Indiana vs Cleveland State (NCAA Tournament 1st Round) - 3/14/1986

The infamous end to the "Season on the Brink" saw IU lose as a 3 seed to an unheralded Cleveland State squad. This game ends up being a pretty interesting historical document for a number of reasons (including RMK wearing a white sweater). I take no joy in posting it, other than the commitment to maintaining a proper archive.

Galen, it may been the end to the "Season on the Brink" when IU was upset by Cleveland State. btw, it is one of the great moments in Cleveland, Ohio Sports History. That same Cleveland State team would go on to the Sweet 16 that year before losing to the David Robinson-led Navy squad. It was also televised nationally on ESPN and in Cleveland, Ohio on Cleveland's then CBS station WJW-TV 8 (now WJW Fox 8).

Euclid Ave (main street in Cleveland) went crazy. You would have thought Cleveland St won the championship

Galen, as if the loss isn't bad enough, the announcer at the beginning says "University of Indiana".....twice!
Also, Bob did wear that white sweater again, with about the same results, at the beginning of the 88-89 season. Fortunately he switched back to red after getting shellacked by Syracuse, North Carolina and Louisville.

Despite Cleveland St. being a 14 seed this was a bad matchup for IU. The Hoosiers struggled against teams that liked to run and play full court pressure defense that season.
