Hi everyone, we hope you enjoy this “kitchen-fire-side” chat with Kevin Callan! It was an absolute pleasure meeting him, Kristine and his daughter in person! Also, please don’t forget to check out his video with Julia and I over on his channel: czcams.com/video/xPUfpYhhYCs/video.html and be sure to subscribe to him for fantastic camping videos and outdoor adventures! You can also find a link to his latest book “Once Around Algonquin: An Epic Canoe Journey” in the description - highly recommend it - about his journey through one of the most difficult canoe routes in Algonquin Park.

Thoroughly enjoyed your interview with Kevin Callan. He is such a great writer and his tips and reviews of each paddle helps me and my husband plan for our next Algonquin adventures. Loved all your difficult questions you asked and enjoyed all of the stories of Kevin. We hope to get to have Kevin sign our book one day.
There is nothing like going backpacking into the wilderness, away from the maddening crowds and disconnecting from the grid. Being one with nature, enjoying an early morning coffee while watching the mist in the lake and a lovely loon call is something we can never find anywhere else. We only have 1 book of Kevin's which is a Paddlers Guide to Algonquin Park and we hope to be able to do all his recommended loops. We are more mature campers, (57 and 54 years) and enjoy everything about canoeing, camping and discovering new lakes. I am an artist and paint mainly landscapes and my inspirations are all of our experiences and memories while canoeing. Last year, we finally bit the plunge and bought our very own canoe, which we name "Kermie" because she is green. So far, we have visited at least 12 lakes this summer/fall. Since we both work and get few weeks off, every chance we can get to canoe, we GO!! Yippee! All the very best and good luck to you , Cedar and Julia!!!

Excellent Job Chris, I have watched many of Kevin's videos and listened to his presentations. You did a fantastic job of interviewing him. I now feel I have a better understanding of him and why we feel the need to do the FUN things in the Wilderness that we do. Thanks

My wife is a film maker/ media producer and also has the ability to cut straight to someone's soul in interviews. This was a great match of a great interviewer and someone who is great at being interviewed. Both under appreciated skills.

Like Kevin, I began my life in the "wilderness" as a pre-teen. How can anyone answer the question, "the best or worst trip" Each trip regardless are good. I count my blessings every day. I have had a charmed life. I should not be alive today because of the stupid mistakes I have made. Now at 70 years young I have become a little smarter and still enjoy each trip. Life is so fragile, enjoy every day! Chis, I do love your channel and videos. So many places to visit and see and life is just not long enough to do them all. I always look forward to the next trip.

Note to Julia: I flipped a copy of your video on Kevin's channel to one of your outdoor ed teachers to whom you gave a shout-out, 'Mr.' Betteridge, and he was pleased to see it. Thank you for doing that! As a retired outdoor ed teacher we love to see our former students outdoors enjoying life in the outdoors!

This is really awesome. I always wanted to do the canoe camping. But I was never exposed to rivers or lakes when growing up, so my knowledge and experience are extremely limited. So for me, channels like this is immensely helpful and perhaps life saving. Just wanted to give you a shout out for sharing your life, Chris, and sharing a talk with Kevin. I dream of one day being able to do an epic canoe journey myself!

That was a great video. It reminds me of my youth quite a bit, teachers wacking me with a yardstick when I wrote left-handed.
Always had a large group canoe trip, with everyone in Grumman canoes in May right after ice break up.
Then summer camping hiking canoeing in the Parry sound area then our annual long canoe trip in Algonquin with no bugs in August. Followed by several long camping trips and snowshoeing trips in the winter.
Although I never became an avid fisherman, I just didn't have the heart to kill all those beautiful trout.
Thanks again for a great video cast.

Yes, alive!!! Being immersed in the wilderness makes me so feel alive in each and every moment! I felt a bit more connected , Kevin, when you shared that sentiment. ...And Chris and Kevin, watching your interviews and videos has the ability to bring me back to those moments and feelings when I have been present among towering trees, gliding across lakes blanketed in fog, or listening to the haunting calls of loons at sunset. I must admit, I am not a whisky drinker, but I think I would enjoy a sip or two around the campfire with Kevin!! Great, great interview Chris and I also enjoyed Kevin's "Fireside Chat" with you!!
