Wildest beasts on Earth: Killer Whale | Documentary

- In the remote volcanic archipelago of the Crozet islands, meet David Reicnert, a cameraman who has an extraordinary talent to locate, approach and tame some of the wildest beasts on Earth.
Enduring raging winds and icy waters with minimal protection, he enters the intimacy of elephant seals and orcas using clever ethological analyses and gets them used to his presence. Then comes the extraordinary: meet a man who communicates with penguins with body language, calms young seals and turns them into live pillows, lies underwater with 8 ton orcas or mature male seals...
Context:
David Reichert is a young American wildlife filmmaker who has dedicated his life to his passion. Specialized in marine subjects, at ease in rough seas and icy waters, David has an incredible resistance to extreme environments and a real talent for dealing with complex wildlife situations. To achieve this unique film, he spent 4 months in an isolated bay on an island 2000 miles away from the nearest continent with Jean François BARTHOD, another talented filmmaker and director with a solid experience as a DOP of feature films.

I honestly think this documentary deserves an award..
you must not watch many of these
one of the best first person point of view doc. Only the BBC "Blue Planet" would be better. Forget the American NatGeo shit
10 of them.

Me and my 7 year old son looks at this documentary every night before going to sleep ❤️❤️
this is one of the best Orca documentaries out there
Steve zissous was way better
I fucked an Orca once, I picked her up at a bar. I know what your thinking but don't worry I used a condom.
Blazingg Llama plump
Blazingg Llama why did you feel the need to say that ..but even if it was true ...why????🤔🤔🤔🐖🦈🍸🍸🙈🤡

I watch over and over this documentary . I am from Laos, a small land lock country bordered with Thailand , the other 4 countries in the Indochina region. I am highly appreciated to see your teams achievement. Your documentary is over an d over excellent of what I can tell
Poor orphaned seal... I want to hug him 😢😢God blesses this men in documentary 🙌🙏🙏
The scene where he naps and goofs with the seals was honestly really sweet.
Watching this at 1AM...watched the whole thing. I have to be at work in a few short hours, I should be sleeping. David, you are incredible. This is the best documentary on orcas I have ever seen. I felt like I was there with you. May God bless you and all of your endeavors. I’ve always had a fondness for orcas. Your passionate work and experience with these animals has really touched my soul. I will never forget this... thank you! ❤️
I'm not exaggerating by saying that this is the most heart touching well made and produced documentary i've ever seen in my life, i feel so joyful and i'm happy by the fact that a smart human being like David could communicate with my favorite animals in the world, the orca.

Well said. Julio I agree, I just absolutely in love with orcas. I get so frustrated when I hear about, orcas getting slaughter or abs used in captivity.
I prefer Beluga Whales and ordinary dolphins (Belugas are my favorite animal though)... Orcas can be assholes the way they terrorize other marine mammals like Sea Lion pups (which I really like) by throwing them up in the air repeatedly for some fun before eating them. If they do have the amount of empathy people believe them that could almost be described as an “evil/sadistic” behavior...
Brian Cline well they are called “the wolves of the sea” yes their behavior does seem cruel, but that is how they hunt. Their called” Killer Whales” for a reason, which you know. They eat other whales, kill Sharks Great Whites for their liver. I do adore belugas and dolphins as well. These mammals use 60 percent of their brains. Amazing
Ruthy Gilmore true I suppose it is just part of nature, and they probably aren’t cognizant enough to consider the trauma they inflict when doing that, and I suppose hunger knows little boundaries of morality in the wild. I agree though their intellect is very impressive as is their social behavior. It’s also interesting how they almost never attack humans even though they could kill and eat us just as easily as many larger sharks.
Still though it is something I like to point out when people talk like they are innocent a angels and humans are the devil... Orcas don’t seem all that innocent to me lol. I do really like them too but the more I’ve learned about their cruel behavior especially towards other mammals including whales, the more I’ve come to favor dolphins and especially the Beluga whale (which has always been my favorite). I don’t care really what they do to fish though as they aren’t nearly as evolved and intelligent/aware as the marine mammals. I also have a new growing interest in the Octopus, there are some cool documentaries on CZcams showing just how impressive their intellect is.
Love how he is in bright orange clothing and pacing about with a camera but they totally ignore him. We dont realise how wonderful a world we have.
This was a very nice documentary and it was an eye opening experience. I was really sad when the one little pup was orphaned and had to fend for himself..just hearing him cry for his momma and then be pushed away from the other momma seals broke my heart. I was literally crying over that part.😢💔😭 Also there were a lot of things I didn't even know about Orcas..like for instance..they sleep with one eye open literally because only half of their brain sleeps at a time. Also that they rub up against each other to show affection to one another..and that each pod of Orcas have their own unique speech pattern to talk to one another. That's awesome! Like they say" You learn something new every day"! Thanks for the great video! 🤗🐧🌊🐋💙
25:26 you never really get a good sense of scale of the males until David starts running in with the camera and keeps getting smaller and smaller
Because those shots are obviously green screened. A faked aspect to an otherwise fabulously shot doc. Look at where he is looking, often not quite at the seals. Look for the glow around his body, pasted onto of the action.
THAT WASNT EVEN F UCKING CLOSE TO THE RIGHT TIME LINK THE RIGHT TIME STUPID I DIOT!!! 🤡🤡🤡
I am not typically the one to make serious comments, but as a man who is passionate about orcas, this documentary has touched me, truly.
This documentary is so beautifully made and the interactions it captured just fill people with love for wildlife. Really appreciated your wonderful work!
Marvelous! I can see why this documentary won so many awards. Thank you for keeping the video up. God bless and stay well.
An excellent Orca documentary. Thank you for sharing this film with us.
Seeing the whales, seals, penguins and even birds all accepting a human into their world was amazing. Meanwhile, all we do is betray all of them. Sensational documentary nonetheless. If only more humans could be so embracing as David...
Consider me one of them as well.
The only thing wrong with this documentary is it's too short 😭
The rejected baby seal made me bawl my eyes out.
God luvs U. Bawl Pretty. Bawl
That’s why he refused to even comfort him at his last moments and let him get eaten alive, terrified and alone. It made him a bunch of money. Reminded me of 80’s documentaries when people didn’t save, rescue or rehabilitate animals and no one thought twice about wearing fur or whaling
@@maxsmama565 Well hello, snowflake!!! That's WILDLIFE!!! Are you able to comprehend such a simple fact? You don't interfere with the course of nature. That's a freaking elephant seal cub, not a little kitten or a puppy dog! If he wasn't there that seal would've died anyways. That's nature for you, not a Disney movie!!!
He survived.
@@maxsmama565 We can't interfere with nature like this. We'd only do more harm than good despite our intentions.
I love how he just casually chills with elephant seals because he knows they can't catch him lmao
AWESOME!!!! This has got to be the most stunning/breathtaking video I, In my sixty years, have ever seen, about Orcas & Elephant Seals. I truly envy Mr. Reicnert for being able to socialize with these wonderful creatures. Makes you wonder what GOD was thinking when he created them. I will definitely watch this over and over again.
Thank you for posting this masterpiece.

I love orcas so much 🥰
WOW, you are very lucky to get the chance to spend time with wild animals!
this is the best orca documentary I have watched you are an incredible person and what a blessing to experience this marine wildlife up close thank you
+Shele Mason you had a good one ..of course you cnt compare on the wild, but thr=e lights etc it was very good,,
+Shele Mason have you seen another doc 'invasion of the killer whales'?
Don't think I have but thanks for the recommendation I will watch that one
there is another documentary which is quite similar to A Man Among Orcas. It is called 'Deadly Islands - Killer Whales Island'. In this documentary, killer whales exhibited their remarkable intelligence in hunting seals. Strongly recommended.
Truly wonderful thank you for all your hard work to give us such an amazing experience.
While there is a part of me that questions the wisdom of this man risking so much to be this close to the apex predator of the sea. Having grown up around the sea myself and interacting marine life. I appreciate his due diligence and desire to be one with these powerful animals. This is one outstanding video. To all who made this happen, thanks for what you have done and thanks for sharing.
Great work filming and exposing nature, much more in the tradition of Jacques Cousteau than modern documentaries.
How well I remember Jacques Cousteau. He invented the underwater breathing cylinders, didn't he??? There was also Hans and Lottie Hass, black and white t.v.
in the 50's I think, all under water films.
Excellent. Thanks for sharing. Theres a subtle difference between interacting and interfering. Though it seems cruel to us humans sometimes nature does things its own way.
thanks captain obvious
Peter Johnson i agree by not interfering he is allowing nature to take its course
When I eat bacon, nature is taking its course
That's an awesome name, is that your real name??
Has to be the best video I've ever seen on CZcams! Simply amazing documentary
This is the best documentary i have ever seen.
Emotional too!
This was one of the best nature docs I've ever seen. The Elephant Seal and man footage were really spectacular. :)
that seal puppy was so cute
haha :D
+Natty S are you still talking about the seal puppy?XD
+Jay Jay Puskas Quaresma yes 😀
He's an adult now on that beach.
I don't think I've ever seen a documentary about marine life that is this aweeeeesome!!! This is thee best for sure. Thanks a million David. You are super courageous!!!
I thought they never slept. It was cool to see how they sleep. Glad I watched.
This was perfect. Just the documentary i needed without any agenda. ❤❤
. One day I meet the producer of this documentaries. I was art student in the 90. We meet on a road, when chating about movies. As a student, he helped me to improve some writen stories and lend me a camera tripod, with all his trust. Amazing guy who tryied to produce one of my projects few years later. Amazing people. I don't forget.
GREAT documentary! I would say David is the James Reed of Marine animals 😄 That shot at 11:10 in the reflection of the eye of the elephant seal. I mean come on, he is unbelievable. I don’t know if that was unintentional, but it was amazing and so unique. I LOVED it!!
Thank you so much for uploading & posting this! I've seen almost every single Orca documentary ever made so it was very refreshing to find one I had never seen before!
Same! This one rocks
Best documentary hands down.
Realy nice so pretty without any people and thank you for these wonderfull movie

One of the best nature programs I have seen in years, great job!!!
Fantastic!! I also loved how he interacted with the baby elephant seals.
This documentary is EXCELLENT!
The best thing I’ve ever seen on you tube
Fabulous! Thank you! Au revoir!
I love the music of the documentary 🙂 and the documentary itself is incredible
We all talk about how fascinating the animal is but how bout we talk about how fascinating the human species can be to get this close to wild orcas not knowing the outcome?
Thank you David and the crew!
Loved this documentary.. At the end, it was like they swam by like, "Can you do this?!"😂 Nope," How about this?" too cute! I wanted to be right there with him! Amazing video
I like all the rest of the 'commenteers' have nothing but praise and admiration for David and his love of the orcas they truly are a wonder of evolution it's just a shame that we are not, we cud be and most of us are but alas we choose to destroy and fight instead of loving this beautiful planet we live on!!!
Amazing documentary, you are so brave, David :) I envy you for having an opportunity to make a contact with orcas. I keep dreaming about swimming with them someday although I don't think I would ever be so brave. :D
calm down byork
Um, what's your problem? O.o
Not sure exactly which company, if any, this man David is associated with but nonetheless he's awesome. This documentary was great and had lots of breathtaking footage of my favorite 3 animals - orca, king penguins, and elephant seals. As animal and nature lover, found this very well worth watching!! 😊
Watched this a couple times throughout the years and I always love watching it
Moral of the story: the friend of your friend is not always your friend ;-)

Beauty hardship cruelty of the wild thank you for your sacrifice to bring this incredible view into their and your lives 🙏🏻
Thank you for this wonderful documentary . At least some of us have understood why we are here and it is certainly not to dominate and use but rather to be the guardians and carers of this incredible life. A rare chance, perhaps the only one in this galaxy. I feel privileged to have shared my beautiful planet with all the other life forms on her.

Excellent well made documentary, regards from London UK 🇬🇧.
absolutely amazing every second they know dont u worry
I never knew just how huge elephant seal males were until i saw this camera man next to those two fighting, he looked to them like a penguin does standing beside him. Simply massive. One could kill you with ease if it took a notion to. Im speechless at the size of these animals. They are actually bigger than a land elephant
One of the best documentaries I've seen on orcas.
I often wonder who would dislike these nature documentaries. SMH
Oh I love this. Thank you so much for doing it. Other wise we would never get to see how beautiful waters they call home. I wish they could all be free
My personal favorite documentary of all time
