These warranty stickers should be made illegal in every country. It's disgusting that companies force you to not even open your own device. I'm talking specifically about laptops, where you might want to open them up to upgrade the RAM or clean the fans.
A personal case in point: a screw holding my HDD got loose and started rattling around in my laptop, but the warranty sticker wouldn't let me open the back of my own laptop.

Well for starters, these disclaimers are illegal in the states, it’s just woefully unenforced. Secondly, they’d have to prove that you did something to actually damage it. The fact you removed the sticker does not prove that. Now, if you combine a sticker that doesn’t have the disclaimer with other facts, like there’s an oddly broken resistor or something, then they may be able to show you damaged the device in your attempt to repair it. Unfortunately, that requires you to go to court, and you probably don’t have the money to fight these companies for a simple warranty on like a laptop or something.

I agree with you on just about everything, but it can be a problem when it comes laptops specifically. Even some desktops, a few manufacturers (looking at you Dell) are still trying to pull this nonsense. I'm not allowed to send out our company computers unless the hard drive has been scrubbed or removed. Just pulling the drive out is a way faster process than backing up and zeroizing multiple terabytes, and it's the only option if the computer won't boot. Even for a personal computer it's a good measure, there are plenty of stories of tech support accessing people nudes, and if like most people you use a password manager you can't guarentee every account it is storing credentials for isn't compromised.
I can tell you from experience Dell will still deny a warranty on the basis of the anti tamper stickers (at least as of ~7 years ago). Honestly worked out for me though as it pissed the boss off enough we now build our own towers and I get paid for tinkering I enjoy doing. It's probably out there but I have never seen anti tamper stickers one servers that are significantly more expensive.

I need to clean dust out of my system, that necessitates opening it up... do you really think warranty should be void just to clear dust out of a system? Fun fact about some warranties, they are dependent on keeping a product clean, so allowing dust to build up to a point where it actually interferes with the ability of the system to function (either choking out cooling or worse shorting something out) could be grounds to deny the claim. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
What if I upgrade the RAM or storage after the initial purchase? sure, the brand or store I bought the system from does not have a warranty on the parts I insert, but as for the rest of the machine, if it hasn't expired, the law says it is still valid on the rest of the system.

@@adamsfusion they still put stickers on them in the same types of places they just no longer say “void” or mention “warranty” anymore. They’re still used but in a different way. There’s also rules written into when you purchase a console that if you take it apart and botch it up, you void your warranty, so it basically does the same thing now. Like if I bought a brand new ps5 and then took it apart to replace a…let’s say hdmi port, and fucked it up worse and tried to send it in, they’d be like “no”
But yes, you are correct for the most part, but almost all refurbishers put it on still, like DKOldies is a big one that still does and idk how they get away with it honestly.

If you look closely when he removes the sticker it leaves behind a tell tale mark, usually these warranty void stickers have what's essentially a single use adhesive so they'll never stick back on properly, or they're like a dual layered plastic/vinyl where you peel a transparent cover off and to remove the sticker you need to destroy it
If you google hologram warranty sticker you'll find examples of the latter
You could obviously stick it back on with some other adhesive, but 99% of the time it'll be obvious

The sad thing is that you can and should let these stickers scare you because the warranty voiding is enforced by the company and you will have not the time nor money nor will to fight them in court about it. They know this and it’s the main reason they still do it. Companies won’t honor your warranty if that sticker is broken, period. If you sue them they will pay a fine incomparable to the profits they made with the policy, you will have wasted months of not years of your life for little to no return, your lawyers will make off with millions, and the company will go right back to doing what they were doing.
Putting the sticker on in the first place should be criminal.
