Cristiano Ronaldo was branded 'too skinny' as a youngster - and that pushed him to put in the hard work to become the world's best.
Ballon d'Or holder Ronaldo has admitted that his remarkable rise up the standard was in doubt as a youngster when he was touted as not being big enough to make it.
Ronaldo scored an unprecedented 66 goals in all competitions during last season for Real Madrid as he became the first man to claim the world player of the year award off Messi for the first time in three years.
In an inspirational video with Nike, Ronaldo opened up about his upbringing and the work that he had to put in to become one of the most recognisable footballers on the planet.
He said: "You have to work so hard, I do this every day. This is why I have been at the top level for many, many years.
"It's not by coincidence. I do so much extra work outside of the pitch. When I was 12 years old most of the people told me 'Cristiano you are a very talented player but you are too skinny'.
"So I put it in my mind that my body can improve. With dedication and hard work in the gym I improved a lot on that - at the end of the day it's down to the person's mindset."
Ronaldo's career went from strength-to-strength when he made the move to Real Madrid from Manchester United - and he seemingly has continued to get bigger in size.
A similar level of growth has been evident in Gareth Bale since he made the switch to La Liga.
Ronaldo believes that the pace and power which he now possesses has helped him to becoming one of the world's most feared players.
He added: "Athleticism also means a huge lot - these small details make a huge difference. So it's very important to do this work and it's going really well for me.
"That's why I'm always in good shape all year round. I do that kind of work, because I have to, it's part of me." - Sport

I am doing really good now bro there's been a huge change I've lost weight and gained muscle I also got put into my school shotput team after winning gold in the sports festival of this year I am looking way better and can also fit into clothes that I couldn't fit into before 😂 I feel way better now and also started getting some gyals 😉 still have a looooong way to go and won't stop till I get to my dream physique,my goat helped me in my journey he didn't teach me to accept defeat and cry but to stand up and work till your last breath and I will do that thanks for your concern brother 😇

So when people say that Ronaldo is a trained product and Messi is a natural talent I tend to disagree, because even when both Messi and Ronaldo were young, people saw that they would become great players. Even when he was still a youngster, his long legs, height (Cris is very tall for a footballer who is not a goalkeeper), broad chest, and massive back were clearly visible. I remember watching a documentary where experts on the body, human biology, and physiology studied Cristiano, and they said that he is a naturally perfect athlete. Born for this. He has antelope legs - very agile and fast, perfect for a sprinter/runner, with less body fat than a supermodel, and the rest is perfectly sculpted muscles. Add to that his sky-high talent, undying ambition, willpower, drive, and crazy work ethic - and it's no wonder Cristiano has become one of the greatest footballers of all time. But with his physique, dominant personality, and ambition, he could probably become great in any sport he chose. Cristiano is unique.
Btw, I saw the old family photos, and it's pretty clear Cristiano got his physique and ability after his late veteran father, plus after the family from Africa on the father's side (Cris' great-great-grandmother came to Portugal from Africa). His father was a soldier during the Portugal-Angola war and he had a great physique too. Tall, broad chest and massive arms, strong legs.
