  • When choosing river rocks for your shower floor, it is always a good idea to seal the rocks so they can fight off stains. In this video I am using 511 Impregnator sealer from Miracle.

      Yes I would like to know also the guy the put our shower floor in did not do it properly or seal it properly and now we have a leak down through. Do we have to rip everything up or will the flooring underneath the stone dry and we can just put this sealant on? Please respond thank you

      How did your shower floor turn out? Did the enhancer give the rocks a bit of a wet look?

  • @cynthiavillacreses819

    Question, I noticed once the sealer is applied, it will darken or appear wet. Does it stay that way.? I have a dark grey mosaic slate tile that I thought was black but only looks black when wet. So trying to decide if I return or keep and seal.

    I’ve heard you should seal before grout and after(grout has to dry and cure completely). We used Mapei ultra color plus FA for grouting. Should we seal again and if so should we be more careful and only put the seal on the natural stone? The grout bag says no need to seal so we don’t want to mess the grout up. Thank you so much for your help and this video!

    • @buildingwithben5637
      @buildingwithben5637  Před 4 lety +5

      If you sealed before had then there is no need to seal afterwards. The Mapei Ultra Color FA, which is my favorite grout by the way, doesn't need to be sealed. If it is a very porous stone it needs to he sealed twice a year. If not, just once a year. You can use the sealer over the grout. Hope that helped Jessica. I have two CZcams channels so then other one is my main one and I don't see the comments on this channel unless I log in. Sorry for the delay.

    I have a question, I just bought natural stone pebbles flat cut for the shower and I was told that maybe for a year they will look good but after that discoloration will occur. Does this sealing technique work for longer? Could you explain the steps of installing these? First you lay them down with mortar and then seal and add grout?

    • @buildingwithben5637
      @buildingwithben5637  Před 2 lety

      You want to seal them first unless you can avoid staining them during install. Unfortunately being that it is a shower and your washing dirt off, eventually the stain sealer will fade and discoloration will happen. Especially with light colored stone and grout.

    Add the name of the sealer you used to your video title. It’ll help get likes and viewers. Best sealer to use for porous stone. Highly recommend. Always use pre grout, will not seal properly otherwise.

    Great video thanks for sharing. Question: I just got installed pebble stones in the shower floor and niche and the guy put charcoal grout over them discoloring the stones (originally white, light grey and some dark grey). Obviously it’s totally different then what I expected, is there a way to fix the problem? I bought the aqua mix heavy duty tile and grout cleaner but not seeing results…….also been thinking to redo the floor again…..what’s your thoughts…..thank you very much in advance

    I've been unimpressed by the 511 seal & enhance. Our shower floor lasts about 6-9 months before getting cloudy and needing to be resealed. Have done 3-4 treatments over the last 2-3 years and am looking for something better.

      Well you chose natural stone. That's part of the deal. You're walking on the floor when showering rubbing off the sealer. It's amazing it even last more than 3 months.

    New viewer great video I have pebbles or river rocks in my shower same as displayed in this video the only problem is upon buying this home the lazy rehab contractor did not seal the pebbles now a white haze looking power appears when drying but the water drainage is good. Please tell me what can I to combat this issue from proper cleaner, grout and sealer which I will use the same brand in this video. Thanks.

    • @buildingwithben5637
      @buildingwithben5637  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Char. Unfortunately, since they were not sealed, the stone is not stained and it won't be fixed. If it only happens when dry you could buy a wet look sealer and try to see if it hides the haze. This is all I can suggest. Try this on a small area with the "wet look" sealer and see if it works. Hope that helps and have a great day.

      Once sealed you cannot remove it. Stained within the stone. In hindsight you should have checked a few stones to see what the finish looks like. Z

    Can I use this product on the grout as well? My tile guy didn't seal the river rocks prior to doing the grout and told me to use a stone enhancer twice a year. My river rocks are the exact same ones you have and they are fading just after 1 month. I also noticed a little bit of mold growing on the grout? I cleaned it with vinegar and dawn and dried it really well, but after about 5 days of not using the shower it still looks like the grout is wet in some areas. I put a fan on and was hoping it would dry it out completely so I can apply a sealer on the stones. What do you recommend? Thank you so much!

    Building with Ben.......... I have river rocks in my shower floor and we never sealed them. It’s been about 7 years and I believe water is seeping through... can I seal it now after cleaning the floor...... what do you suggest??

    • @buildingwithben5637
      @buildingwithben5637  Před 4 lety

      Well at this point the water has gotten into the pan. It depends on how the person who did it pitched the pan. I do a pitch under the liner so if water gets under there it still finds its way to the drain. If not the water sits there and starts to smell after some time. You could seal it now if there are no issues.

    The sealer says it os good for 20 years? Maybe I have a different kind but same brand? Or maybe they are just over selling it? After 10 years of re-sealing twice a year, I am worried about build up. Is there on that actually lasts longer?

    • @buildingwithben5637
      @buildingwithben5637  Před 6 měsíci

      Sealers are just thin layers of protection. If you're using the shower daily, there is no sealer that lasts longer. It all depends on the type of stone and how porous it is. Honestly, natural stone on a shower floor is a very bad idea. So know, it's a pain in the but, add your discovering even before install. So why now choose something else. They have so many options of porcelain tile that mimics natural stone without all the maintenence.

    Aren't you suppose to seal the stone before thin setting the stones in place. You are are not only sealing the stones but also the thin set. The grout needs to bond to the thin set?

    • @buildingwithben5637

      Grout doesn't bond to anything. Its cement. Its just fills in the joints. Yes, you can seal the stones beforehand.
