  • Gabby Thomas Battles Dina Asher-Smith & Rhasidat Adeleke || Women’s 200m - London Diamond League 2024
    Ladies and gentlemen, the highly anticipated 2024 London Diamond League is finally here with us, going down this Saturday, 20th April at the London Stadium. And for sure, the women’s 200 meters is one of the events expected to headline this meet. With a strong lineup that includes the likes of America’s sensation Gabby Thomas and of course Great Britain’s favorite Dina Asher-Smith, among other big names, you definitely can’t doubt the possibility of a new world lead being produced in the women’s 200 meters.
    Headlining this race is world number one, Gabby Thomas. With a season-best of 21.78 seconds in the women’s 200 meters clocked at the 2024 U.S. Olympic trials, you can tell Gabby is the woman to beat. Gabby Thomas who stands as the World 200 meters silver medalist and the fourth fastest in the all-time with a PB of 21.60 seconds is coming into this race with one goal in mind… And that goal guys is to strengthen her case as the gold medal favorite at the Paris Olympic Games, considering that her archrival Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson has been struggling to achieve fine form this Olympic season.

    Adeleke is better in the 400m, also is amazing in relays. Looking forward to the Irish 400m relay teams in Paris.

      I think the problem is in her attitude, which she admitted herself. She is 'too comfortable sometimes' and she runs the 200 now like the 400m, trying to win with the minimal effort! In her Monaco 400m, her intermediate 200m was probably faster than this one! She doesn't like running against thin-air, so the worse possible lane was lane 8 for her. She needs a target, who looks dangerous and when Julien was suddenly side by side with her, she got a nasty surprise that the race for first place was already finished for her.
      Also, she believes that every race is different dependent on how the opponents run. This is true for the middle distance races, but not so much for sprints, unless you are too comfortable and want to win with the minimal effort, slowing up before the line! She should just follow the words of her coach and not question him. He says she has a lot of opinions ( she'd make a good lawyer!) and often makes her own decisions.
      I think the excitement of the Olympics will force her to go all out... which is the behaviour that has brought her the best results. But this is just my opinion.

      @user-jq7cs3ug6m Having a good temperament is important when you have to rely on coaches. An objective athlete will know when to shut up and when it's time for a new coach if they can't.
      I haven't watched her closely relative to other athletes, but I did notice her kill Klaver in a relay, struggle with Kaszmarek in the flat, which she always does, and I noticed in this race she was behind rather early.
      Thomas wasn't great early, but Thomas' power and fitness are insane when she is motivated like she has been lately. She is Superwoman when she needs to be.
      Adeleke, I will say, is incredible with a team. She flies. I do think she really enjoys the relays because she is always so strong. She doesn't make mistakes in changeover.
