    I created a pool out of a 300Gal polymer livestock watering tank.
    I hooked up a sand filter and an inline jacuzzi heater which cycles daily. The kids have used it for 3 years straight.

    We’ve had a stock tank pool for 4 years now. No liner, just the galvanized tank (about $400 at the time, had to transport myself). Bought a pump/filter for an intex kid pool. From there just needed to cut an inlet/outlet with a hole saw, and visit the plumbing aisle at Home Depot for a handful of plumbing parts to connect the pump. Never had a rust or leak issue, just re-sealed the seams as a precaution of the first time this summer. Uses 2-3 chlorine tabs in a floater each week. We are in Wisconsin, so temps usually in the mid 80’s here. Location is part shade and the water stays around 75 degrees without doing anything. The metal pool is not hot to the touch, the water dissipates the heat. I tip it on its side for the winter months and store it against our shed.

      If using flex seal or anything like that, you probably should do a solar test. I’ve heard that they are not very uv resistant which would create a mess pretty quickly. A lot easier to just get a poly stock tank that are made uv stable.

    Down south I would go solar for sure. Not PV panels but circulating the water through black pipes that are in the sun in a box with a mirrored surface on the back and a clear surface on the front. Use a PV panel to circulate it.

    Back in the 80's in South St Loius, almost every kid had one of these in the backyard. We would run from house to house jumping in the pools... because of this, they always had grass on the bottom. LOL. We would grab the side and pull ourselves around the pool to make a whirlpool. Good times!

    Great video! Just to make people aware it is super important to electrically bond all of your pool equipment and metal components. A lot of people (and even electricians) don't do this properly and it's possible to get shocked if not done right.

    You're keeping that pool pretty full - I wonder if it might not be a good idea to install some kind of liner around the edges to keep splash/rain overflow from degrading your decking/fasteners too quickly? I think I remember you using a composite deck board, so maybe it's not a huge deal.

We were cautioned by our property management company that we should investigate the weekly/daily Maintenace and how we can best keep it clean between guests. Do you cover yours? Screen cover (so critters don’t fall in) or solid plastic cover tied down? Do you use a robot skimmer? Can you make suggestions on how we might consider the Maintenace for a non residence? Thank you!

      Depending on the solar orientation, it will get increasingly warm as the summer goes on. I’ve even been to lakes that were unrefreshingly warm on the surface if the cooler water below isn’t stirred up. The good news though is that the cover you’re getting will reduce the solar heat gain considerably. The other good news is that it’s not much water so fairly easy to cool with 50-60 degree tap water.

    April are you going to cover it or Put a fence to isolate it from the puppers? If not you may want to consider a dog exit ramp to avoid a doggo falling in and drowning. Vertical side ponds dogs can’t get out easily and can drowned. I’ve had it happen. Look it up and maybe make a little ramp for them to exit.

    Another great advantage with the maintenance, if it ever get's too dirty you can simply use up the water in your garden, wash everything and fill it with fresh water. About an hour of work and not expensive for that amount of water. Absolutely no option for a large pool.

    • @1superricko
      @1superricko Před 11 měsíci +1

      The chlorine in the pool water will burn the roots of the plants. Depending on the amount of chlorine it can take 24 hours or longer to evaporate to a safe level. Otherwise it needs to go to the city waste water processing. A septic tank is not an option.

    • @johnlee7085
      @johnlee7085 Před 11 měsíci

      It’s not difficult to dechlorinate a pool so it’s safe to discharge to landscaping. I probably wouldn’t put it directly into a food garden but it is easy to grass, trees, etc.

    I’d pay $2500 for 8 inch for convenience but $5000 is overpriced. I’d probably get a stock tank and add a pool liner. If I want insulation, I can spray foam under the liner except where stock tank connects to the pump, or put tank on top of an insulated slab.

    • @johnlee7085
      @johnlee7085 Před 11 měsíci

      Poly tank.
      Fair easy to put in partially in the ground for insulation.

    $2-3k for a stock tank pool?! I thought the point of these things is that they're an affordable alternative? A simple, large, intex pool is ~1k.

    • @dontfit6380
      @dontfit6380 Před 11 měsíci +8

      $5000 for the 8’ with no heat. The 8’ tank at tractor supply is $500. Cowboy pool in my opinion is a foolish purchase.

      @chuckw4680 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@marigoldtransportationgrou8016
      We’ve got 6 years on one similar to an intex that cost us right around $70. Even if they lasted only a couple years still a much better buy then $5000 on a fancy stock tank.

    • @chuckw4680
      @chuckw4680 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@marigoldtransportationgrou8016 either option will last a while if properly cared for. The Intex pools are marketed as a complete, affordable alternative to a real, permanent pool, hence their price tag.

    You live in Texas… so… why don’t you role up a black tube in a spiral and lay it down in a sunny spot, pump the water through it back to the tank… almost free warm water. Shut down the pump if it gets to warm…

    "Galvanized steel will eventually rust" especially if the water in it is heated up, bubbling and treated with various anti bacterial chemicals like chlorine. Galvanized tanks were never built to withstand that environment.

    • @scottmichaels6854
      @scottmichaels6854 Před 11 měsíci +2

      With no liner, they’ll typically last 5-10 years depending on how strong the chemicals are that you use. For a few hundred dollars you can coat it with something like Pond Shield epoxy coating to make it last longer.

    If you are going to get all extra's I don't think its worth it, better to get a quality used hot tub/spa pool,...............it will last a lot longer, more insulation, lower running costs built in lights, fountain, ice bucket, music player, lockable lid.....................you get what you pay for. I would get one as a basic plunge pool/ice bath.
