  • Dale Jr. and co-host Mike Davis relive a busy weekend for Dale. First, he tells all about his trip to Darlington Raceway to pace the field with his restored Chevrolet Nova that his dad once raced. He talks about the whole experience including telling old racing stories with family during the car ride down, seeing the industry’s reaction in the garage, and what it was like getting on track. Both Dale and Mike then address the disappointment of NASCAR on FOX not showing the Nova on track.

I’ve followed the 2 + years of progress you’ve made in restoring this beautiful DEI Chevrolet Nova, from the day at the auction to the day you drove it in front of thousands of Dale Earnhardt fans in the stands at Darlington and those who were only able to see it on CZcams. I’ve seen the restoration photos while it was being torn down and I’ve seen you run it around the JRM campus. It’s such a historically IMPORTANT vehicle in your father’s legacy, and one day soon I’ll be seeing it in person, as I saw it the day it won at Daytona.

I would loved to have seen the car. That alone would have sold more tickets and had more tv viewers. I’ve always said the older cars have so much more character which goes without saying.

I would've loved to see the suite being worn. It's a memory my dad has of watching Sr dive that car. But I totally understand why Jr didn't. it's really awesome of Jr not wanting attention to himself an having it on the car. Watching it from home they didn't show the nova. Is Jr motorsports gonna have it on out or the hall of Fame gonna have it?

@@johntalley6028 dang, too bad u didn't grab it back then lol, that thing would of been awesome, There's a guy in my little town and he got a Darrell Waltrip 88 car.. he says its real and back in the day his buddy bought it from junior Johnson and it was all smashed up, he said junior sold them the car and fenders and stuff to fix and they did, and his friend died it something and left it to him.. I kinda believe him cuz he's a old dude and seems like he wouldn't lie,, but I also think him and his buddy just tried to build a old monte Carlo into a race car and didn't know what to do with it so they just painted it up like a old junior Johnson owned dw car lol.. idk I can't really tell if it was really raced or not.. It looks like it was

Love the car but i have 2 questions. Was beating down the floor under the seat something Dale did on all his cars even at Childress? Also I know few people like them but why not put the car back with the original style V6 engine it ran with? I loved those old V6 motors back in the day.

I did see --on tv.. Jr bow his head in the #8 car
during the Prayer & National Anthem ,
and so I took a picture of the tv..
not because I knew of any controversy,
I captured the moment for myself and simply too cherish that moment
that one time Jr. got to have with this car before a race @ the lady in black.
to hear gentleman start your engines and to Fire up the willing engine -responding with that Roar...
Back in the Later days of late model sportsman & In the early days of the Busch Series
I lived a few doors down from some of the best builders of these type of cars
    here in Hampton, Virginia.
(Diane Teel #19 first female Busch drivers car was at the fox crossing shell station 1/8th mile away.
The best appearing car award winner at Martinsville Skip Jutras#89
at his 4 car garage out behind his house 1/8th in the opposite direction.
Bobby Creech, Bill Champion #10 Hampton, Bob Shreeves #9 Norfolk, Elton Sawyer #43 Chesapeake)
just a few of my role models watching races at Langley Speedway or Southside
... these cars are the stars of my life !!
all the drivers have their places as well
BUT>>> the cars have etched them selves into my memory forever
engrained in such a way that I began working at the local service station just down off
(Bob Segar's) main street actually Walter Allen's Service Center pumping union 76gas
driving tow trucks at the races and selling race fuel and
where I purchased A 1973 Mercury Cougar for the upcoming 150 lap Enduro
for 50 bucks entry fee and 50 bucks for the car i put in a steel cage and had my first racecar .
    in august 1991
    my first race as a driver/mech/owner/hauler driver// etc..etc.. etc..
my 2 door Granada daily driver had an Ernie Elliot 468lift 280 duration 11.5/1 ratio 302cid engine rated at 750 hp@8,000 rpm 1988-1989 I graduating from Diesel school with a state championship in VICA and a scholarship to Ohio Diesel .. "but I chose" (past tense) to not make a choice and that was a choice in itself I tried to pursue racing at the local level and worked from the tire shops and dealerships to boat building and steel fabrication to learn the skills I wanted to master
I have been fortunate and was mentored by the most giving people
of their time and knowledge of their life's wisdom and skill ..
so my memories are as Elvis stated sweetened thru the ages - just like wine..
I wouldn't have missed it for the world.. said Ronnie Milsap once in a song,
Once in every life ... someone comes along,
And you came to me ... it was almost like a song.
You were in my heart ... right where you belong,
And we were so in love ... it was almost like a song.
January through December ... we had such a perfect year,
Then the flames became a dying ember ...
All at once you weren't here.
Now my broken heart ... cries for you each night,
And it's almost like a song ... but it's much too sad to write.
Now my broken heart ... cries for you each night,
And it's almost like a song ... but it's much to sad to write ...
    Much too sad to write.
thanks for the moments Dale Sr.
I miss you like so many do..
and hey maybe I would have seen you in Richmond someday Jr. ,
maybe I should take up bowling again ... finally..?
pull out my old 3 ball ,its been 20 years since I have attempted to throw it for a strike...
I remember I used to go to the "This Week in Nascar on tues. night with Eli Gold"
when the races came to RIR.
I would go and "watch the radio show" at the holiday inn..
just to go bowling afterwards like the mrn crew ..
just to bump into my heroes ..the broadcasters, the car builders, the dew crew, and the driver's...
long live the throwback @ Darlington
    and may we fans
show up with a throwback scheme of our own...in mind and spirit
"live to make memories that last and help another along the way"...
