- Big Fin Era Mopar, 1959 Plymouth Suburban Station Wagon, a '59 Plymouth Sport 6-passenger Suburban Station Wagon! This thing reminds me of Christine ! 1959 was the time of big tail fins and this fine Plymouth classic car / estate wagon is no different. I filmed this collector car with my friend Brent of FAST440 classic consignment cars in Forney, Texas. This wagon will be briefly for sale! Thanks for SUBSCRIBING and SHARING this SAMSPACE81 CZcams classic collector car - wagon video! This is a very rare car, not a BelAir or Safari Wagon or Nomad but just as COOL, all original steel with a few mild custom features

I don't think you people understand how much a 2 door wagon is such a RARE car . The Chevrolet and Pontiac Nomads and Safaris were trend setters forever. And the more rare Plymouth wagons with 2 doors were really more special. Never to be seen again.
Yes such a cool ride to work with
Jeez, absolutely amazing! 2 door version is mega MEGA rare. Love this restored honey of a Forward Look station wagon. When I was an odd ball teen in British Columbia, Canada I bought a Canuck version of this Suburban station. Purchased from original owner in January of 1976, that station wagon was my daily driver until June of 1979. The Canadian version of the Suburban, like the stunning vehicle in this video, was branded as a Dodge up here in the Dominion. . Canuck version had same rear end, centre part & interior as the U.S. one, but had the same front end as the American 1959 Dodge. Seeing the dashboard in the astounding 1959 Plymouth in this video was so nostalgic for me, as it is the same as my Canadian 1959. Minus the FM radio / 8-track tape player I had installed in February of 1976 at Opus One Auto Audio on Cambie Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. Again, many thanks for showing this American 1959 Plymouth Suburban station wagon. Oh yeah, in 1977 some wanker backed into my 1959 Dodge & clipped the rear tail light off, just below the driver's side tail fin. My best friend Glen told me that there was a 1959 Plymouth station wagon in a auto wrecker's yard in Bellingham, Washington. Quick drive across the border & I was able to procure a tail light for my Canuck station wagon.
Love it, thank you for watching and articulating your memories for us ❤️
We had a 1958,and we had a blast with it!!!
Awesome I've never seen another
Ohhhhh this is so cool! Fullsize 2-door wagon, black, dog dishes, classic Forward Look styling. Just absolutely dope!!
I looked up how many of these were built in '59 and was surprised to find that between the Deluxe Suburban and Custom Suburban lines they actually built about 20,000 of the 2-door wagons. Most were probably, as you guys suggested in the video, work cars used by plumbers and electricians and whatnot; driven hard and hung up wet... because these are SERIOUSLY rare cars these days. I would be surprised if 200 total exist in the world at this point.
My first car was a 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury. Loved that car! I wish I would’ve kept it.
It was perfect.
Good looking cars. Thanks for checking out this cool wagon & enjoy the channel. I need to find more Furys to film.
@@samspace81 oh god, more Christianes then...
What and incredible Station Wagon. Its so rare . I happy that they saved it .. I've been to many car show.I have never see one like that yet ..
Glad you enjoyed it
My father had a '59 Plymouth sedan similar to the one shown. His was the stick shift model having the gearshift attached to the exposed shifting rod located under the steering column. When shifting from first to second gear, the shift handle came close to the upper right instrument cluster;close enough for him to break his finger knuckles on that cluster abutment. This was definitely a bad design!
A 361 is the smallest version of the 383/413/400/ and the 440 series engines and they all have the distributor in the front of the ENGINE. THIS CAR HAS A 318 CI ENGINE.
Yeah ole Brent was winging it, learned afterwards. Thanks Dorsie
I think that the 318 "Poly-Head" or "Semi-Hemi" V8 in some 1957-66 Plymouth cars, was a different engine from the 318 Wedge V8 in some 1967 and later Plymouth cars.
@@michaelmott8086 all 318s shared many components in the bottom end, but yes they are quite different.
My brothers brought one of those back from the dead years ago. Good to see it.
Thats awesome. Glad I could bring up the memory. Thanks for sharing.
Never saw one of these before....quite the badass wagon, sort of like a Mopar version of the Nomad....
Yes!
That old paint buffed out awfully nice.
It was previously restored
I never thought I'd live to see the day when a Plymouth Suburban would be considered an admirable collectible car worthy of restoration.
Thanks, me too. My PRents had a 59 DODGE 9 PASS/ loaded except air Conditioning: Plymouth’s were always cheaper *& rusted even quicker to rust OUT, in NORTH INDIANA,ETC. We had five Kids…interesting rebuild,
Haha love em
My folks bought a '58 Nomad wagon in '59, the former owner traded it off for a '59 Chevy wagon. The Nomad was my folks first really nice car. 348 V8, automatic, power steering and brakes, radio, heater, whitewalls, clock, two-tone green exterior and all the Nomad chrome pieces. It had the Powerglide tranny and my dad heard they were problematic, but we never had a problem. We had that car until 1965 when dad got the Impala wagon for that year.
Great story, thank you for sharing! I love it when people share car stories. Enjoy the channel.
That 1959 Plymouth Suburban has more style and luxury features than today's boring plastic fed throw away SUV'S. Great classic.
Beautiful car!!!!!! Cars had design back then!!!!
I agree!
Oh shidt!!...Its Christine II and just ran over the guy in the garage!!
No not Christine, but definitely a relative of hers --the one you do not want to meet.
Awesome car. A black Christine with more room for bodies. 🤤🤤
YES Absolutely, my friend Brent is fun to work with - SAM
Cool car !! When i was a kid my dad had a 4 door hard top Fury !!
My parents had a 59. It was a four door Sport with push-button auto trans and rear facing third seat. Two -tone black and white with chrome everywhere. I was five when they traded it off in 66. I remember the radio dials being separate form the face like this one. My mother drove the Suburban and my Dad drove a 63 Chrysler 300. They were my first car memories.
Thank u for sharing
A beauty! Don't change a thing.. thanks for sharing.
I learned to drive in the sedan version of this car. It had three on the tree and was fun. My high school sweetheart was cuddled up beside me, yes we could do that back then, and she attempted to shift it to second but managed to try putting it in reverse! I forgave her and wound up marrying her anyway. She never did learn how to drive stick but we have managed to stay married for 53 years
Good memories Don, appreciate you sharing & watching my channel
Sounds and looks amazing
love the gold roof and interior accents
Thanks David
I dont think people appreciate utility vehicles such as this one. Cars like that built the country it is today
Kind of has that hearse look to it. A little creepy but awesome just the same
My dad had a 58 chrysler windsor wagon. I was 7 or 8 years old.
That color combo is perfect.
beautiful restoration
That's unusual, an estate car with only two doors . . . ! Very very nice, but the '58 is my favourite.
It is! I've had people swear they didn't make one haha I love a '58 especially, Christine afterall.
Beautiful car! I’ve never seen one. If those wheels/caps are original...it’s hard to believe they were used for an additional 2 decades after that! (My 78 Dodge pickup had them).
That was a very cool station wagon
'78 - '89 Mopar police car wheels, 15 x 7"
What’s not to love? Poverty caps and Blackwell tires look perfect. Color combo is super cool 😎
Move over Chevy Nomad
Truth killer wagon with subtle custom touches
What an awesome car, I would so enjoy a car like this everyday. Would not change a thing, just drive her and take great care of her. Very nice.
Memorable wagon
,Christine Is Back,AS A STATION WAGON,DON' T PISS HER OFF!!! LOL
hahahaha Thanks for the great comment Ed! Glad you enjoyed the video, I love classic cars. Enjoy the channel.
Gotta love a wagon with fins! I want one bad!
I miss the dimmer switch on the floor , the wing windows , riding in the rear of a wagon , and the sound of a Plymouth V8 !
Never even knew they made a 2 door wagon, way awesome!! Never knew Ford made one either till my father in law bought one for a parts car on his contractible.
Great wagon
Boy the sheer size of that thing is no joke ! lol
This wagon only carry 5 passenger back in the day. I was 5 years old then and I remember the car but, my great uncle had a 4 door it carry 7 or 8 depending on your size.
very nice restoration
"3 on the tree, who wants that?" I DO! They're fun
👍
Nice car!
Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you for watching
When these old cars get better with age, watch out.
So true
Super video 🤩🥳👍👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Curved rear quarter glass reminds me of the big Dodge vans in the 80's & 90's.
Beautiful car.
I appreciate the comment, I see what you mean. Enjoy the channel.
My Family has owned 57 & 58 Plymouth's BUT NOT A WAGON, & a TWO DOOR ? That MUST BE A VERY RARE FIND, AWESOME CAR ... IT IS ONE OF NOT MANY... CLEAN ...
Wonderful, thanks for sharing 👍
“3 on the tree, who wants that” Me, I get bored driving automatics
The automatic is unfortunate. But the plus side is there's not a microprocessor or transistor in sight!
It was probably a push button.
@@citrus1973 It was definitely a pushbutton automatic -- you can see the buttons on the right side of the instrument cluster.
Yup pushbutton auto
Another Amazing classic car that i like it. More classic cars please.
+Classic Gamer Thanks for checking it out Classic Gamer! I had a lot of FUN making this particular video, you never see these big fin estate wagons!!
I swaed a few classic wagon cars and they are Awesome and drivable too.
Good quality video. Great original car!!!
Thank you very much!! I have a lot fun doing this. This was a really nice wagon.
I love it. I love it . What a great cruiser
It really is!
The station wagon was a luxury covered truck. Very practical and stylish. Time for it's return putting all those 'feel good' SUV's
to shame.
You knew it Paul
what a awesome wagon, love the Christian intro.
Thanks so much!
Gorgeous car.
I've got one just like this in Flame Red. Flathead six, manual everything, 4 way drums, three on the tree, radio and heater delete from the factory. Pretty much original except the paint and interior. She's a beast to drive but sure creates a stir wherever I take her.
Thanks 4 sharing
In my childhood wagons ruled the road today it’s SUVs. Volvo And Subaru still make a lovely wagon . You have to order it special dealers don’t even stock them.
I've owned a Suburu wagon for a decade
(Bought it new) It has been one of the
best, most reliable autos that I have
owned.
Thanks for watching 👀
my family had one of these when I was a kid. Nice car.
Appreciate you sharing
Very nice car !
In 1962, my mom bought a used '59 Plymouth Savoy? 4-door sedan that had, believe or not,,,,. A 6-cylinder flathead engine in it! The car was a 'stripper' with a three on the tree standard 3-speed transmission.
Appreciate you sharing 💯
Wow... What a time capsule!
Great wagon, thanks for watching
Man, I think I might prefer these even over the nomad and park lane 2 door wagons from the competitors! I like that trunk bit in the back, you could fill it up with ice and beer at the camp ground, people would love it!
Great wagon ❤️ 🇺🇸
Like the wheel choice. Well done, looks almost stock
It does!
I wish I had one of these so I could travel with my surfboards in style
Thanks for your viewership
Beatiful job on the restoration
Appreciate you watching Murray
Wow! I never knew that Plymouth still made two door station wagons in 1959, with rear passenger sliding windows even! By the late '50's, Detroit had pretty much gone over to four door wagons. Our family had a '53 Plymouth two door (with rear slider windows) wagon back during the '60's. In the early '50's, two door wagons were far more common.
Marshall Curtis Two-door wagons did make a comeback in Detroit in the '70s, albeit short-lived. The Chevrolet Vega/Monza (and Pontiac Astre/Sunbird) were offered as two door wagons, as well as the Ford Pinto (and its Mercury twin, the Bobcat) in the '70s.
Cool wagon for sure
@@knowbodiesfull5768 True, but only as small car two-door wagons. Full-size two door wagons went out with the Early 60s.
Didn't expect a two-door wagon. that's rare.
Was a cool one for sure
I bet this is very rare a beautiful wagon .
My dad had one of these cars. Same year , Used 1962- 1963 .It stuck out- orange color. Rode in the back with my brother and sister, ( behind the rear passenger seat.)
Very cool
tank you for sharing
+Brian ruben Nan My pleasure, I love videoing these old cars!
awesome car. FINS UP 👍 👍
Great comment Eric! Thanks and enjoy the channel. I'm all about the classics!
Looks like a Fury, but is a station wagon. I'm sold. Later. Have an F85 to take care of on a shoestring budget.
The vehicle I drove until my F85 was roadworthy was my mom's 2004 Chevy Suburban, which all around isn't that different. Big, boxy king of the road type of vehicle. Hilariously difficult to park.
Awesome, still have your F85?
reminds me of a Hearse, which I love and drive two of. sweet ride!!
Its definitely got its own thing going! Thanks for checking it out and enjoy the channel! I love old cars, be sure and subscribe if you haven't
@@samspace81 that's what I thought😂 Did Plymouth actually send suburban to coach builders for hearse/ambulance conversions?
Very rare Plymouth hardly any left they rusted badly up north. Very nice
That's the truth, appreciate you watching 👀
We had 2 of these when I was a kid. My dad’s was dark blue and my mom’s was turquoise.
Thanks 4 sharing
Now we know what the batmobile would look like if Bats was married with a family.
Thats funny
Very impressive!! Great Resto
someone really took their time with this wagon. Thanks for checking it out!
+samspace81 Have a wonderful day
Engine is a 318 Poly. Mopar big blocks had the distributor up front.
Thank u
I love the original windshield wipers on it those are hard to find. I always hate when they have an old car with silver windshield wiper arms with black windshield wipers it always makes it look wrong. also I would try to look into getting the correct wheels and hubcaps for it that's the only thing that throws it off. the guy was right they look like seventies eighties police interceptor hubcaps / rims?
POLY 318 ,2BL - love when he says 361 4 barrel kicks in lol'
💪
This is a beautiful example. I like to watch Peter Gunn to see Chrysler vehicles.
I'll check him out and thanks for following Samspace81 :)
Love the interceptor rim and caps✔🎯😎
A lot of them and the Savoys had them
Me too thanks for checking it out
Cool wagon. Sinister
Great way to describe it
the work vehicle of the late 50s early 60s
Yes
nice video and nice car
+Brian ruben Nan Thanks for checking it out Brian! I never see these big fin wagons, had to have some serious fun with this video.
Awesome car! I notice the wheels are from '70s '80s Plymouth and Dodge police cars.
Yeah its really got its own look going. Thanks for checking it out and enjoy the channel.
What a Great old Car.
It really was
SUPER COOL TOTALLY UNIQUE WAGON....I THINK IT CAME STOCK W/ PUSH-BUTTON AUTO TRANS..........THANKS FOR POSTING SUCH A GREAT VIDEO W/ SUPERB CONTENT!
HaHaHa. I laughed at that running scene, Very realistic.
-Are you SURE he's okay ???
Its a 318...Nice job. Restorer does nice work.I love the cop car wheels and caps...
Memorable wagon, good friend. Thanks for watching
My 1st car.
My mother sold it in 67 when after I got drafted. For $100 with 34,000 mile on it. Most mechanics cold not keep it running. It had a 58 distributor in it. There was a few thousands difference in the rotor and cap and the number on it matched a 58 Chrysler not Dodge, Plymouth or DeSoto
The one I had came from the factory with 58 Chrysler motor in it. Chrysler pretty much emptied it warehouses during the strike just to put cars in the dealerships to sell for the 59 model year.
I never seen another Chrysler V-8 like it again. The heads were made from different metal than the block. It was obvious because the block was a lighter color metal. Not sure what it was but it would move about the same as a 327 Chevy
59 was the year of the steel strike.
I don't get the floor shift idea. The buttons on the left are for a Power Flight / Torque Flite automatic. 4 buttons were for the two speed and 5 buttons were for the 3 speed.
There should have been a lever on the dash to engage the the e-brake the e-brake was a drum brake on the drive shaft.
I did not ever see a 3 on the tree version. Does not mean they did not exist. Most of the Plymouths I did see with with them were Savoys.
Generally the the 2 door wagon had the 2 speed automatic and the 4 door wagon had the 3 speed
Wonderful, thanks so much for sharing sir. I appreciate your service to our country as well. This one has a latter drivetrain and shifter/trans change, I think 383/727 setup if I remember right. I appreciate you watching & taking the time to comment, I've never seen another one. What color combo was your car? Thanks again - Sam
@@samspace81 LIght tan exterior and gray interior. 2 door 6 passenger, bench seats.
The Plymouth nameplate is lacking the "V" which was placed along with the nameplate and signified the presence of a V8 engine. Therefore, I think this car was originally powered by the old flathead six.
That makes sense! I can't remember whether it was or not. Enjoy the channel!
Waggoners B
Good catch on the missing V on the tailgate yeah I bet it had the flathead 6 being a bare bone model
the great 318 poly motor, you can build that to 500hp, nice vid.
I appreciate it that. Yes those poly engines are great. Thanks for the comment and enjoy the channel.
I love the older engines these cars came with because of the emissions and stuff there isn't anything on this one at all no egr valve no nothing that's what I like so don't have so many Damn issues and stuff but yeah I love these older cars
It has a very forward look.
Good one
Nice car! :)
It was. Lot of fun making that video
hey samspacce I just bought a sixty Plymouth fury big wings its crazy but it survived its needs a total restoration but just still an amazing car
I love the '59, '60 with the huge fins for sure. Plymouth hung in there for a few more years with big fins.
when I saw it I fell in love with the car and i bought it. fun to drive that for sure.
samspace81 i love those cars i just bought one in a kind of tanish color and i love the way it looks
This car could be the next Christine.
Totally could ha
A Arnie Cunningham le gusto este video 🚘🔥🔥❤
Appreciate you
I think that "Christine" was a 1958 Plymouth 2-door hardtop. That's about my age.
Thanks Michael for watching
Excelente vehículo
Thanks so much, appreciate you watching Samspace81
Absolute beast! dare I say more practical than a pickup?
+Green Pretzel More comfortable for sure back then! Thanks for the comment
samspace81 Thanks for the video, the commentary and information was great in this one.
looks to me like it had a push button transmission rather than a three-on-the-tree originally. Love that dash around the instrument cluster so typical of the space race architecture of the time.
👍 💯
0:30 perfect! LOVE IT!
💪 🇺🇸
@@samspace81 I now own a '57 Plymouth Belvedere 4DHT. what a car!!
TV repairman would have used one of these.
Makes sense. Thank you
I think Sydney Potier drove one like
this in Lillies Of The Field. Nice car. Haven't seen one in years.
I need to check that movie out
I have seen those poverty model hubcaps on c1980 police cars when I was young. Motorcycle cops drove Kawasaki Police 1000s.
Thanks Tom
