      Not to be rude, but that is not it. That little melody is part of a lullaby that used to be sung to her as a child, but when she got her father killed at Theramore for backing up Thrall, Kul Tiras changed the lyrics slightly and used it as a way to mock/spite her. So her humming it here, is kind of a way for her to say "Look at me now/I've changed" basically.

    To give some perspective:
    The kul tiran ships seem to be based on the real life capital ships known as a "Ship of the Line" which held anywhere from 50-200 cannons across multiple gun decks- anywhere from 1 to even 4 decks. They are called a "ship of the line" as the main stratwgy was to line a bunch of these up in a line and just fire full broadsides at once at the enemy. Sometimes having the ships moving past the enemy ships so each ship in the line got a turn to hit the enemy that way.
    (For visual reference the ship that Becket uses, The Endeavor, in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and the Dauntless from the first one). A full broadside from a First Rate Ship of the Line (150+ cannons) was about 1 thousand pounds of force. It was literally enough to reduce another ship to splinters in seconds. With just 1 broadside. They were by far the largest and most powerful ships in the ocean during the age of sail.
    And the Kul Tiran seems to be almost entirely made up of these massive ships.
    Lets say theres 30 ships (the alliance fleet prior to Legion was said to be 100 ships)
    Thats 30 THOUSAND pounds of force in 1 full broadside from all those ships at once if they were to all choose to fire on Ashvane's little fleet.

    • @rcslyman8929
      @rcslyman8929 Před 4 lety +3

      That was a good thought and an outstanding analysis, but you're overclassing them. The mainstay of the Kul Tiran fleet are frigates. Granted, they still have massive firepower over any other ship (save the Iron Horde's dreadnoughts), but not quite so much as a Ship of the Line. Which DOES exist in the game... in Lord Admiral Daelin Proudmoore's ship that Jaina raised from the depths. For added similarities to actual Tall Ships, the Alliance and Forsaken sail galleons, the Night Elves sail a kind of modified fluyt, and Ashvane's ships (the continent ferry ships) are brigantines.
      Each of Ashvane's ships had 8 guns. Every Kul Tiran ship carried 24. That's 3:1 per ship match-up... you know, if the total number of ships had been equal for each side. Ashvane had a dozen. Tandred had 30+. The total gun disparity was something stupid like 8.5:1, and that's not even factoring in cannon tonnage. Tactically, the Kul Tirans were coming in from behind and flanking, with the winds at their backs, and could have easily turned and bombarded Ashvane's fleet with constant raking broadsides, with little to no chance for return fire before at least half the Kul Tiran fleet had sent a full broadside. Basically, in about 2 minutes, most (if not all) of Ashvane's fleet would have been sunk or floundered without having gotten a shot off.

    • @ConnorNotyerbidness
      @ConnorNotyerbidness Před 4 lety +4

      @@rcslyman8929 do remember that in wow everything is far scaled down. Its why a town like goldshire lorewise has a population of 800 but in game is an inn and a blacksmith. Or the fact that clearly in game the farms of elwyn forest arent Nearly big enough to support a city like stormwind...because lorewise there are a lot more abd are larger. As is stormind supposed to be far larger So given that in game they clearly designed the big ships off ships of the line (note the 2 gun decks. Note also that a standard frigate if it had a 2nd gun deck also qualified even if the number of guns remained the same)lore wise youd use that for your comparison rather than the specs of your average frigate.
      And daelin proudmoores flagship is of the same class of ship as the rest, though seemingly an older model as the bow of the ship is armored, more angled upwards and several other small differences
      I dont believe they are supposed to be First Rate Ship of the Lines, as those were extremely rare in real life but i do think they qualify as at the very least 3rd tier

    • @rcslyman8929
      @rcslyman8929 Před 4 lety +1

      @@ConnorNotyerbidness I do kind of take the scale down into account. 24 guns is rather light for armament on a frigate. However, I will give you that frigates only had a single gun deck lined along the hull, which the Kul Tiran ships are not (two gun decks). That does support your analysis that they are Ships of the Line, which would make the Proudmoore flagship a dreadnought on par with 1st Rate Ships of the Line like the HMS Victory. I still hold fast on the class comparisons for the other racial ships.

      @@ConnorNotyerbidness Yeah, I took an interest in them due to a fascination with tall ships and the era of sails. "A Pirate Looks at 40"? Sums it up for me.
      The Orc Juggernaut definitely stood up to those ships, but it was an ungainly vessel. Obsiously in the RTS, they were evenly matched, but if you looked at them from a reality perspective, the Kul Tiran ships could sail laps around the Horde counterparts. The benefit that the orcs had was incredibly strong armor that would have been akin to the CSS Virginia, but with significantly more firepower. The Defias juggernaut had less armor, but was still just as ungainly from its size. And the final factor that separated the Kul Tiran ships was the tide sages that sailed on each ship. Tide sages ensured each ship had the advantage of the seas.

    This is a beautiful cinematic. Having to see Jaina going through the expansion and watching her growing up, was a well-done job from Blizzard. The music was on point. The only thing I missed in the cinematic was a bit of a cannon show between Ashvane fleet and the Kul'Tiran fleet, just a few shots to show how much stronger the Kul'Tiran feel is. Other than that, this was a very touching cinematic. Probably the best part of BFA.
