I went thru Chanute in 1972, had the fuels training. Only missed one on my final test. Another guy in my class aced the test!

I was there from 73 to 74 as a jet engine mechanic.wish I could do it all over again.

  • @rubenparra7110

I was there from October 1992 to March 1993. Refueling Vehicle Mechanic Tech school. Me and my boy got lucky with standby seats out of Chicago before the airport got shut down for days... Great video.

When i was in College in U of I champaign from1980 -1984, we used to Visit Chanute Air Force Base They used to have Air Force displays every year. But those days, there were no Flights at the Base

Makes me sad to see all these AFB closed. We had 3 here in Michigan...all gone. I went to school with the military kids & heard Chanute mentioned all the time. So many of these bases from the Cold War ..gone. Such a waste. Sad remembering what they looked like back in the day & what most look like now.

My father was a Aviation Meteorologist Instructor there in the 50's and my brother went thru Aircraft Mechanics (jet engine) tech school there in 1976 and 1977. Definitely going to send him a link to this. Thank you for posting the video.

I was there training Jan-May 1986. ICBM electrical school. Sad to see it deteriorated. Lots of memories there. Thanks for posting.

I was stationed there from 1977-1981. The most westerly hanger was a sports arena during that time. Tennis courts, racquetball courts, basketball court (old Bulls court donation), and an indoor track as well. I managed it as a Recreation Specialist and lived across the flight line in base housing. Those were the days.

  • @vancacho345

I was stationed there for training between 1973 and 1974 for aircraft mechanic

MY DAD RETIRED FROM CHANUTE IN 1976. HE WORKED IN ADMINISTRATION AND ALSO HAD A SECOND JOB OF DOING DISHES IN THE MESS HALL. HE LOVED DOING DISHES HIS ENTIRE LIFE. HE HELD A STRICT WORK REGIMINE HIS ENTIRE LIFE AS WELL. RAIN DIDN'T STOP HIM FROM MOWING. HE WOULD PUT ON HIS MILITARY BLUE RAINCOAT & MOW ANYWAY, LOL. THANKS FOR DOING THIS VIDEO AS IT BRINGS BACK ALOT OF GOOD MEMORIES❣

  • @AggiePhil

I went there for training in 1987. It is so sad what has happened to it. It closed in 1993

Thank you everybody for your service I have so much respect for of you

  • @rubenparra7110

I was in the last Tech School to graduate there. It was sad seeing this video because that was a beautiful A.F base. Crazy windy and cold. White Hall is the biggest building I have ever seen in person. Met some great people there. Got my 1st tattoo at Breezy's outside the base in Rantoul. Corky's was the biggest transportation service in the area that would take us into the city to party...

  • @TommyAmongstTheTombstones

This is in Rantoul, Illinois! I used to live near here I’ve been in a few of the buildings. It’s so sad they tore most of it down.
