Tbf to Ellum... millions of years ago, everything was bigger... due to higher oxygen levels, there were literally giant insects and snakes etc, so to assume there were giant frogs, is not stupid tbh.

He is not right, some animals were much bigger but some were actually smaller. it is just evolution, things did not get smaller they just changed and in some cases that means shrinking but in just as many cases they get bigger too.
It was funny when randy was like makes no sense sharks getting smaller, when that is literally what they did

This has been one off the best podcast I've ever seen
Conversation at the beginning was painful 😭 Most creatures were much bigger due to a higher concentration of oxygen so Ellums not really wrong in saying creatures have gotten smaller.
I don’t know why, but this is my favorite podcast so far. Something about them just sitting with friends and talking about random shit and the fact that there was a couple tho, favorite pod.😃😃😃

Ellum is right about the big frogs/crocodiles/dinosaurs because the atmosphere used to have higher oxygen content so it could support larger species better.

Less oxygen in our atmosphere generally equates to smaller creatures. While we do have the largest animal ever (blue whale), most species have shrunk over time, due to many factors.
At one point before dinos, there was even Massive Bugs (we talking 3 foot long dragon flys), but they'd die now due to lack of oxygen.
In more recent years (a few thousand years), there were bears probably 1.5 times the size of polar bears, but they were beaten out by the smaller, more efficient bears and possibly hunted by humans aswell.
So yeah. Species have generally gotten smaller with time, due to less oxygen, efficiency with hunting and even because of humans.

I would argue that it mostly depended on the environment and dominant species... I mean mammals like shrew were smaller during the Cretaceous period but eventually grew to become bigger and the dominant species.

Right a chicken burger an chicken sandwich are different. A burger contains a minced chicken patty where as the sandwich contains a single fried section (breast, thigh) of chicken x
