- On this Vlog Ralph spends the day with our Aviation Detail and rides in the chopper! They start off in the Hangar at Opa Locka Airport that we share with the United States Coast Guard. Patrolling in the helicopter from the sky, this vlog showcases the beautiful City of Miami.

You guys are in the Miami International Bravo no problem huh? Lol always to get that clearance. They sure hate civilian helicopter pilots coming near that Bravo. For the cops its easy. For a Robinson r44 they are like "get lost. What? Did you actually ask us if you could fly anywhere near the MIA Bravo? Yes here is where you are cleared. The shore. Way South Kendall. Or basically almost the Everglades that far West. Nice video. Edit: 10:45 The Grove by the water. Ive done that in a 44 no problem. Just like a quarter a mile further West its NO GO edit: actually like 1/8th of a mile further West its no go. Instructor I went with took videos of all. Even a police chopper taking off East with us from KTMB he got on video. Cool flight.

I wouldn't go that far to say it's actually law enforcement it's a bit of a stretch.

One thing I've noticed the pilots are carrying firearms. Is that for they can protect themselves when they land? I mean obviously, it's hard to shoot from the sky. lol
I believe all law enforcement pilots carry firearms. I know of CHP helicopters landing and taking suspects into custody on some pursuits.
They’re police officers. It’s a requirement. Regardless of aviation assignment.
@@JoeF-sr4um Yes, if a suspect is in an area unreachable to ground units then the helicopter might land and piolets take down the suspect

I gave the "government "goon from the local Bureau here in Nashville the run around while his on the ground assistant tried to keep their eyes on me....after about 3 hours of them catching up to me I looked up and waved at the dude🫢in the words of Memphis"officers"..BRUH!!!!!...you should have seen how mad that blue goons was,almost crashed into the trees,I was cracking up bruh!it was so funny!!!!!...one of his other buddies thought about me last night cause he came flying by this morning while I was minding my own business again same way I was when the clown tried to follow me around.

Cool video but if you do this again....how about some actual calls, a pursuit, etc. It's more fun to see the actual meat and potatoes versus the checklists, safety meetings, etc. Just a suggestion.

Who handles your medevac for the area? What are you pilots doing when they are down for weather? Are you guys a 24/7/365 operation? IFR and VFR?

Are there multiple flight crews or is air support only available during certain shifts?
As of right now its one flight crew so air support is available only when they are on shift. BUT we do also get help from surrounding agencies if air support is needed and our crew is off. -Ralph

Why does the civ pilot carry a weapon?
I think the gentleman filled the role of the “civilian pilot” on city/public paperwork, but he did mention he had been on the force for over 29 years. I’ve read that police helicopter pilots don’t necessarily need to be sworn officers.
Why is the pilot a civilian?
Because there's really no cops that fly aircraft,so they look for someone who has experience flying aircraft and has the qualifications
May I wear the clothing
Would be a lot better without the old rock music. We want to hear the chopper.
I love the shots flying and things like that but the music is a little much it needs to be toned down a little, we're not at a rock and roll concert, the loud music just ruined the flying shots.

Every police aviation unit should be replaced by advance drones. The helicopter is no longer necessary. It also is an extremely expensive unit to maintain.
