I've had the good fortune to see Ronnie Earl in concert well over 50 times over the last 25 plus years. In my humble opinion, he is the most emotionally expressive blues guitarist on the planet!
Without question, this guy is one of the best true bluesmen of his generation and this concert portrays it beyond a doubt. He has such a unique signature, too.
This guy always delivers and his range is stunning. Shame he is barely known outside of hardcore Blues circles. Easily one of the greatest Guitarists of not just Blues but any genre. His tone is almost perfect and his technical skill is as flawless as it gets.
I LOVE RONNIE IS THE BEST BLUESMAN IN THE WORLD, WHAT MORE CAN I SAY. RONNIE SHOULD BE AT THE TOP OF YOUR LIST OF GREATEST GUITAR PLAYERS IN THE WORLD. LOVE U RONNIE, DARRYLK
Boy, these guys are REALLY COOKING !! As a drummer I really appreciate the million very subtle things this very good drummer Per Hanson is doing here. and his Zildjian ride and crash cymbals really blend so well in the group. His drums sound tight and crisp. His fills are spot on !! Man,this guy is GOOD !! Gives me chills.
Man to play that cleanly with such a pure Strat tone is very difficult. But the main attraction is that he is an incredible player period. I never get tired of watching him tear it up!
I discovered this concert today and I can't understand why I never heard or seen him all these years.Hes a master of guitar and the band is amazing. So clean tone . Its so difficult to play a Strat straight to the amp. And he does it so well and so expressively !!! Fantastic performance.I am stuck .
Great video. I used to see Ronnie Earls at the Sit'N Bull Pub in Maynard, MA every Wednesday for free (plus beer of course). My first band rehearsed in Maynard on Wednesdays and some of us would head to the Sit'N Bull afterwards to hear Ronnie play a set or two. This I think was 1992. The strange thing I remember most is Par Hanson (sp?) on drums. The most intense drummer I have ever seen. It does not show it on this video, but at the 'Bull he would just stare straight ahead and Ronnie would just go of in some direction and Par would be right there. He was all ears. And yes Bruce Katz is amazing. I saw him many times when I was in the Boston, MA area in the 1990s and early 2000s. Love the B-3 in general and he is amazing on it.
I don't know why Fender doesn't recognize this incredible talent with his own signature guitar. He probably has one of thee best Stratocaster tones ever. Shame on you, FMIC.
Well, EVERYBODY can't have a signature guitar. And what would be the difference between a Ronnie EArl Strat and a Rubenreza Strat, except maybe that Ronnie can play it a lot better.
I discovered the blues in the late 80's-90's and Ronnie was the 1st player I ever heard (at Chans Restaurant in R.I. USA) where he comes from. Very small intimate venue -had no idea how blessed I was to have seen him back then.Still listening to him. Thanks for the great post. cheers
Amazing. First time I saw Ronnie was at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence with Roomful of Blues. I was hooked. Saw him with The Broadcasters at the Last Call Saloon so many times. When Ronnie's foot starts stompin' LOOK OUT!
This is so freaking badass!! I just saw Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters last Saturday May 7th 2016 to be exact and he headlined the Blind Willie McTell Blues Festival and he opened up with Moanin and it was a superb show. The concert venue owners was trying to get Ronnie to quit because he went over his allotted time and As Ronnie was playing some slow Blues as he sat on the edge of the stage right directly in front of my son and I and we actually helped him get down and seated he looked back at the guy back stage and said and I quote "can't I play a little longer?" And the guy held his hands up as if to say 5 or ten more minutes and Ronnie kept on playing way past that ten mins until they finally threatened to unplug him and that shut was awesome. I see people hating on him sometimes with the comments not on this thread but another I read when he was playing with Ana Popovic and they were saying ugly things about him. Sorry for the long post but he has a special place in my heart
I was there too, right up front- I helped him sit down and gave him a hand standing up. It was like you said- a fabulous show! And he was so nice when I met him after the show- has his pic taken with me! Monster talent and a total gentleman- I'm a huge fan...
Never seen anyone play like this before,Has a Style of his own n I'm Digging It 💯🎸🎶🎶🎶 There's that Bad Ass organ player,he's kicking It with Joe Bonamasa recently 🎹🎼🎼 Fricken Awesome
Ive been lucky To listen this live" experience and I must say since then Ronny Earl is one of the Stars of Blues that without a doubt / 5 Stars the whole band
I saw this guy around this time at the Town & Country 2 in London. You couldn't get a clear view of the guy's hands !! Such a quality of tone and playing - superb.
There was a CD release of this German show and also a Tab guitar book many years ago which I own. Being a Ronnie Earl fan and have many of his recordings but this one is my favorite. Didn't know that there was video of this show.
This is a fucking gem. Thanks for uploading!. Ronnie got the best tone that can be taken from a stratocaster without a doubt. a pure strain bluesman like myself. Spread the love bro!
Smokin' live performance from Ronnie's quintessential instrumental albums Still River '93 & Language Of The Soul '94 : Rego Park Blues, Moanin', Blues For The Westside, Chili Ba Hugh, Eddie's Gospel Groove, Indigo Burrell
la musica tenia que ser obligatoria desde niños. con la musica la imaginacion te hace ir a muchos sitios sin moverte del sofa o la cama. un saludo para todos y espero os guste mi seleccion musical
Just great playing all round. Love Ronnie and Bruce Katz' organ playing is a wonder. By the way, the tune introduced as John Coltrane's Alabama is in fact a Kenny Burrell style tune I think called Indigo Burrell taken from their Language of the Soul CD. Ronnie does attempt to correct himself but you can hardly hear it.
I saw Ronnie In Lexington Ky..on Thaourwhen he had just brought that old guy harmonica/singer..who has since died..hate I can't remember his name..I am the ing old now..Any Ronnie explained about how he and others were the bringing back the pioneers giving them a chance to play again..
I saw RE in '89 with Darell Nulisch, who sang and played harp. Great singer and harp player. I cant help wondering if maybe you were thinking of Sam Myers, who passed away a few years ago. Another great harp player, and truly a monstrous! singer- he had a voice that could knock you backwards off your chair from across the room. He was from Mississipi, born in 1936. His main gig was with Anson Funderburgh through the 90's and maybe up until he died in 2006- Im not sure about that. Check out his nine minute live video "Hold That Train Conductor" on Ytube if you want to see some blistering vocals.
I love Ronnie and the blues--Strat tones in particular--but I have to say I was checking my watch after ten minutes. Non-stop instrumental gets wearisome fast.
Strange thing is, I wasn't looking at my watch - he and his band are cooking so hot it holds me in - the whole way. But yeah, most "blues" guitarists, I wouldn't last one song.
This is some classic footage from one of my all-time favorite blues guitar players what a band what a great lineup he's got in this show 93 and 96 live in Germany just fantastic stuff how did you ever get this footage??
this concert is a concert in Brazil in 1997 on tour with Carlos Santana Band, I know cause I posted the video from a bootleg of this show , which by the way is the Ronnie Earl concert EVER
Mark Hughes...............look for another post which is titled “Live in Breminale early 90’s” then seek out his album “Blues Guitar Virtuoso Live in Europe”. They are video and audio of the same performance. I think it eclipses this performance. I’d want it if I were stuck on a desert island.
You can hear a lot of Stevie’s chops in Ronnie’s repertoire. (Or Ronnie’s in Stevie’s) At about 18:30 reminiscent of “Dirty Pool”. But makes sense they spent a lot of their formative years playing the same clubs like Antones down in Austin and were the same age - Ronnie a year older.
I've had the good fortune to see Ronnie Earl in concert well over 50 times over the last 25 plus years. In my humble opinion, he is the most emotionally expressive blues guitarist on the planet!
You know your s*** Jim
At the Last Call Saloon?
Absolutely right. Ridiculously expressive. Perhaps the best ever, in my view. Of course there have been many excellent blues players.
Absolutely Right. One of Best Stratocaster Tone I ever heard
And that's why Texas he is who he is dig it!!!
Echo that. And props to the band overall.

Yeah me too Dave! Three times
Man to play that cleanly with such a pure Strat tone is very difficult. But the main attraction is that he is an incredible player period. I never get tired of watching him tear it up!
I agree.
Per Hanson -rock solid on the drums. The Bass player -up front and on point. AWEsome rhtyhm section.
Tone, tone, tone, tone. Best Strat tone ever....
I discovered this concert today and I can't understand why I never heard or seen him all these years.Hes a master of guitar and the band is amazing. So clean tone . Its so difficult to play a Strat straight to the amp.

Me too bum

I agree Fender is a bunch of dumbasses not to give this Cat his recognition.
Well, EVERYBODY can't have a signature guitar. And what would be the difference between a Ronnie EArl Strat and a Rubenreza Strat, except maybe that Ronnie can play it a lot better.
***** Amen
rubenreza should
Or Amp ......you could look up Blackface Clean Tone and his name would pop right up .....killer
Perfection! He makes us follow and enjoy every single note! Great musicians with him!

He's lived in Groton, MA for many years, I'm lucky I live not far from there, I've seen him soo many times over the years playing locally here.
Ronnie Earl and Roy Buchanan are the two best IMO.
"Exactamundo"
Superstar!!!!!!
So cruisy. So cool. So nice. Thank you 🙏
Amazing. First time I saw Ronnie was at Lupo's Heartbreak Hotel in Providence with Roomful of Blues. I was hooked. Saw him with The Broadcasters at the Last Call Saloon so many times. When Ronnie's foot starts stompin' LOOK OUT!

There's a reason he's known amongst his peers as The Master's Master.
He was feeling it that night.

BRUCE. KATZ.
How 'bout a hand for the Hammond man....
This is not The Broadcasters?
Very SRV ish...very good!!!!!
Very Ronnie Earlish
To compare does not dimish each artist in my opinion.
May even augment.... :-)
