I'm a plumbing apprantice from Germany and I've always struggled with bending (I'm in 3rd year now). This video has taught me more in 8 and a half minutes than my teacher did in 5 days. Splendid work, keep doing what you're doing. Love it.
Instead of making sure you have a piece of copper to line it up or having to measure the distance everytime you can just take the guide out and use push the roller down on the pipe not pushing with pressure just to hold and make sure your lines in the center of that and you'll get a 90 central to the line everytime 👍
As an ex pipefitter/welder, there's not enough guys bending pipes out there. I do maintenance now, and therefore come across lots of installs and too many use bends/elbows in their works. A pulled bend is very fast, a pulled bend never leaks, a pulled bend looks nicer, a pulled bend causes less friction on a system, and puts less strain on a circulating pump. I am aware if the 70/100mm method, but I still use a square on the underside of the pipe to align my mark up to the inside of the benders former, old habits die hard for me. It's nice to see like minded people, the type of guys watching this channel and its contents, show me there's others like me who are curious enough to bother trying to improve, even after years of work as plumbers. I remember changing a thermo-couple on a commercial 6 burner range years ago, all I had on me was a 'super universal' replacement 900mm long. Between the burner and the gas valve was perhaps only 150mm, I got a rolling pin and wrapped the thermo-couple around it to make a mini spring like unit. The apprentice I had at the time looked puzzled and asked me why I bothered doing that to something that would never be seen by anyone. "Because in a few years time when it needs to be changed, the guy changing it will think that a quality engineer worked on it" I replied, thats why. He took a few years before he told me he "got it". Im going to do a service Thurs on a commercial site, there is a one pipe system there, the pipe is mainly 2" iron and its bent around numerous bay windows. I've been going there for approx 10 years, I still look at it in awe, knowing the craftsmanship that went into that installation, it's immaculate. The guys on here need to be taking on apprentices, this content is what needs to be passed on to the next generation of our trade, how to show the public we are professional and their paying for our attention to detail, knowledge and skills. Back in the 80's I used to sub to big builders, Wimpey Douglas etc, their plumbers were old style, trilby hats, bib n brace overalls, shirts with dicky bows they projected an image. No ripped jeans with silicone wiped over them, they looked the part. If we want people to pay us a good price for our work, we need to go back to dressing the part to impress the customers, trust me, people treat you differently if you project the right image. Rant over 😁

Excellent Pete. I learnt the 70mm & 100mm for 15 & 22 pipe 90 degree bends. Further to this, I also use 35mm and 50mm marks back from the bend for 45-degree bends and 23mm and 35mm for 30-degree bends. I used to have it written on the arm of my bender as a quick reminder and was really useful as a guide to getting it perfect while learning the 'by eye' technique that comes with experience.

Brilliant video. No instructor I had has ever expanded on the pipe insert method explaining you can the use inner and outer edge to line up the spare tube in the former depending where you were able to measure from. Top job mate

Brilliant channel mate and love your videos. I feel like my pipe bender digs into the pipe a little bit,( more so on 15mm then 22mm ) on the hook, am I setting the pipe in correctly or do i have cheap benders? Any idea or tips please

Hi, does anyone know how to bend flat copper pipes? I understand I'd have to stuff the flat copper pipes with, like, fine sand so that kinks won't form when bending. But is there a specific tool to bend flat copper pipes with?
I've been bending copper, aluminum and steel pipe/tubing for 22 years and that trick never dawned on me. Can't wait to see the subsequent videos Awesome stuff😊😊

What bender do you use may i ask? In college the tutors have taught us that the pull back is 60mm for 15mm pipe and 88mm for 22mm pipe,pull back is basically 4 times the size of the pipe. And we use Irwin Hilmor. Will need to find out whether its 70&100 or 60&88. Great video man! Keep it up

You like me have had a good apprenticeship but surely if your out ther working in the field you should know how to bend pipe.what worrys me is you are showing anyone how to bend pipe a bit like a magician showing you how he did his magic trick if you want to help apprentices maybe you could work with the colleges

Zoran Rakic yes it works exactly the same for 22mm except the “hack” is 100mm back from your mark not 70mm
