The reason why there’s a line at Gringotts even though you rope dropped is because the Harry Potter areas open one hour early to guests who stay on property

Agreed I live in Florida and visit the parks frequently and he really should stay on property it let’s him into the park early and certain ones give you a fast pass along with the room including the day you leave so an unlimited fast pass for three days for only two days in the park which is an amazing deal and trust me I’ve looked into it. (he probably should go with someone like a friend that owns a annual pass or lives in Florida because those both give discounts for everything in the park) and he went on a horrible day anyway

The reason the Simpsons ride is like that is because it is basically using a recycled system. It was originally a Back to the Future ride and the reason why only the cars move is because there are multiple cars at a time looking at the same screen as you. It's basically an huge IMAX theater with each car acting as a seat.

I do agree that this park desperately needs another predominantly-practical ride. Like, I love a good screen ride. Toy Story Mania and Spider-Man show how to do this ride type well. But when four of your main attractions are simulator rides (I count F&F since that’s basically what it is) then you really need to diversify more. I feel like this park is getting neglected, especially with Islands getting all of the shiny new toys, while this is getting another Minions ride

Single rider on hulk and forbidden journey were essentially walk on in under 35m wait. Rip ride rocket never felt like you dropped below a 5 minute wait unless the ride was dead anyway.

I love Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket due to how it is different and fun. It was my first (and only at this time) roller coaster with a height over 140ft. I did think the screen rides were a little bit repeative but I still enjoyed it. I hope universal will do something like they are doing with Islands of Adventure because I LOVED Hulk and Hagrids, MIB is better than Toy Story Mania in my opinion becuase there is more real sets then screens. I will take Universal Studios over Epcot and maybe Animal Kingdom, but I think Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are better. This park has some great oppertunity if Universal puts more work and I hope this park will be better in the future. (A Fast and Furious indoor coaster like Rock N' Roller Coaster would be cool too)

The "worst" experience I've ever had at universal is getting stuck on (harry potter and the forbidden journey?) it was fun but at one part I believe a disabled rider had to get on to the ride so they had to stop all of the simulations and our one was unfortunate enough to be stuck in the position that was on your back and slightly tilted towards your head being upside down but it was only for around 5 minutes max so its not bad. I’ve been on 80 coasters as of right now and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is my #7 favorite! For me the thing that made it amazing was being able to listen to some actual great songs while riding it. My best experience was at Night, I selected Painkiller by Judas Priest, and got the back row! I’m telling you that made the ride soooo much better! Ride it in the back you get some pretty good airtime. But the best part is also totally stupid, the drop after the final mid-course before the final brake run. If your in the back, you get INSANE EJECTOR AIRTIME!! Now the coaster layout itself is meh, but the fact that I was able to listen to so many great songs, makes this whole experience a memory that will last forever! Please give it another try! Especially at night, and try to find a good secret song, and don’t forget to get the back row, maybe a little rougher but the airtime is worth it!!

Universal Studios in Hollywood. Charges 10$ for one Slice of Pizza. They charge 11$ for two bottles of Water. You have to be vaccinated in order to get tickets. You will be dealing with over crowded areas who are not wearing masks.
Half of the rides are closed or that they reduced half of the capacity of each ride due to covid. This means twice the already long waiting time. I've heard stories where people would be sitting in line in the baking sun for an hour or more just for a dark ride that'll last 3 minutes.
Most of these rides are "Dark Rides" anyways. Over inflated food and drinks. Almost little to no resting areas. Lacks social distancing. Staff are rude and just only see dollar signs. I can go on and on and on. It's not something I'd go dropping 5k+ USD on a flight, hotel, visiting Universal Studios in Hollywood as well as overpriced food, drinks, souvenirs.
I know there are people who enjoyed their time there. But at the same time the cost and high expectations are not nearly as rewarding in my opinion.
I think at this point it's not a vacation because your spending too much money and plans on a trip especially during covid. That it'll create additional stress and you'll lean more towards it being a complete waste of money, more so than it being worth it.

I feel like the overall ops are tremendous at Universal. Also...the shows make this park really good and makes up for fast and the furious. Bourne Stuntacular is the best attraction in the park. And I've NEVER seen MIB get more than a 15 minute wait. And I go often. Transformers is a cop-out though lol. And of course F&F is awful (but honestly usually has a 45+ minute wait for no reason).

I had to pause right when you said that you should have ridden Mummy more. 100% agreed. It's such a good ride and whenever we visited, we were able to marathon this ride even when it was still fairly busy. Mummy must be a capacity monster because it was almost always a walk-on. Regardless, I'm surprised you guys waited so long to ride this. Hindsight 20/20

i coundn't agree more. the first time i came to this park was in 2018 and we only went to Islands of Adventure because we had to get on the road for Carowinds. But when i left islands of adventure, i was sad that i didnt get to go to the other park because i hadnt heard much about it being a bad park. But oh go when i came back and went to this park, it was a crap whole. The only redeeming factors to this park were the friendliness of the employees, and mummy and rip ride rocket. by the end of the day i was so tired of all the screen rides that we left 3 hours before closing because it wasn't crowded and the ops weren't really terrible like your experience was, but we had done everything, and we just spent the rest of our day in islands of adventure. this park besides mummy, rip ride rocket, and Jimmy Fallon was a complete waste of my time.

I agree with a lot of your takes and definitely think Studios is the worse of the two Universal parks but still far from bad. You must've gone on a day with bad operations because normally they are pretty good and generally way better than average theme parks. I agree that there are far too many screen rides and Rockit needs to be done away with though. However, the Men in Black disrespect was WAYYYYY too far. That ride is fantastic, definitely needs some updates, but it's so good.

Went to a Grad Bash once in 2012. Bar none the WORST ride ops I've ever seen. The Rip Ride Rocket had literally a damn 2 AND A HALF HOUR WAIT. This was my first time riding it and it was mediocre and NOT worth waiting even an hour for. The Mummy was probably an hour wait, but that ride was actually WORTH the wait because it was inside and air conditioned.
I've noticed this trend in Universal Orlando. The queue's are TOO LONG. The trip was 7 hours and I ended up riding like 4 rides. FOUR RIDES IN 7 HOURS. The ride ops were beyond terrible even for a crowded event like Grad Bash.

As far as Ops go, you may not have realized it but it sounds like you went on a crowded day.

As someone who has been to Universal Studios alot (almost yearly from 1999 - 2009) alot of their shit is recycled from older rides. FF is just the back stage tour ride (used to have a movie prop queue from alot of different movies) and Simpsons is just literally rethemed Back to the Future ride.

I thought "The Simpsons Ride" was not bad, but that was one of those rides that it was a major mistake taking my family on--it was terrifying and sick-making to them. It's far more (visually) intense than you might guess from the theme, since it's a rethemed Back to the Future. My kid wanted to go home after that, and it was only the morning of the second day of our visit.
This park does generally pale by comparison to Islands of Adventure. I'd thought Super Nintendo World would be a major shot in the arm for it, but then that got slated for the new park instead. The sole exception is Diagon Alley, which is actually better-themed than the other half of the Harry Potter land over at IoA. And Gringotts is a great family ride--my family actually loved that one; Forbidden Journey would be a no-go. If I went back there now, the... issues with JK Rowling might give the whole thing a bit of a sour taste for me, but there's no denying the loving effort that went into the whole land.

BRUH, WE TRIED LIKE 3 TIMES AND EVERY DESIGNATED TIME NONE OF OUR FIVE PARTY GROUP GOT A TICKET. So, we went to some staff members and they were like, ohhhh sorrryyyy all of our backup tickets we give out are gone.

Men In Black is way better than either of the Toy Story shooters thanks to its awesome spins and full range of control of the blasters. It also helps that the movie it’s based on lends better to a shooting ride than Toy Story. I’d say the Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the WORST area in any Disney park, and the fact that it’s recent makes it even more disappointing.

  • @ThemeParkAvenue

I’ll get some hate for this, but I agree with you. I think Islands of Adventure is better in literally every way . The best ride at Studios is the fifth best at the resort, the theming is weaker, the 2 worst rides are both at Studios, and I find that there is much less to do. Islands is great and my second favorite Florida park to Busch Gardens. Studios is not that great and I only call it ok. Good video.

Race through New York was fun, and while Fast and Furious is a hot mess, the actual chase is fun, it just needed to last longer, but combine those two newer additions to Minions, Shrek, Simpsons, Transformers, and Gringots, holy crap, that is too many screens. The Bourne Stuntacular is great as a show, but Terminator had a far better narrative and a better use of special effects that interacted with the audience. I miss the machine guns at the start blowing out your ears, I miss the big fog billowing out across the whole audience, I miss the crashing of the seats when everything explodes. The theater shows get a pass for using a screen, so Shrek is excused, but still, it felt like I kept getting new 3D glasses everywhere and should have just been given a pair to have throughout the day.
I can't believe you didn't like Men in Black though, that's a highlight of the park and unless it's only because of the long wait you had, it's far better than Toy Story Mania in my opinion since it's not a screen, the guns are better and you have more range, you can interact with the other cars, and if you can get yourself a good enough car of people, you can actually win and be awarded "The Last Suit You'll Ever Wear."
But I will agree, Universal has fallen quite a bit in its recent years because the loss of Twister, Earthquake, and Jaws have resulted in a lot of screen based attractions, although I'm sure Diagon Alley is incredible to walk through, I just have no need to buy anything so I didn't. You used to have actual thrills and not simulated ones. While all you did was stand and watch things happen in Twister, they simulated a tornado, had tons of wind and rain, and the platform fell just like an inch and it made everyone freak out, it was awesome, and now it's Race Through New York. Earthquake never really hid its special effects, but the whole point was to take part in a movie. The preshows discussed small scale models, green screens, stunt actors, and then you got trapped in a subway tunnel as an earthquake happened, the street from above came falling in, an oncoming train derailed, fire started and then a ton of water came pouring in as a waterower had bust open out of view, it was great! Now it's Fast and Furious, which is such a letdown to the attraction that it replaced. I was excited to see what Gringotts had to offer with how the cars worked in the movies, but instead, the two times you actually go through any coaster type motions, it's in complete blackness, I can't even see how fast I'm moving. While Jaws was old, I'd much rather risk getting wet from water, being scared by a mechanical shark, and feeling the heat of the flames from the oil spilling everywhere in the water, I actually felt something! The most exciting part of Gringotts for me was the actual start where the whole track tilted into position. I never really felt like I accomplished much as a participant in the narrative they set up.
I still love Universal, I have fond memories of it when I had an annual pass as a kid, and when I last went with family that was from out of town in September 2021, it was still fun, but I could tell it was not the experience it should have been. I'm glad that they had to swap days they did both Universal parks because the next day going to Islands of Adventure was far and away the better park to end their trip with.
