What a wonderful description. So very true. Going through that period as a young man in his late teens the point of @luadmo4117 being the album happening in a tough time in their life but still lamenting its passsing is brilliant.

I was born 2000, grew up listening to this stuff when I was in the car with my dad. Crazy to think he’s an old man now and I’m 22. Made me realize we’re closer to 2040 than 2000. We were on a bus, she was heading home and i don't knew where i was going. But i don't wanted to be home.
Suddenly she passes me one earplug, and said something like "do you know slowdive?". I was into grunge and punk at the moment. I said no.
Then this starts playing on my left ear.
I don't really wanted the bus to stop anytime soon, i wanted (and still want) to live in that moment forever.
She got over me and moved to another city to study.
I'm still here getting high to this song.

My grandma passed away on thanksgiving, worst holiday of my life. She practically raised me when my mother couldn’t, and being the oldest I had to help raise my siblings. Guess who helped me when it got hard? She did. It was as if a part of me was ripped away from my hands and I could never get it back. I love her with my whole being. I listened to this song shortly after her funeral, and it’s as if she wanted me to hear it. It makes me feel like I’m still reaching for her warm embrace when I’d cry for her. I miss her so much. This song helped me calm down after breaking down about her passing. Thank you.

Experience life as complex as I do.. my grandmother also raised me when things where difficult at home for me and my parents. Amazing to think, but critics hated this album when it came out. Now it’s probably considered to be one of the best rock albums ever made.
Ryan Krankowski Many rock classics also experience such critical flack, just take a look at Led Zeppelin, all their albums were panned by critics. I agree that this is perhaps one of the best-crafted rock album ever made, and the critics’ comments on this album back then are now jokes, even the prank joke that inspire the album’s title is much better.
People are stupid hehe. Not to be political, but oh man has humanity fucked up a few times. This album is a classic, a milestone and the greatest piece of bittersweet art there is.

From time to time I come back to this song and many others, I read the comments and I start to cry really hard because of the amount of vulnerable emotions people talk about in the comments. I find those feelings so intimate and it makes me crave so bad to have a soul to soul, mind to mind and body to body connection with someone. I just want one person to love and to love me back.
I’m just 19 but I never had a first love yet. Boys were never interested in me. For me it is really hard to let a person in. I tried to let someone in a few months ago for the first time but he never really liked me and only wanted me for his s*xual pleasure but I didn’t want to rush into anything and he didn’t like that so we broke up. He was the first guy I ever kissed. Two weeks after the break up I kissed another guy at the club cuz I was drunk. We started talking a lot and became friends. We went out a few more times at the club and kissed everytime. He seems to really like me and I like him too but I just don’t feel that spark that everyone is talking about. We went out just the two of us and we talked a lot and he stared to hug me and be more touchy but I just don’t like to be touched like that. He didn’t do anything wrong or inappropiate. It’s just that I have so much anxiety with new people and s*xual stuff makes me unconfortable. The first guy always put pressure on me to do stuff but I just wanted to have a connection with someone first and than go on with s*xual stuff.

So much that it has earned its place in the holy trinity of shoegaze (Loveless,Souvlaki and Nowhere). Untouchable albums and completely essential for those who want to enter into the shoegaze genre.
Its success nowadays is well deserved, receiving your prize after disappearing for two decades.
Not an album for its time but a hidden message between the grunge and britpop scenes for the new generations to come,enjoy and listen to it religiously.

they are all dream pop album tho. the concept of shoegaze is a much broader definition than distorted guitar noises and reverb!

But i agree they dont sound alike. Maybe slow songs on ladies and gentlemen?
Nonetheless im not sure slowdive did influence much until stuff like beach house era, but thats why its treasure to people.ethereal heart pulling trippy stuff, obviously people would like that! yet few and far between, and some oasis and grunge fans saying its 'too wet' may have made it uncool to some.

So glad these comments are still here. It hurt seeing a lot of comments on other Slowdive songs disappear. Probably like most people, this was my gateway song. Now I have a 7 hour playlist full of every song of theirs I could find. I see a lot of people here who associate this song with someone they once loved. For me, though, this song makes me think about myself. Sometimes I feel like my candle is burning at both ends, and I’m just letting it happen. Slowdive comforts me.

I just played this song for my 70 year old folks. I told them my 19yo and I are seeing Slowdive when they come to Sydney next month and that they might like this song. Played it all the way through - no reaction. I just don't get how someone could not have an emotional response to a song this gorgeous.

I listen to this song whenever sadness gets me. It makes me feel sad but in a good way I think? I feel a kind of comfort, the kind of comfort that I crave from a real person (doesn't matter who the person is) and it also makes me feel good about feeling lonely. It's okay to be lonely. So what if there's no one by my side? I'm here for myself.
This song makes me feel in a way so specific. Used to travel states late night to see a girl I dated, old friend of mine, and I always listened to this album while in the bus. Kinda sleeping, kinda awake, in a twilight of dream and reality, always playing these songs. The old air-conditioning wind in my face, the smell of gas and the muffled sound of the engine running, the dark road and the sky full of stars; the broken heart, the taste of resentment in my mouth and a solid certainty that I would get her back -- and slowdive.
Just listening to it makes my stomach ache.
I can see why Slowdive’s beautiful music helps me to cope in crowded spaces and environments...

this song is my early-pandemic soundtrack, when im alone in my dark room... stuck inside , want to do something but cant get out. Feeling depressed too. Damn almost a year ago
for me, this song is about death and rebirth. its enigmatic in that sense that it has made me feel like no other song in the world, killing me from the inside then reviving me in four perfect minutes.
long story short, i met slowdive when i was 17 and too young to do anything, it was one of the best days of my teen years. my grandfather had also developed cancer that same summer and i felt it deep in my stomach that i would never see him walk, let alone live again. the feeling still lives with me in the present, knowing that there isn't anything i can do to save anyone we lost.
at 18 i finally saw slowdive live and was front row and centre. when this song came on, the feeling in my stomach came back briefly and but i remember rachel looking in my eyes and smiling and the agonizing discomfort subsided for a moment. to this day, hearing when the sun hits live is a highlight of every concert I'd seen. i came home that night quite late and found upon arrival that grandpa had just passed as i was gone. i think it is beautiful that i have this song to remember him by, even if he has never heard it in his life i like to think one day we will reunite and i will get to share with everyone all the beautiful earthly things that made our stay here worthwhile.

The song hits me as a intense throwback. Slow Dive helped me get through gloomy teenage years. Those days i was cruely refused by my first crush, struggling with chaotic self-image and indescribable mixed emotions. Souvlaki was always my go-to album when things were way out of my control. I truly appreciate their work.
