you can also assign the 8 encoders on the akai to control the fx on the sp404. you just need to set the corresponding CC values on the akai and make sure you are in the correct midi channel
Thanks for the tip. I've heard of this but haven't figured it out.
Thanks , this was a really useful video compaired to the other big channels , stright to the point..
Thank You for the good words 🙏
A real clear and concise tutorial ty
Make sure akai pays you money
😎🙏
Great info, just ordered cable using your link.
Thank You brother 🙏 I do appreciate that formal. God bless!
Really helpful video! Inspires me to try this matchup with my Nektar Panorama T4 (49 key) controller!
That sounds cool 😎 lmk how it go!
Dope just got the plus
It's a nice keyboard for sure! 👊
Brooooo thank you 😭🙏
No doubt 🙏 glad to help
Ty

As far as I can tell, you're the only person who has made videos about this. Its really cool to see how well the MK2 accepts midi controls. Any plans on connecting anything from the launchkey mk3 series?
I had considered the mini mk3 and also the nearly identical fl key mini but hasn't been on my mind lately... are you considering a launchkey to purchase?
@@LiftedNoise yeah or something similar. Currently I'm just a using the very limited capability of my Microbrute to control Dexed, and I'm wanting some more keys and other midi control. I have a 404 mk2 and when I saw that the mk3 launchkeys have midi out I was intrigued by the possibility of controlling my hardware with it. I especially like dedicated chord pads. It would be cool to control dexed with the chord pads and my Microbrute with the keys and effects and transport controls on the SP
Do you know how I can map the keyboard so it controls the effects on the SP? For example, say I want to change one of the keyboard knobs so it adjusts a setting on the isolator, how would I custom map that?
Thanks for the video. So with the 404, If I load it with samples I can then play those using the Akai? Would the mod and pitch wheel work with those samples too? Pretty cool if so.
The mod and pitch do not work. That is a limitation of the sp firmware. Possibly could be in a future update.
Thanks for making this tutorial! I followed your vid step-by-step and I’m not able to play chords on the mini plus after selecting a single note sample on the sp-404 mk2. I tried changing the midi settings on the sp-404 mk2 but no dice. Also tried setting chromatic mode on Bank J with a single note sample as well as creating another project and assigning pad 1 with the same sample.
I’m only able to play single notes on one key scale. Any suggestions/thoughts for troubleshooting?
Is your firmware all the way updated to the newest one. We are on 4.04 now. Chromatic mode was mono up until 2.0. Also if it is updated, when in chromatic mode, use the remain button to cycle through different modes. By default it is mono and you have legato, and poly as the last option.
Hi there, completely off topic but do you know if there is there a way to know what are the parameters of a notes i already sequenced in TR-REC? I.e. the velocity, pitch or offset?
The MPK Mini Plus does have some nice added features over the MPK Mini MK3 besides the extra octave. Some are complaining about the MIDI clock sync when using the built in sequencer. Since I don’t use mine like that, have you experienced any issues?
I haven't tried the sequencer and never had the intent to. My main reasons for getting one is the extra keys and midi out to control the sounds in the SP-404 MK2 to sequence in the pattern sequencer. How are you using your mini plus?
@@LiftedNoise
Just to input notes into MPCs, the MPC Software, Abelton Live, and Cubasis on Android. I also use it to control a Roland J-6 and Roland D-05. No onboard sequencer use. I have other MIDI controllers too.
Hey bud, just seen a good deal on one of these. 20% off. But would you still consider the 'Synido TempoKEY K25' to be the better choice for use with the sp404mk2 in the longrun? Thanks in advance, much love. i notice this akai has more keys than the k25 too, certainly something to consider, worth noting that i'm DAWless
If your main desire is to play keys with chromatic mode, then I would get this. Also, if you do have access to a computer to download the software editor and want to program the knobs that way, go for this. If you don't mind fewer keys and want the easiest way of programming your knobs to fx in the SP, the Synido is a better choice.
@@LiftedNoise thanks bud, really appreciate your response!
Do you think the Akai pairs adequately with the SP404 MK2 or is there another keyboard you think is a better fit?
It depends on what you are looking for and to do? If you want 37 mini keys, there aren't many other options. Another also good choice is the arturia keystep 37. The keystep is a bit faster at changing midi channels. It's a shift + key press while the akai mini Plus is more of a menu dive. Some other mini key options are the m-audio Oxygen Pro mini and the novation launchkey mini. All these options have basicly what you need, a midi out and a way of changing the midi channel. If any of this was helpful to you, please consider using my zzounds wishlist link in the description! Help me quit my job!! 😅😂🤣 but seriously.. any other questions feel free
apakah bisa berjalan di keyboard aranger
Anyone having any delay issues with the pads while finger drumming? Please Help.
thanks for your answer, deleted the comment because in the meantime i was aware to set the chromatic mode on the sp404 as well. Now the question is how can i change the pad on the sp404 remotely with a midi sequence or prog change?
im not sure...been using the sp mostly for fx on my MPC outs lately. haven't gotten deep into midi stuff with it.
So if you bought a second one boss midi cable- could you midi out and resample back to the sp404
I'm not sure I understand the question? What are you trying to resample because resampling is definitely a feature of the SP.
Hi there, im looking for the Nektar 25 for portability. Its usb so im wondering if its possible to hook it up to the 404? I guess i would need a usb to midi cable? Thanks!
If there is no physical midi 5 pin or trs midi output that will not work. Because USB MIDI controllers depend usually on a computer to supply power you would need what's called a USB host. It's a little box that supplies power and converts the usb midi into 5 pin midi and then you'd need an additional midi cable. Not very portable. I can recommend this keyboard i just made a video about that has the appropriate trs midi out to control the SP you'll just need the boss midi cable which I've also linked in the description czcams.com/video/nTlx-cgqsTE/video.htmlsi=sEnxEH3Xan20TGql
@@LiftedNoise thank you very much for your response and your time! I already have an mpk225 so i guess ima stick with it.
@@humansrstupid8007 that should work! 🙏🍻
Would this setup work with a maschine mk2 and while using the software?
I don't fully understand the question..are you wanting to use maschine together with the sp as well or just the controller with maschine?
hey there, hope you are doing well! So its been 2 days im trying to hook my mpk225 to my 404 mk2 and cant figure it out. I think the menu might be different from the mpk mini so its kinda confusing. There is option to change channels from A1-B16. This is where im suppose to set it to A-1 for pad A or A-16 for chromatic? Doesnt work :( hopefully you can chime in with some technical advices because im a newb to all of this midi and cables stuff! I used to work in DAWs. Thanks!
First of all, do you have the proper cable linked in this description? There are a few types of trs midi cables, so you will need this one specifically. 2nd yes you are correct, channel 1 is for pad bank A and so on through channel 10, channel 16 is for chromatic. But.. there are two different midi configurations inside the sp with the preferences midi mode a and b I believe. Mode a is what we just spoke of, mode b sets up half the banks on channel 1 and the other half of Banks on channel 2. This still shouldn't affect chromatic mode which remains on channel 16. If you are changing th e channel in the midi keyboard I believe it should under wording such as global midi channel..hope this helps.
@@LiftedNoise thank you for the follow up. i have one i bought on amazon. Its not the Boss one, but if you think that could be the reason ill return it and get a Boss one. Because my samples were all on pad A and the midichannel on the mpk was set to A1 and there was absolutely no sound coming out. Many thanks man, i appreciate. i'll continue to figure it out.
@humansrstupid8007 yes definitely return that! Amzone is hassle free with returns. Their are different types of trs midi..a..b..maybe a c and it's really hard to know which one your equipment requires. Save your self the headache and buy the cable that is guaranteed to work.
Also get the longer cable the1 foot and foot ones don't give you much of a gear placement option and with your larger keyboard you'll probably need atleast 5 feet
I guess it's quite similar to use with the Novation Launchkey Mini MK3? Advantage would be it has more pads, so all 16 pads are available an the Novation is a bit cheaper. Not sure how it would be with linking all the midi channels. Maybe someone here has experience with this? Havn't found a video on YT
What do you mean by linking all the midi channels?
@@LiftedNoise so each knob is corresponding to the right cc of the SP.
I guess there is always 16 channels and 128 cc in each device? Question is then is it possible to assign them?
@@austropop1970 I havent gone that deep into programming knobs. Ive heard it is possible to control MFX with midi controllers but i havent tried. What exactly are you trying to do? there have been some improvements with update 3.0 now you have more flexibility to choose what channel your banks will be triggered on but i havent gone beyond these basics.
How well does this work as a sequencer for samples on the SP?
Never tried that sequencer. I like the SP sequencer quite a bit. I don't think the mpk plus sequencer would be a better alternative.
I’m trying this with a launch key mini mk3.
My goal is to play a sample chromatically on keyboard.
I put my keyboard on channel 16 and able to control a sample in chromatic.
The problem is my keyboard will only control one octave. After one octave, the key won’t play a note.
Any ideas?
Are you sure it isn't 2 octaves? That's all the SP gives you in chromatic mode. 1 whole octave above and below the root note sample. Did you you use the octave up down to shift the keyboard keys position?
@@LiftedNoise oh I see what you’re saying. I can lower an octave with the keyboard, but I’m limited to the two.
I was hoping it would function more like ableton simpler. I’d 100% sell my mpc if I could control more than two octaves
Bit unrelated but where to people get the sp404 cases like yours?
What case are you talking about?
@@LiftedNoiseyours has some astronauts on it!
@@GermanWithLingcademy oh got it. You mean the face plate. It can be removed easily for customization. These are a bunch of stickers I put on there. You just place them and cut the portions that lay where the buttons are using an exacto knife.
Any idea if this works with the mpk mini mk3 the same way?
You would need a USB MIDI Host because the mpk mini mk3 does not have a midi out jack like the Plus does
@@LiftedNoise sick, much appreciated
Peace! To get this to work what does the sp404 midi need to be set to? thanks
Midi channel 16 if you want to play chromatic mode. Ch 1-10 for pad banks all there is a new midi option that will put all your pad banks on ch1 and 2
