Apple needs to start allowing official downgrades. An older device would still be great for simple task like web browsing, viewing documents, or consuming content.
Idk, the older you go the less website support you get
But, but, but...... Apple supports their products of OS updates for a lot longer!!!!!!! More, like they know that a certain one is essentially going to make a unit useless and force you to buy new to stay on the Apple Plantation.
That brings security issues, what's stopping someone downgrading your device to get around serious big fixes? Apple keeps things simple for those who don't think about security
@@user-bb7eq7vy3f By making the device useless so they have to buy a new one?
But how will they sell newer devices if they don't slow down or brick older devices? 🤣🤣
It's amazing how many devices one person uses and manages to mess up all of them.
When daddy pays for it so you don't have any sense of value for it.
These are old obsolete devices, anyways
@@rostyc Not at the moment they were bought.
@@patrickreuvekamp exept the MacBook, it’s unknown when those devices were broken
I have so many devices and never cracked or broken any. It’s not that hard just take care of them. Knowing he got the lot for free the person that used these devices probably are not interested into the tech space.
The ultrasonic cleaner that Rossmann recommends (I think he even sells it occasionally on his online store) can often single-handedly fix water damaged MacBooks with no further board repair depending on the extent of the damage. I’d highly recommend picking one up, it’s been a complete game changer at the repair shop I work at.
This! Great advice
In my 22 years of life the ONLY device I’ve ever broken was my first 3DS, which fell out of my pocket and was promptly run over once. I find it hard to imagine someone breaking this many devices, like how does that even happen
I managed to crack my Huawei P8's screen back in the day by accidentally dropping it. To me, its design has been so slick and perfect that I had stopped using a case about two years prior to that. In my eyes it would have been a shame to hide such a beautifully designed device in a thick, ugly rubber case 😅
Long story short: Shit happens, bought a new screen for about 50€, replaced the cracked one and continued using phone for almost three more years (still w/o case)🙂
I'm a little surprised you didn't mention asking if she wanted the data off the ones that booted, especially the 4 which she's been hanging onto for some odd reason and which didn't need much love to light up. Good haul, though, and better to a tech than into the waste stream.
he probably did ask
I've found a 2009 macbook pro at a dump. It was thrown away due to 1 bad drive and water damage. I removed the corrosion and thankfully the motherboard works completely fine. The DVD slot was replaced for a secondary drive and it was an SSD. That SSD was working fine but then it suddenly just gave up fully so the water most likely did it's job there. I replaced both the drives and it works very well! even the original battery is in very good condition, 86% health left according to numerous battery testing apps.
I got a 15” 2009 MacBook Pro on eBay for $40. Works besides the sleep sensor always being active. I just unplugged it and the laptop is fully usable(it’s also missing the hard drive screws)
I got my hands on a iPhone 4s running iOS 6, and managed to get angry birds Star Wars working on it, the memories that brought back
Its possible to downgrade the 4s to ios 6 btw
fun fact the 2015 and 2017 i7 macbook air use the same CPU, and are therefore pretty much identical machines. overall you got yourself a nice lil macbook there, as long as you can fix it. that board has quite a bit of corrosion but most of it should brush away. You'll need to replace the lcd connector and maybe other components in the backlight circuit, I look forward to when you'll get around to it. Thanks for the video
Tip, I had the 1st gen ipad mini, there is a simple way to "downgrade" it to iOS 6... Then the update process goes through iOS 9 as an step to go to latest version available (10?)... But iOS 9 is very usable! You can install an OTA profile to prevent any further update...
I said downgrade... You make apple servers believe that you ar in iOS 6... But you aren't. Then itunes/ipad tries to upgrade from there, as I said first to iOS 9, and then to the latest
Respect for the DankPods style thumbnail
Love people who look after their expensive tech
Fried backlight can be fixed by rewiring broken traces directly from voltage regulators/ICs to the connector
Your videos are wonderful, and you are legit a genius! 😊
I'm watching your video on my mid 2015 MacBook Pro. The MacBook travelled several times around the world, I'm using it many hours every day but it still looks brand new: no scratches, everything works flawless... I never dropped or scratched one of my many iPhones. I will never understand why people do not take better care of items worth hundreds or even thousands of $$$...
That AirPods box is one apple sends when you get them replaced under warranty 👍
I just watched this video on one of your previous fixes the 2011 21.5-inch iMac that I purchased from your store which is still working well
There’s the video I was looking for!
Great video, I enjoy it when I see the Apple stuff on this video!
I enjoy watching these bro....hailing you all the way from jamaica
if pin #1 and #2 are shortened out by the water damage, it will probably result in 50V went directly to CPU and frying it off. Very known problem with MacBook's. It is even recommended to take a new MacBook that you just bought from an Apple to a technician, to put a water protecting coating in this connector and few other places.
but this was something from the usb-c macbook era
@@Miguel-fm8xh not exactly, unprotected CPU is a problem from 2012 , I think. Usb-c is just more sensitive to high voltage
Think Differently
she was nice for giving this to you
Nice! I bet there’s a lot of spare parts there that might be useful for future repairs and such or can be sold!
good joke
I can help you out, with the apple watch! I do LCD refurbish myself, changing the glass and removing touch, I can apply a new glass with touch, and have a brand new watch
Crazy how some people just don’t take care of their stuff. I have an old MacBook Air I bought back in 2013 that’s in perfect condition. My old iPhone 4S that’s still in great shape, as well as an iPad, Apple Watch Series 1, all working. Only device I’ve broken was my iPhone 6 that my daughter dropped on the floor at target years ago. It’s really easy to not destroy every thing you own; I don’t even run cases on my phone anymore.
True: M/Pro late 2011 , 2 Ipads , 2 Iphones 5+6 all working . God knows what other stuff they waste and break then
Just found an iPhone XR on the side of the road earlier today during a walk of mine. I was inspired by this channel to fix it. It was covered in ice and was clearly run over a few times... Currently I've been able to get the screen to light up and connect to 3Utools on a PC, looking to see if I can find the original owner.
If there is a sim then try that in a different phone to see if any contacts are saved to it and you can find out the number of that sim and then call or text it to see if the owner got a new sim with the same number.
@@Alexander_l322 Yeah, that's the plan already.
I would be careful using 3Utools considering it runs in the background and does all types of shit to and with your data
I found an iPhone 5s on the side of the road and it worked fine and didn't have a person's icloud on it but the device was water damaged
that iPhone made me remember me first watching you when you were restoring iPhone 4 phones, so cool
With how Apple insists on having the high-voltage backlight trace on the display connector right next to signal lines to the CPU/GPU instead of a ground, there's a good chance that the IGP in that MacBook Air is also fried.
So sad how Apple is basically the king of e-waste at this point.
And they say “we will no longer sell iPhones with chargers buy your own”
Those resealable monster can stickers where a product of that era, I had one on my belt buckle and the metal is still tarnished to this day lol
Love people who look after their expensive tech. Getting one free apple box is already a win for me.
Issue with the Power book is that the backlight high voltage pin in the display connector is just next to a pin that goes directly to the processor and sometimes i this cases it kills the computer for ever.
not on a1466
There needs to be a psychological study on 2 groups of people: the ones who’s new phone screen is ALWAYS smashed within the first month and the ones, who’s phones look like new 10 years later. It can’t just be carelessness and always makes me a bit sad to see so many shattered displays 😢
I never had a smashed display. Every iphone i had was in perfect almost new condition. Currently using the 12 for a few months which doesn't even have a single scratch.
My apple watch series 3 is still in perfect condition, but has to be replaced soon as the display is now too smal for my fingers and its staring to get very slow.
@@v31.48 do you use screen protectors and screen guards?
I don't understand how do you end up smashing all of your devices just like that. I've been using the same MacBook for almost 9 years now. And I haven't repaired it even once. Well, it does need it's battery changed, but otherwise it is perfectly fine.
And I've also had several Samsung phones, which I've used for 5-6 years each.
The iPhone 4 brings me back sooooo many memories, that phone was so revolutionary and nostalgic when it came out.
my laptop has a removable battery, its also 9 years old. ive kept the OS very clean tho and only use it for remote desktop so it works. its had stuff spilled on it twice, you would never be able to tell, it works perfectly (the battery was disconnected both times)
Oh yeah, I have a old laptop and it's bulky enough to be used for violence. I dropped it on my toe and my toe broke while the laptop survived. It's also what I call a frankenlaptop because it's ourely made from salvaged parts
The thumbnail got me thinking this was a DankPods video
i love your stuff bro, your ther entire reason i fix tech you are my insparation bro. i am so grateful i found you
Hugh many CZcams Videos are there how to Fix the Macbook.... It's basically cleaning and testing for shorts etc. You can do it. Life is Learning and getting better and better.
Phone Repair Guru made a video about replacing airpod batteries, you have to open them from the bottom metal piece and unsolder the battery
Would it help to put the mainboard into a bath of IPA to get rid of the corrosion to some extent?
If it was mine I would put some vinegar where there's oxidation and use a brush to clean it off,or would leave it soaked for a while and then rinse it with isopropyl alcohol. But more than likely she had plugged it and it fried the charging circuit and you wil have to test the board with a multimeter or even one of those freezing sprays that show which area is getting warm and shorted...
Getting one free apple box is already a win for me
The AirPods box does look like an Apple box! They send you these plain white boxes when you submit a support request and they want you to ship your device for a repair
The MacBook will be great to keep for a damaged case but good internals. It’s pretty mint.
its 1am but a new hugh jefferys video came out so I've gotta watch it
Try an ultrasonic cleaner for the water damaged logic board
Please make more videos about tablet repair, there are many about iPhone and other Android.
8:30 just buy an ultrasonic cleaner and watch Louis Rossmann's video on how to fix backlight on Macbook :) With this amount of corrosion you might have other issues too, but I would give it a try!
I was eager for the devices to be repaired. Now I’ll have to wait for some repair.
That AirPods. Ox is a real apple box but it’s the box from an apple care mail in service hence the lack of space for charger and paperwork etc
Hey Hugh, I didn’t know how else to contact you but I have a quite serious question, my mums Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is being weird just lately, crashes/freezes/lags/warms up really quick and battery drains really quick, so one of the things I tried doing is going into the phones boot-loader to clear the system cache and run some tests from there, but I can’t actually get into the bootloader! When I power the phone off, I’ve tried the volume up and power button together, the volume down and power button together and also both volume buttons and the power button together but I can’t get into it, do you mind if you could look into this and try yourself because honestly the S22 ultras system is so weird!
Hi if it’s still not too late. With the newer Samsung phones you can’t get into the boot loader without connecting to a laptop with your usb c cable first. I’m not sure about software needed but do a quick google search along lines of “s22 boot loader plug in laptop?”
let’s hope so
Nice video Hugh.
Is the iphone still availlable?
I remember ios 6 was signed for the iPad 2 in 2019, in fact I did that downgrade myself. Unfortunately it looks like it’s not signed anymore :(
I thought that thumbnail was a DankPods thumbnail!
Apple are great at filling up electronic recycle center's.
Looks like it's time to call upon Louis Rossmann. Pretty sure he has a video on macbook of this model with the same problem.
You can try to do ultrasonic cleaner if the macbook air can still live
Wow this person was very hard on there stuff!😮😮
You've now for a heap of parts to help fix other glued together disposable shiny junk 👍😂
This is an insight into the millions of tonnes of broken, virtually unrepairable Apple toxic waste.
when I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was dankpods, great video tho!
All your video is just nice
Stuff like this makes me happy to own a thinkpad
Nice stuff
Those monster stickers just click in my mind like ya they were the emo/scene kid back then cause we all had those monsters stickers allover our stuff.
What can we do with these old ipads if not throw them away are they of any use? As I have an iPad mini stuck on 9.3.6??
Can I get or buy the iPhone 4? I have a fully functioning one but its battery connector was ripped off during a repair 😔 am not a collector but I love the little buddy so much and would like to keep it for a little longer
I havenr watched this video yet but I know it's good
Airpods were serviced and came in this plain white box. What's what they do when servicing at AAPL.
The symbols that are marked inside the lid of the airpods case when opening it does not look the same as a genuine set of airpods, the serial number doesnt seem to be present.. could be clones?
The Iphone 4 looks like it's been in a war. Amazing how people treat their stuff :(
The more i watch your repair videos the more i want to try fix some things but i'm afraid of damaging them further. I have iphone 7 with really old battery (78%), same as samsung s9 - same old battery and cracked glass in the corner.
Send them to me 😉
I've replaced an iPhone 7 battery before, and it isn't that bad.
have fun fixing the s9 lol youll need to sell a kidne
@@karmakaze9972 yup s9 will be hard
Thats actually pretty good
i have an addiction for old iPhones like the 4 and 4S
one thing I would try for the MacBook airs is soaking the motherboard in isopropyl alcohol for a while and using a toothbrush to get rid of the corrosion
Until you knock parts off
@@KentRoads you just haft to be really careful is what I found out from experience
Hello Hugh
How do you get round a apple iPhone, or iPad that has been locked ??
Can't tell that iPad 2 is slow, even running it on iOS 9.3.5 i have troubles only in some games, which caused by them, not by system. The latest fruit ninja, that available for this device in appstore is very very lagging, but the older version of FN from internet is running pretty good.
Ofcourse this old tablet not so useful, but can be used for some fun, my own being used as second display for pc, tool for lite drawing and oldschool mobile gaming (temple run, geometry dash, etc.)
can i ask a question , my ipad needs to connect to itunes to fix it so i connected it to my laptop it didnt work because my ipad has never accepted permission for my laptop , what should i do
Hey! I know this might sound wierd but im 14 years old boy from finland and i am interested in older apple stuff and stuff and phone repairing so could there be any chanche that i could get the iphone 4? Thank you!
(I love ur videos)
My friend's daughter bought a Macbook Air to me to have a look at as it stopped charging. Her cat had laid on the keyboard and urinated on it :(
I keep all my packing/ boxes 😂
Back in 2012, I spilled an entire bottle of soda onto the keyboard of my MacBook. I turned the computer off, but it wouldn't reboot. Inexplicably, I powered it up a few years ago and it works perfectly, again. The battery, however, is toast. Go figure.
Search Louis Rossmann in regards to backlight repair.
It's just a backlight, replace the filter caps and there you go. The water damage? Drop the mobo in alcohol and leave it there for as long as you want. When you'll take it out, it might just work. Fixed cockroach house and water damaged laptops using only water in some cases.
So when you doing a collab with Louis Rossmann for fix the laptops?
Well used tech 😁
I managed to repair my LG G3 that startet going crazy after water damage by soaking the motherboard in toilet detergent, washing it with a toothbrush and generously rinsing with warm tap water. I let it dry overnight and the phone came back to life. I don't recommend this method but it has a chance to save this MacBook. Ps. The phone is still alive to this day
i never thought RICK ASTLEY was an TECHNICIAN
Still using an early 2015 macbook pro with identical specs as that air - going strong after 7 years. I love the keyboard on that thing.
Hugh what do you do with items you fixed????
Hugh Jeffreys do you think you can repair the 2012 iPad 2 in the next video please 🙏 😊
Can you do a tutorial on how to remove the passcode from an iPhone 4 specifically?
We need a hugh jefferys and psivewri collab
The iPhone 4 looks so nostalgic
Just sell the macbook air housing with keyboard and screen if the cable is fine
That’s awesome
I've got dankpods vibe coming from that thumbnail
I love how Hugh and Dank are the only Australian tech CZcamsrs I know and they both repair old devices but have very, very different methods and presentations.
Maybe Hugh can ship Dank this iPhone 4 because I want to see that repair video.
ive got a fully functioning iPhone 5S that i recovered from a trashcan (aside from battery problem, and it was a perfectly fine phone anyways.. Strange.) Its icloud locked. Is there anything i should do? How do i fix it? Im assuming it'd be awkward to shoot the previous owner a eMail asking them to unlock a phone they threw in the garbage.
5:14 With the case removed we are greeted with more monster stickers. lol
How does someone break that much stuff
watch Louis Rossmann, get soldering station and you can fix backlight issue and all issues.
If the liquid did not get one of the non replaceable chips... but this is a fairly robust model. Although... doesn't the backlight high voltage get really close to the datalines in that damaged connector? (Leading high voltage right into the processor 😬 )
@@Peter_A1466 yes, it does. Power lines are next to data line with direct connection to cpu so it sends 50 volts into 1 volt data line.
