He went to a Jesuit high school, was the valedictorian of his class, and sits on its board of directors. That doesn’t happen unless you understand the religion in a meaningful capacity and treat it with the reverence and respect it deserves.
In other words, he easily could have started going to church every Sunday for posterity, make up some story about how he “found Jesus,” and tell people he’s a “devout Christian”. It certainly would be much easier.
Instead of another “Nikki Haley” or “Bobby Jindal,” I’d much rather have the guy who is upfront, has a sincere and informed spiritual outlook, and understands both two faiths well enough to know where to find the common ground and overlap.
And I can tell you this: Washington DC is full of “devout Christians” who earned one-way tickets to hell a long time ago.

There’s taco trucks all over in my city where people don’t have to pay tax, have licenses to operate, etc. But if it was a legal citizen you’d get fined and taxed for such practices. It’s all extremely backwards and it’s sad to see. I’m only 22 and I live at home still (luckily) so I’m just trying to save up and build a better life somewhere else one day
