When concentration of calcium is higher in the axon terminals, there are many voltage gated calcium channels on the cell membrane of axon. Calcium ions cross link t snares and v snares proteins and trigger exocytosis of neurotransmitters this could be acetylcholine, glutamate, dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, histamine so on and so forth. V snares are protein embedded in vesicle cell membrane. These are synaptotagmin, synaptobrewin. And t snares are on the membrane of axon terminal- this could be snap 25 and syntaxin

what is cotransmission?
Cotransmission is transmission through a single synapse by means of more than one transmitter.
For example -
To elicit vasoconstriction, postganglionic sympathetic neurones release their classical transmitter noradrenaline (which acts on smooth muscle α‐adrenoceptors) as well as ATP (which acts on smooth muscle P2 receptors) and neuropeptide Y (which acts on smooth muscle Y1 receptors).
