fine inflating and deflating. I used a small amount of Teflon grease on the threads. Aluminum against aluminum is not good without some kind of lubricant. We shall see how long this pump lasts. I have another Flextail and it has been reliable.
I have the Tiny Pump and the Zero Pump. I love the Zero that I got off Indigogo and it drops some weight and space. I only bring the attachments I need. No light and no reverse charge. I also bought a reusable battery charger. Didn't take much to keep a back up recharble battery that lasts pretty long and juiced. I prefer the Zero.
I ordered the Zero Pump direct from Flextail back in January when it was a little less expensive. Haven't had a chance to use it in the field yet. A little silicon grease on the threads solves the metal to metal squeeling issue. I do the some for my flashlights.
I'm tempted to cut off the rubber lanyards from the adapters. I think they are to keep the adapter attached to the mattress. I just don't like them.

Another member who got one last year. Love this pump. Caveats; as you said it won't pump to the firmness some people like (me included). The biggest gripe I have so far is for the price point, couldn't they have included some sort of travel/carry bag? I mean you have the pump, and all the nozzles and maybe you would like to bring an extra battery or maybe the charger and cable. All in the details, all in the details.
seen a chap do a test with these mini pumps, turned out the inflation bag was ten seconds faster. life

The 123 battery can be replaced with a one time use battery which it available in most battery suppliers like Walmart for about $6-$8 dollars. I have flashlights that require them. Carried in 2, 4 and I believe it was 8 or 10 packs! The 123 rechargeable battery is a new product noted by the " USB C" connection

I have a Flextail TIny 2, and love it so far. At just under 4oz, it's over twice the weight of this one, but, it also has a latern built in. Overall, now I have a lamp and pump, so I don't have to the combined weight would be less in total.
I got mine too! Using it with my big agnes rapide sl and it's awesome! B1 attachment works perfect.
Very handy device. I have the older version and I keep it packed in my emergency kit.
CR123A battery.. pretty easy to find in Finland and it works especially well in cold conditions.
I have 2 and they have never failed on me
After working on MR systems for 39 years, I’ve found that putting a small amount of lithium (pure lithium grease) on aluminum to aluminum threads will stop the galling. After mating the two parts about 10 times, clean the threads with an IPA soaked rag, and get them clean, dry the threads and apply a little lithium grease. 15 minutes of maintenance on the threads and they will never gall again.
I like that the battery is removable, could also probably put a larger mah battery in it if you needed more runtime, can't imagine why though haha.
Looks pretty good and I can imagine it being handy if you're setting up a new camp each night or multiple pads to inflate. As you mentioned I can see the best advantage would be the deflation, instead of fighting with the pad when trying to pack it back up.
I do have one question (maybe), does the air blow through the battery compartment or something? That battery compartment seems very loose around the battery which can cause the battery to not make contact correctly.
I do wish they had used an 18650 battery instead, but then it wouldn't be as small, but the battery would be more available. While the CR123A battery is fairly common, its seen more in the tactical world. Additionally, the Rechargeable (RCR123A)'s are not always the same, though that may have improved over the years since I was encountering that problem. Given their choice of battery though, I'm glad they went with a single RCr123A with the integrated charge port (though one integrated into the unit would be just as nice). This shows they are thinking about the customer and how it would be used. With all the electronics we tend to keep with us these days, it would be easy to keep it in service from a powerbank if you're on a long trip and need to recharge.

It takes a LONG time to receive the Zero pump if you buy it directly from Flextail which is located in Hong Kong. However, Garage Grown Gear just started selling them last week and my Zero arrived quickly. Last night I tried inflating my three sleeping pads and it worked on ALL three different brands with Thermarest NeoAir being the fastest. They all required different adapters but Flextail provided 6 choices and they all worked perfectly including deflating the pad quickly which is a real bonus.
Much better to buy from a retailer like Garage Grown than from a monster like Amazon. I wish he wouldn't emphasize Amazon and Temu so much.

I got mine several months ago. I ordered mine through an Indygogo campaign back in September. You pointed out the only complaint I had. The crunchy and squeaky threads of the battery cap, but a very small drop of Breakfree CLP fixed that. Now she's buttery smooth!
This pump was a no-brainer for me. Firstly, it's rechargeable but has a removable battery. The fact that it uses CR123 batteries was an instant selling point for me, as I already carry about a half dozen of those in Thrym cell vaults for emergencies, such as when the rechargeable 18650 batteries in my Streamlight flashlights get too cold, I have those disposable lithium(LiMnO2) CR123 batteries on standby.

Couple issues I can see in the Amazon reviews are that the included battery is crap, there is at least 1 review saying the button fell into the body of the device, and many complaining about the soft aluminum and how easy it is to cross thread the battery cap.

Great review! I wonder if one day they would add a lantern on one end of it. It legit takes no weight because they could reduce some plastic and add the lantern. All people need is one hour of lantern power before they go to sleep outdoors. The Flextail Tiny 2x has like 8 hours of light, so I’m sure this zero pump can support 1 hour of light.
Hey one could use that in the kitchen getting air outa the food bags and the storage bags.
Got a similar one now, and noticed one thing about it: The Pump heats up very quickly, so the air comes out slightly warm.
Might be quite nice during colder weather, so the sleeping pad isn't as cold.
The problem is that hot air has more volume, when it cools down and it will, the mat will not be as inflated, and you will end up touching the ground.

Luke, I got this pump and it seems pretty good. I noticed the threads being a bit rough as well. Spot on review.
Put a little Aluminium Anti-Seize Compound on the threads, that helped for me. Screwing Alu into Alu is often rough.

Filling slower while could be true it's also misleading because you have to do the pump sack while this is going you can do something else. So it would speed up your set up, and it deflates which a sack doesn't.
@@Derchlands - That's a good point. I once said the exact same thing about dishwashers to someone who said they could wash dishes faster and more thouroughly than a machine.
Recently discovered your channel, great content! There are some 800mAH 123 batteries available internationally and for North America on Amazon that aren't too expensive, I have yet to charge the batteries and have used it quite a few times for my pad as and as bellows to really get the fire going.
I've mine since january and had the thread issue, too. I solved with just a bit of silicone grease. My Therm-a-Rest is filled perfectly by the pump alone. No mouth work afterwards neccessary. There's absolute no problem to get a Li-Ion 123 cell here, but w/o the charging port. But any cheap charger with magnetic contacts solves this problem easily. And the cell fits into my O-Light headlamp, too.
Which olight headlamp? I've got a few Perun 2 Minis and they're decent lights.

Got mine for $27 as a day1 indiegogo backer. It is a nice addition to my ultralight backpack setup. Wish they had skipped the battery entirely and just used a USB-C to power it. It could have been smaller, lighter, and cheaper. I carry a battery bank with a 100W USB-C port that would power this just fine as well as recharging my Steam Deck and DJI mini.
Its quite cold in the UK so physically pumping it warms you up

You HAD me at replaceable battery. I'll support most any product that lets me replace the battery when it stops holding a charge. I always thought batteries that couldn't be replaced was a dirty tactic to sell more units.
I bought one through the indiegogo campaign. It was supposed to ship in November 2023, then December, then early February, then late February.... They sent me an email saying it was shipped but it was a bogus shipping number. Still haven't recieved mine but they can ship one to every youtuber.
It's a good little pump if you're trying to save space and/or weight. I find the larger version (Flextail Zero) to be far superior though.

I have this pump and it works great on my Big Agnes Rapide XL
Small and light is not always better. A lighter tent means thinner fabric. A lighter air-pad means it pops easier. A smaller pump means a smaller fan and a smaller motor and a smaller battery. Once you put a battery inside, you need to further reduce the motor's size making it weaker. You need to reduce the size of the fan, making it weaker. AND those batteries are hard to find and very expensive.
I will take a pump that needs an external battery (which I am taking anyway) so the inside of the pump can have a larger fan and larger motor.
I realize that this Flextail works, but the requirement for the smaller fan and smaller motor and the rare battery concern me.
Grab a little tube of white lithium grease and put a thin layer on the threads.
First, let me say that I really appreciate your videos and reviews. They are greatly appreciated. I just happen to own one of these FlexTail Zero pumps (I got thru Indiegog promotions, pre-market), and I am pleased with it as well. One thing I found to get around the what sounds like a scrapping threads when accessing the battery compartment is, take off the end to open the battery compartment, take a towel or rag with just a bit of 3-in1 Oil and wipe it over the female and male threaded ends. Then line up the cap and pump and thread on the cap outlet end. It goes on smoothly. Of course items made with aluminum the threads seem to be fragile or easy to cross thread. The manner I described is a way to eliminate this. God bless the both of you.
I put silicon grease on all my flashlight threads and seals. Sounds like this thing needs some as well.
I bought a Flextail Zero Pump recently.
The threads to open and close the battery housing were very rough and gritty. At one point the aluminium chips and dust generated from opening and closing the pump caused the housing to jam halfway closed, although there was still battery contact with the circuit.
Upon further inspection, opening and closing the device resulted in a huge amount of aluminium debris being generated. Aluminium dust is very flammable, and I am worried that generating a flammable material inside an electrical device that is blowing a lot of oxygen past it, while inflating flammable mats and pillows inside flammable tents is a recipe for disaster.
Game changer!!
