    I was the driver of the 221's sent in to rescue the passengers, The picture show's the rear cab of the (Virgin) double set and show's how far into the tunnel we had to go to rescue people, over lapping the rear passenger door of the 350's with the front passenger door of the 221's, A wheelchair ramp was then placed across the gap to allow transfer from one train to the other.

    6:31 Stonehaven in 2020 was a landslide derailment with fatalities. So - still lessons to be learned regarding stability of embankments and cuttings as we get more extreme weather, and as we cut down vegetation to reduce leaves on the line.

    Interesting to here more details on the specifics about this incident, one of the points I have noticed myself regularly traveling on these units is with units 350233 and 350264, I believe when it came to the repairs only 4 cars in total were in need of repair (one from one jnit and three from the other, Im not sure which way round) however, if you happen to see 350264 or 233 now, look at the coach numbers and you will notice that 233 and 264 swapped one of the end coaches, which was to allow one full unit to continue running whilst one was away for repair, and clearly the swap back was never completed

      @Jakeso I believe some 170s/171s and some Voyagers also have mismatching however not due to accidents

    • @georgecivil8354
      @georgecivil8354 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @Battleskip You're right yes! In terms of class 170's, the Cross Country ones number 170618-623 used to be 518-523, but during covid era took the centre cars from ex-WMR Class 170's 170630-635, these thus becoming 530-535 with EMR. In regards to Voyagers, XC Class 221 number 136, 140, 141 and 144 are all now 4 cars. Originally, 141-144 were 4 cars (I belive correct me if my facts a bit off!) And then eventually 144 was sidelined as spare end cars with the 2 centre vehicles going to 142 and 143 to make up 5 car sets. 141 remained a 4 car unit. However, again during covid era, XC leased the 221144 spare cars from Avanti and took centre coach's from 221136/140 to make up an extra 4 car unit, so 221144 has a right mismatch of coaches! It's also worth noting that 221142/221143 are too mismatched, with one centre coach in each before from the aforementioned originally 4 car 221144 prior to being made redundant as spares! Hope this info was useful after the lengthy read! 😂

      @georgecivil8354 I believe ScotRail 170s were also a mess as number 170425 to 432 had one end coach from 170450-457 and vice versa.
      I would like to see the mess that the four coach XC Super Voyagers are but unfortunately where I live they only run early in the morning and very late at night so probably won't be able to.

      @@Danse_Macabre_125 Ah, interesting! Next time I find myself with one of them 170's I'll have to make a point of checking it out!
      As for the Voyagers yeah, would be nice if you got a chance to spot one of them, 142/143 are currently with Grand Central, shortened 136, 140, 141 with XC and the mishmashed 144 with XC also

    4:17 You can't uncouple without power? On older BREL trains fitted with tightlock you'd use the emergency uncoupling lever to release the coupler and figure things out from there. Not sure if the drum switch which normally controls the electrical connections can be manually operated (it has a handle but the training videos don't say anything about manually operating the drum switch)
