Hope you make a video about the up and coming PVP server Nathan, There is some compiled info in the EQ2 Forums under the PVP TLE section, and also some info in Kander's latest Podcast, Kander was also in the Discord this morning asking people for ideas so its really cool they are including us for how the rulesets should go when it opens.

Looking like no guild halls, faction PVP, locked before TSO. Of course nothing set in stone yet, but these are the vibes I'm feeling from discussions I've seen

Obviously bit late to the party on this video upload but when it comes to EQ2 I started playing it casually at first as a Wood Elf Paladin (BTW this was back when WOW was being released - Alot of EQ'ers were all saying EQ2 us just a slightly revamped version of EQ1 and Sony are just adding the same DLC all over again in EQ2 without offering anything really new) Also I know - Wood Elf / Paladin - Strange race for what was considered a strong 6 group team tank for dungeons and a great 2nd for the main Tank running 24 person EPIC raid dungeons however I proved on a number of occasions a Paladin could tank raid bosses but he was I agree more suited as the emergency aggro holder if our main tank lost crowdcontrol and before you could say WTH happenend your entire 24 person group was wiped, however with a macro emergency heal on paladin and an emergecny aggro control ability it was rare for either main tank to lose aggor long enough or if he did die the paladin could emergecy switch to the main tank while the actual main was revived and then took over again if you had a group who knew how to quickly switch heals fast using macro keybinding which was a big thing for success in the game when i played it.
Anyway my main point is yeah they did bombard you with way to many abilties potions, crafting crap etc etc it got a bit much knowing what was worth using and how to lay it out in hotbards, i found the best way was to have 1 hotbar that based on cast timers would every 2 dmg abilities cast an ability that stunned, knocked back rooted etc in between main attacks, another hotbar for aggro control spells, and healing and AOE spells seperate as they drained so much energy on the paladin. Oh I also had max level Gnome crafting - think its gone now but i could spawn a kind of robot in a raid and for 1g everyone could repair their items while running a raid if the last boss was providing troublesome.
Anyway looking forward to finding out not if i can get my head back around all the changes as my L70 Paladin is very outdated, my character points and alternative advancement trees have all been reset are at the moment loooking really overwhelming. I have a feeling my best bet will be to just start a new character from 0 until I can learn to play the true basics of the game again if i am going to stick with it.
Thankyou for the video upload and have feeling i will be returning to your channel a lot of these coming weeks to reinitiate myself into the world of EQ2

It depends on the mob and the role of the Paladin sometimes there are good healer. Instance I have played with paladins where there was no druid or clerk available so they were the main healer and they did a great job.

The more I watch these the more I think ya'll need to fit The Lord of the Rings Online into your rotation.
The Captain class is a great analog to the paladin with group heals and buffs from the front line. They even have a tanking spec.
The burglar is my favorite rogue-type class in any MMO I've played. Much more focused on riddles and tricks (CC and debuffs) than most.
The Hunter is all about that single-target nuke damage from afar. They also get some light CC and utility abilities.
Finally for mage you got the choice between the CC/pet Lore-master class, or the Runekeeper class, which has an attunement mechanic that lets them switch between damage and healing.
Great job guys, I love this series!

great video I agree about the ability problems in EQ2 it's one of the few things i didn't like about the game that and the design of the game to me felt more like weird arcade / console hybrid game rather than a true D&D look and feel like EQ 1 was but overall it was a fun game to play.

I do not agree about the ability bloat. Sure, I understand how you came to that conclusion, but if you want every ability use to be a conscious decision, you have to git gud.. with macros. I’ve done it, and its a lot of fun, and you’ll be that much more effective as a player. I solo certain heroic instances with my level 20 (locked for the time being) Guardian on the Kaladim server. I agree and found that 99% of bloat complaints are from people that level up too fast with power levelling and they can absolutely hold aoe aggro and can totally be main tank with someone that learns the class completely. I always had less aggro issues than SK unless I had too many raid geared dps in my group. Also not removing old skills from bars then there is the addition of AA skills.

DDO oh that should be fun. The game is pretty solid, and has a decent compromise between a more "action" combat system and a more MMORPG style. The main issue si that it borrows too heavily from 3.5 D&D which means you won't have many actual abilities unless your a caster, and the late game becomes very, VERY min maxy.

When games start getting hotkeys outside of about 12-15, I start to lose interest. I dont mind alot of toys I can click now and then on a bar, or buffs, Im talking during combat on cooldown and in rotations. FF14 I am looking at you. EQ2 is a little like that but I just macro 2-3 similar ones together and spam the key to trigger them as needed. Its not "ideal" but it is a whole lot easier to wrap my head around. Ive never gotten close to end game and I am sure there are ways to macro that to be effective and cut down on number of keys you have to press (unlike FF14)

It is good to see Paladins in PRF, time will tell how roles mesh and emerge when the players are doing dungeons and raids together. EQ and EQ2 (more EQ though) had game play emerge that was not specifically designed into the game, but the mechanics favored the circumstances for the emergence of new paradigms. VR is trying hard to keep the locked roles of EQ from developing, by making, for instance, two or three classes somewhat interchangeable where the bottleneck was in EQ. Need to kill Vox? Need a tank, a big beefy Ogre tank A Cleric with a lot of mana. And Enchanter for adds. Paladins to off tank. As much as some tried to step outside the EQ paradigm, for the most part, guilds that were successful in the Planes and later expansions found the optimal path was right up the center of the paradigm in lock step. Looks like PRF will not be quite so locked in. Which is good.

Omfg. I thought there was something wrong during the parts that were sped up.
Whack a mole is such a poignant description of eq2..... Don't get me wrong - it's still fun to me. But there were, too often, times when abilities didn't feel impactful enough and just felt more like fillers.
Been thinking of ways to bolster their role as main tank without reducing their support based role. One way, I think, would be to grant self-mitigation for healing others. Perhaps, even, instead of active mitigation through dmg reduction modifiers, have spells that create a stagger effect not unlike WoW. Not only does this kind of accentuate the seIfsacr ifice class identity but also gives their heals more of an active role as opposed to an afterthought. It could even lead to some interesting spell varieties, like healing party members based on how much stagger you have.
That being said, maybe the idea of one tank in any group structure is a bit archaic. Would love support tanks to be more of a thing. Not needed but certainly not unwanted.

This game isnt like EQ1 where it takes you FOREVER to level, the leveling is much faster because the content is literally released for the end game stuff. Once all content is beat etc? Then they bring out a new expansion that adds ON to what you just finished beating.

Voxels games are all the rage right now. Look at valheim and ark and conan exiles and atlas to an extent. If daybreak would have not been timid and released this game years ago it would have matured into an awesome product that would have allowed a world we all dreamed of being able to destroy the environment and build in the world. Unfortunately we are stuck with the likes of ESO which is a shame because it doesn't offer any of what we would have got with EQNext. Even Guild Wars 2 falls short. I think it's going to be a long time before we see anything on a large scale with a lore as rich as everquest and that's a shame because the technology is there to build such a game world and the time is now.

@@TheNathanNAPALM Over 100 skills? That does sound insane so i went to double check:
      eq2.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Paladin
(about halfway down, under "Combat Arts By Category")
And is that just majorly outdated? Because total unique skills appears to be 40, with 21 by level 20. bear in mind you also made this vid about the early gameplay for the class, even commenting you felt skill bloat was a problem even by level 20 and generally not paying attention to so many skills because of early bloat. Also it actually looks like some interesting variety - with main categories "Offenses" "Buffs and Taunts" and "Utility" with even more subcategories and they all seem to do different effects on different targets at different ranges: so i'm not sure what you could consider bloat, redundant skills, or that could otherwise be condensed down into eachother. It's ok to be one of those players that prefer the 5 slot skillbar type gameplay and it's ok to have that design - it's just my issue is when that's baseline and that's all there is, for example ESO or GW2 as opposed to FF14.

    • @patrickbuckley7259
      @patrickbuckley7259 Před 3 lety

@@whiskizyo2067 I mean FF14 has a huge tendancy to cut out interesting skills for more redundant skills with every passing expansion... While I will call GW2 terrible, you can't really say games like ESO have only 4-5 skills as those are just the ones you have mapped, your weapon attacks blocks and dodges are skills too, they just aren't mapped to your bar. I haven't played ESO so I can't give an actual assessment of the game. A limited action set can be a good thing to have, but I do agree that 4-5 is too few 8-20 is about right. Depending on the game, and it's pace. No one needs 32 skills that all do the same damned things, which is kind of why I dropped FF14 superficial complexity isn't engaging it's just busy work.
