  • Rarer than hens' teeth, this 1975 Imperial Le Baron Crown Coupe hails from the estate of Richard Carpenter, of "The Carpenters" fame. He bought this car new for his parents, and it's got a mere 17K original miles on the clock. This must be the finest, all original car of its kind on the planet.

      No kidding. That was also a time when a luxury car had a luxury ride. Now "luxury" cars especially German have terrible rides on anything but the smoothest pavements which of course there is very little of. The blame lies in the super stiff suspension and low profile high inflation rated tire. My S600 has a terrible ride compared to my H/D 3/4 ton Chevrolet 4X4 pick up if you can believe it. True!!

      1973 Imperial holds the record as longest non-limousine car. Same car as your 1972, but with extra rubber bumper guards to attempt meeting the DOT's new bumper laws. There wasn't a convenient way to add new bumpers & bumper shocks to those Imperials, so I'm guessing that's why it went to the C-body platform in 74.

    Thank you for posting this video! These were gorgeous automobiles!!! If I might make ONE correction. There was ONLY the Imperial LeBaron model series (in two and four door models) in '75. The "Crown" series Imperials was dropped in 1971. So, yours is a 1975 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron two door coup. In other words, there is no "Crown" in the car's name. That said, the LeBaron series was always the higher-end series of the two so, yours effectively came with all the options offered for that year. AND '75 was (regrettably) the LAST year for Imperial production. For '76 Chrysler took the same vehicle (and engines) and offered it as the New Yorker Brougham - yes, at a lower price-point but the trick worked as sales of this vehicle went from 8830 Imperials in '75 to over 40,000 New Yorker units in 1976 which greatly aided Chrysler return to profitability that year.

    • @joeseeking3572
      @joeseeking3572 Před rokem +1

      No so grasshopper. The Crown package was a $569 option for the coupe. Regualr coupes had a 4 window hardtop design, the Crown package got you the canopy vinyl roof with padded fixed rear quarter window. You'd think almost all of them had that option, but every now and they you do see a standard hardtop coupe. Similar thing with the New Yorker, where the same treatment was offered as the St. Regis.

    I had a very similar car, a 77 Newport, with the fender skirts and padded landau top. One of the most unusual features of this car is the seek function on the radio. Under the tuning window, there are 2 large rectangular buttons, "LOCAL' and "DISTANT". When you press these, it will tune to the next clear radio station. Local will only stop at strong signals, distant at weaker signals also. Since it's an analog radio with a mechanical tuning mechanism, there is a motor inside the radio which will turn the knob. As if that weren't enough, there are 2 buttons on the floor. One is the normal high-beam button, the other also activates the radio seek function, so you can be driving down the road, hit the floor button and tune to the next station without ever taking your hands off the wheel.

    What I love about those cars is something the new generation & new car makers do not understand, seeing the hood & ornament at the the hood edge is a great feeling by itself, you don't find this in today's cars, you even don't see the hood in today's stupid cars ! I owned some classics before and know that feeling. thanks for sharing this video

    It certainly has the WOW factor and those minimal 17 Ks ! However like many of the stunning detroiters of that time. They were basically eunuchs. Still endowed with the huge CID v8s, but had the power ripped away. Leaving eg.. 318s 90 hp, 440 210 hp, Cadillacs 500 215 hp.. Horse Power was gutted from all detroiters by 1978. Doesn't alter the fact they were beautiful looking cars. Though again somewhat like a huge rough neck wrestler, till he speaks, and sounds like Micky Mouse wife Minnie. I'm only pissed because of what happened to these legendary, iconic, fabulous highway beasts. Keep up the great videos. Thank you

      Good choice on the Electra. These Chrysler luxury cars just reeked 75 year old unlike the GM equivalents. Interiors so tacky and cheap like a Ford too. We were the sh*t back then too with a power sunroof (when they were an expensive option and not EVERY car had one).
