    Got this laptop used but whith an i5 4210u. Very good machine. Has a fingerprint sensor and a card reader, supports sim cards for internet out of the box. Very nice box for a software developer on the go. The tracker in the middle reminds me of those old IBM thinkpads. Backlight is a cool feature

    I just bought this exact laptop with the 4th gen i5 processor because my Aspire i3 which I bought brand new in 2021 was water damaged. For a 10 year old laptop it's held up solidly for now

    Hey Carlos thanks I'm glad I found this review! I'm in between a rock and a hard place. I can buy this laptop refurbished for $294. 00. The specs are good but the age concerns me, should I buy this or take that money and buy a brand new device for eg. An Asus Vivo book you know something average, but new?

      Hey Anton! Thanks for checking out the video! That's really a good question. For a computer in today's era, you need something that has at least 8 GB of ram (16 GB max). Upgrading to a 2.5 inch SSD drive or even M.2 SSD will increase speed as well. The Intel HD Graphics 4400 / AMD Radeon HD 8750M (if equipped) GPUs will allow for web browsing, video playing, and basic games from today's era. While I'm not familiar with Asus, I did some research on their laptops, such as the VivoBook 14 F412DA. That computer, for example, can hold up to 12 GB of ram and uses an SSD. Its AMD Ryzen 5 3500U Vega 8 GPU should be expected to match or outperform the Intel GPU in the HP. Asus reliability does seem good, and of course, the new laptop should be expected to have a warranty if anything does go wrong. On the other hand, the 840 G1 is an aging computer, probably with no active factory warranties. Still, it's easier to repair in my opinion. Also, the VivoBook 14 I was looking at was found on Amazon, currently having a price of $515. When new, the 840 G1 appeared to have price ranging between $1000 to $2000 at the time. This positions the computer as a higher level unit. This, in turn plays on the adage "You get what you pay for". $1000 got a computer that has worked for at least 6 to 7 years. Another example of this is the Latitude D430, going for $1200 new in 2008, still working today.
      Ultimately, for a budget, the Asus computer is good for something reliable that you may be able to upgrade in a few years. A refurbished 840 G1 for a low price will get you through the next few years, and may continue to work after that, but may no longer be practical to use, like my relative's HP Pavilion 3100 from 1997. Still works and does everything it's supposed to, but is virtually useless in today's time. Will an Asus VivoBook still work in say, 2027? Only time will tell how long these laptops will last.

    • @carlosjanevlogs9322
      @carlosjanevlogs9322  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi! The 840 G1 is from 2013, while the 250 G5 appears to be from 2017. The 840 is good if you want a small laptop while the 250 is a larger laptop with a 15.6 inch screen and a keyboard plus number pad. Both laptops can handle up to 16 GB of ram depending on the configuration, but the 840 is easier to upgrade. The 250 G5's advantage is having an optical drive while 840 G1 does not have an optical drive bay. For any computer you choose, you'll want the one with the best CPU. While newer CPUs may have better performance, others, though new, may not be as powerful, depending on the model. Also, 4 GB of ram is okay if you have an SSD, but you'll want to have 8 GB of ram if you have a regular hard drive

      Hi! The SSD will help with editing as it can be memory intensive leading to high hard disk usage from the Pagefile compensating for high memory usage. These computers may be able to handle basic games, though they do run hot.

      Hi! The Elitebook Folio 1040 would appear to have an Intel HD Graphics GPU. These GPUs can handle basic gaming, most of the time, if the graphics settings are low. Anything more than that will have either poor performance or may not run at all.
