    Excellent review of keto backpacking meals. I really appreciate you saying the brands & where you can get the products. Also, the net carbs of each!

    I'm going to look for those Jolly Ranchers! I love the Next Mile Meals, although I've found I need to divide them because I get too full. I make a trail mix of macadamias, pecans, and almonds (all salted) and throw in some Lilly's dark chocolate chips. It gets kinda chunky when the chips melt, but oh so good!

      I forgot to mention - have you tried any of the Legendary Foods? They have flavored almonds and nut butters that are individually packaged and they are awesome! A little pricey, but what convenient food is, right? You might want to check them out for your next trip. I have a bunch ready to go if we ever get out of jail!

    Very good. My wife makes me keto cookies. I dehydrate keto meals but I want to supplement with purchasing meals. I'll look into some of those snacks. Thanks!

    Great options for KETO... My wife is on the KETO diet. No need for a diet for me, work is like a gym workout almost every day. Thank you for sharing, take care Jason.

    I didn’t realize Packit Gormet is now offering Keto food. Love the Next Mile Meals - but I’ve found they are too much for me to eat when backpacking. I brought half my food home I packed for the High Sierra Trail last year. I was NOT thrilled with schlepping all that food out going up the backside of Whitney!

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Next Mile are sure tasty though! Sometimes I will repackage my meals, and anything that is too big, I will break into 2 bags.

    Lots of great stuff in here. Got to add some sardines to that list though.😁 I'm a fan of everything, accept the meals. Just haven't tried them...dang they're pricey. Convenience is sometimes worth the price though. I'll yield at some point.😋

      Not a fan of the Sardines, but maybe i can find one with a decent flavor.

      @@HuckOutdoors haha...wondered if that might be the case. The pack they sell at Costco is pretty good. Almost light eating a can of tune, but fattier. Package in olive oil.

    Great Great video , was worried about how to eat on the trail , been hiking for years and have stocked up on mountain house, and was wondering what to do as at one time I thought calories and carbs got u thru the day especially on long mile/big elevation days , anyway thanks , got a large AT section comming up this fall

  • @WealthandTravelonaDime

    Quest bars are waaaaay too sweet and will give you explosive diarrhea if you're the slightest bit sensitive to sugar alcohols. La Banderita has zero net carb tortillas (Wal Mart). Ocean's Halo makes yummy Sriracha or Maui Onion flavored seaweed snacks (Costco or Amazon). I recently discovered Brachs makes sugar-free cinnamon disks (Wal Mart) I also like stick pepperoni or pillow packs of Mama Cozzi's sliced pepperoni from Aldi. They also sell precooked bacon in a vacuum pack. LOVE me some bacon and it's a lightweight surge of energy. :)

    wow tasty info hip hip

  • @gracefulonthetrail2244

    I’ve always wondered if I lose weight can I add more to my pack? 😂 Not sure how that works. 🤷🏻‍♀️ What is the texture of the Epic chicken sriracha bar? I didn’t buy the bison because the reviews said it’s not solid and it’s like chopped meat pressed together and it falls apart. Is the chicken the same?

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      I haven't noticed that. It is pressed meat.

    • @ColemanOutdoors
      @ColemanOutdoors Před 4 lety

      I believe the Epic bars are described as a pemmican...which is basically meat mixed with stuff, so not a jerky. I liked the bison, but the chicken one Jason shows is horrible. 😋 Just my opinion.
      Epic bars full of great stuff and a great keto food.

    those quest bars are not keto friendly. and a lot of the other things have so much crap in them, chemicals, bad oils, etc - they shouldn't be allowed to be called food

  • @GGCustomArt
    @GGCustomArt Před 3 lety

    None of those bars are keto approved. not at all. Plus all these big brands throwing keto on all their products. Be weary people, know your body.

    • @HuckOutdoors
      @HuckOutdoors  Před 3 lety +1

      Some of the bars are actually Keto friendly. If they weren't I wouldn't be eating them. Thanks for watching. I actually eat some newer bars from kiss my keto, which are delicious!

    • @GGCustomArt
      @GGCustomArt Před 3 lety

      @@HuckOutdoors I shall rephrase. If you’re eating more than one of those bars in a day, you’re ketosis levels will start to drop, and you will not be in ketosis anymore. For people who are concerned about staying in ketosis and not the fad diet called keto, these bars are not ketosis friendly for the body. Someone really needs to make a video of testing their ketone levels while testing multiple keto labeled items. It’d be really cool if you could. I’m seriously not trying to knock you, I am a serious person looking for the best tips and everything else in your video was much better than a lot of other backpacking and trail keto videos. It just gets me upset that curators never explain that. Not all keto labeled food items are really keto friendly unless you know how to use them.
