Hanzo wasn't trying to assassinate anyone, he was just trying to get back inside his family's castle to pay honor to Genji. I'm thinking the area with the sword rack and cut banner may be where Hanzo originally defeated Genji.

Hanzo says "RYUU GA WAGA TEKI WA KURAU" which means "let the dragon consume my foes" and Genji says "RYUJIN NO KEI O KORIE" which roughly translates to "be one with the dragon"

The official site says that Reyes was supposedly subjected to genetic experiments that left his cells regenerating and decaying simultaneously at an accelerated rate, and he seems to drain his victims of their nutrients. It's probably related to Mercy's technology. I suppose he can break himself down at a cellular level to disperse and become intangible, teleport, etc.
I don't know about Genji and Hanzo's abilties, they resemble "ki" attacks, but they do resemble Symmetra's Hard Light technology. I think those skills probably won't ever be explained though.

Brett Jacobson I think that might be in the works, seeing there is a exhibit at the Numbani museum about Doomfist. That is why we are scorting the glove in the payload. We are taking it to the Numbani exhibit.

The change that Genji mentions is probably a combination of TALON and the Second Omnic Crisis, mentioned in "Recall"

In the case of Reaper, maybe some sort of black project probably got mixed in with him during the explosion or he was experimented on after the fact and became something... more.
Hanzo and Genji both have semi-magical abilities, so anything's possible. Maybe there's alternate dimensions that follow different rules and certain people can 'split the veil' for a while, so to speak. With blizzard in charge, that seems the most likely explanation for these repeated oddities. Regardless, until otherwise stated I'm going with it's not magic per say, just not explainable with our current level of understanding.
To anyone looking in, Mercy would look like an angel of some kind, especially with the "Heroes never die!", but we all know that's not magic...
2020 still comes back from time to time. I really like your reaction series. It's great to see some1 else that knows the game enough to appreciate all the details they put in the animation. Feels like talking to a close friend. Also reminds me how I felt the first time I watched it. Thank you.
I understood what you meant immediately when you mentioned Reaper and magic. I had mentioned almost exactly what you said to my cousin not a week before I watched this! Anyway, great cinematic, thanks for the reaction video, and see you in-game!
There are also tiny references in some of the game maps to a character named Sombra, like a newspaper clipping on the Dorado map, and Reaper even has a line of dialogue saying "Where's Sombra when you need her?" In the Cinematics trailer on the PlayOverwatch channel, there's a brief clip of Soldier 76 in what looks like Dorado beating up some goons with skull masks, so I'm thinking it would be absolutely incredible if the Soldier 76 short just introduces Sombra completely out of the blue.

The Shimada Clan was probably not exterminated though, the guards have the typical "Yakuza" fashion, they're probably Shimada.

I don't think they will ever make a story mode. I saw this "documentary" about Blizz and Overwatch and the lead game designer said that they give some of the lore through the environment (like, as it was pointed out, what the characters say to each other when they meet). Other than that, they would like to let the fanbase speculate and make up their own theories about the characters and the connections between them

I love Genji so much!!! He's not my favorite character, but I love his lore and backstory. I really liked how you started theorizing about Doomfist and everything surrounding that. I never really thought that deep into it, but I love the lore and theories so much!!
Fun fact that not alot of people know about I believe, is that when you
see inside the castle of the Shimada's, you see the banner with a blood
stain and a cut in it on lower left corner, that is actually where Hanzo
believed he struck the final blow to Genji, and is also where Overwatch
and Mercy found Genji near death.

I want a Zenyatta short. It would be great to see him coming to terms with himself and how he figured out that he had a soul or even helping Genji come to terms with what he had become.
i want a bastion short of his back story seeing how he was made (most likely in a conveyor line with other bastion units) and see him as this mindless omnic killing machine turning into the robot that he is and maybe have a scene were hes in his turret form protecting a bird nest from a storm or something and that being a big turning point for him realizing he is not just this killing machine (and it would maybe explain why he has a pet bird)

There's a popular headcannon that explains why Genji has only one dragon instead of two like Hanzo.Hanzo's internal conflicts cause his dragons to war amongst themselves ( why they swirl around each other) but Genji has found peace and this gives him a stronger, more unified dragon.

Genji is definitely my favorite character from Overwatch, his story is just so inspiring.

You seemed surprised that it was set on an actual map. The "Alive" Animation was set in King's Row, it was just on the rooftops for most of it. The place where Mundatta (The "pope" omnic) was giving his speech is at the hotel steps just left of the first choke point. The part where Widow pulls her bad ass "I'll aim through Tracer to hit the omnic" move, Mundatta is right in front of Attack spawn. Also, fun fact, On the actual Hanamura map you can find random arrows hidden around the map embedded in posts, which is a nod to this cinematic. Also, in-game the lantern that Genji hides behind and the arrows rip through is legitimately torn up on Point B.

I don't think there is a style of music that gets to me so emotionally as 'asian' inspired music does.
Whether it's Last Samurai, Pandaria music or Kung Fu Panda (you know you tear up at Oogway Ascends, don't lie) but this also gains a spot on the list.
Usually I despise reaction videos, but your ways of these type of videos, I like! You give lore and backstory and some thoughts and opinions! A lot better then just straight up watching the video and saying nothing.

But she's just playing into the CZcams monetary schemes; more minutes of a video people watch the more you get paid. So if you post a reaction video that forces people to wade through shit to get to real content, that means more money!

XD! Everyone want a movie out of this! This is the most epic animation! It can connect to players. I don't know what to say but, The feels are real! Oh, and Genji was killed by Hanzo. Mercy(Reaper might have been involved [Unlikely]) found him and revived him but his body was in a critical condition so Overwatch made him a cyborg body.
Following on from your speculations about Reyes/Reaper my personal theory is that Reyes was used (or volunteered) as some kind of test bed for some new medical technology developed by Mercy. Maybe some form of nano-tech or cellular regeneration methods but for some reason it did not work or was left dormant. But then the Overwatch headquarters exploded, either from Reyes actions or someone else, and Reyes got caught in the blast. As we saw from the Recall trailer Reaper is possibly able to regenerate back even after being disintegrated by Winston's Tesla gun. Maybe this same process is what brought him back after the headquarters bombing and now he is lashing out at the world (and Overwatch in particular) in revenge for the state he is in.
An added element of tragedy to this would be if Reaper looses some of his memories every-time he comes back, and while he remembers some of the circumstances, people, and events; his recollections have become jumbled and mixed in with various assumptions and misunderstandings, making his current rage against the world somewhat unjustified, and he is unable to realize that.
Can't wait for the animated short featuring Junkrat. If Blizzard does it, I want to laugh my ass off at all the explosions.

First, I greatly appreciate your most knowledgeable and highly detailed explanation of the actual storyline from which this animated short-film was created. As I am completely unfamiliar with the legends/lore of this tale, my entire perspective/assessment must be based purely on that which I observed..and what I observed was perhaps the most poignantly narrated, enchantedly scored and beautifully rendered FILMS (be they animated or live-action) that I've ever had the pleasure of watching; it was, simply stated, perfect.
One can only hope that the producers of this masterpiece have the common good sense to forgo any notions (moving forward) about making yet another limitedly-appealing, i.e. for 'players-only,' video game from these superb film-shorts. In fact, I'd wager hard-cash that if the investors of this short would committ their wherewithal to produce a feature-length film--with all the same qualities of this featurette--they will have created a product that nigh EVERYONE--gamers, non-gamers , bookworms, couch-potatos, sneak-thieves and rocket-scientists--would hugely enjoy many times over.

Apparently the test in the shine says "A Dragon's Head and a Snake's Tail.' It means the same thing as 'To start with a bang and end with a whimper.'
Hanzo wasn't intentionally going to kill Genji a 2nd time. He just acted with a huge bag of emotions learning that Genji is alive, Genji reopening an old wound of reminding Hanzo of that moment the whole time while they were fighting, the fact Hanzo was intent on killing him before he learned it was Genji sunk his guilt even further, and now Genji leaves with nothing but a cryptic message and not explain what happened throughout the whole time he was alive (cause Hanzo really does care about Genji). Its almost a very Japanese-type drama you'd see in samurai movies and very fitting, IMHO
