- Back in the beginning of June, I went to Memphis with Todd Snider. What could possibly go wrong? Todd was there to play a
benefit show for WEVL and was hoping to reconnect with some old dear friends. This film is a window into that weird and wonderful weekend.
Filmed by Otis Gibbs and Todd Fox
Keith Sykes on electric guitar and vocals
Joe Mariencheck on bass and vocals
Joe McLeary on drums
Lynn Jones on harmonica

Todd and I often talk about this idea of busking. Not just standing on a street corner, but applying it in our day to day artistic lives. This is one of the lessons of Woody Guthrie and Joe Hill before him and it's been at the core of my entire artistic career. Sometimes by choice and sometimes by necessity. You don't need some big company to give you permission to make art. You can just do it yourself and take it directly to the people. This project is a natural continuation of that idea. We made a film that we are very proud of and now we're giving it to the people. We're putting a message in a bottle and throwing it into the proverbial ocean.
If you want to help us get the word out by sharing this with kindred spirits, we won't be mad at ya.
Thanks for giving a damn,
-Otis

I love that.
I've seen footage of Joe Strummer busking on the boardwalk of some British sea town (Brighton maybe) promoting that night's Mescaleros show. Nobody he talks to has any idea who they're talking to and Joe does not care. He's not being ironic. He really believes it when he tells them its going to be a great show (he was right) and he's loving being out there promoting the show.
❤ur the one who gives a damn and we love ya. I'm so bummed I couldn't fall asleep then did tho I'm grateful to have seen this a bunch already and will again...hope we can keep in touch about stuff things and possibilities sorry I missed the premiere and chat congrats and I'll see you very soon in ur next posts and hopefully elsehow too! Great stuff thanks...y'all are inspirations and the friends I ain't met yet...SJOCR
🧠❤️🎶
Sounds great. ... Recall having an idea in my younger years about starting a website with a giant map deal & people could put folk songs with stories about where they're from or whatever.
But hey, I don't know much of anything about websites or computers.
Either way, this land is our land & best wishes to all out there. ... Thank as always Mr. Otis. Look forward to whatever you do next - 🤘
I'll be here during the premiere, so lets hang out and watch it together. Click the like button and be sure to share the film with anyone who might enjoy it.
Thanks for giving a damn,
-Otis

You could sit and just “run your mouth” as you often say, and people will give a damn. Otis got it like that. This doc looks like a special treat, though. Being a Memphian, I’m double interested.
@@melodymakermark ur gonna love it I've watched more times I can count Already!
Todd is just wonderful and being a "fly on the wall" was a privilege. Todd's a treasure, and so are you, Otis.
Amen.
Bless the troubadours, minstrels, soothsayers, and storytellers...
and bless you, Otis!!
Right back atcha! : )
Thanks Otis. Was at the Friday show and part of the Saturday show (had to get back on the road earlier than we had planned ). Saw you shooting that afternoon and wanted to introduce myself and let you know that I have been a follower of yours starting during Covid and your yootoob podcasts have been entertaining, informative, and inspirational and I appreciate you. Not wanting to bother you and be "that guy" I sadly did not. Of course I love Todd Snider for the person and genius that he is, his weekly sermons during Covid were a bedrock during that time. Thanks so much for this and all you do buddy.
Thank you for the kind words, Scott and hopefully we'll cross paths another time soon. : )
Scott dude I'm right with you on all points. It was these little things that helped covid ride out smoothly. I also want to run up to all these musicians/artists etc at festivals and such but also don't want to be that guy. I'm pretty reserved so resisting the urge is not difficult but my ex would absolutely speak up and ask for a picture or a quick conversation and honestly I have not noticed any negative reaction. So long story short I've got like 100 pics with her and all our favorite musicians. I actually would have loved to have gotten in the picture but someone has to man the camera. And now as of 2 weeks ago after 22 years she is officially my ex. I suppose I should find all the pics of her with the artists and send them to her. I'll sleep on it.
Keith Sykes ain’t Jesus, but he knows Him. Dude knows everybody. Wonderful man.
A great American troubadour! Met his lifetime goal. Lucky us. Also lucky we have Otis to bring it on home.
Thank you!
brother otis gibbs the great generous caring talent paints a purrfect picture thr ua glimpse of aRev Todd Snider donating his time for communtiy radio and telling his stories and palying music and sharing his love passions and coolness.....cool cat Otis making a dope on cool cat Rev Todd...coool cat time !!!!! thanks yall much love - stephen jules otis careeer rubin
Todd is coming to the Mt. Baker Theater in Bellingham and you can bet your ass I'm gonna be there. So,so good!
Oh my god you can't wipe the smile off my face as I watch this. It's so freaking well done it's near perfect. Heartwarming Highways! Otis: Todd is a world heritage site and you and him are two of the people left in the world that still make me proud to be a human being. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
TOTAL HEARTWORN HIGHWAYS OMG YES
So fortunate to have seen Todd back in the day at The Dailey Planet in Memphis. I think the rugby team was there.....
Been a fan since the 90s. It doesn't get any better than this.
Tank you for the gift , as welcome and enjoyed as the cooling rain was this morning ✌❤☕
Thank you for hanging out!
Outstanding film. Well worth the wait.
Just when you think it can’t get any better - bam, gratuitous dog footage! Great movie. Definitely felt like it gave an accurate feel of the vibe of the thing.
Thanks, Keith & Ottis. Man, “Train Song” took me back a few decades to a Robert Earl Keen show, where I first heard of this Todd fellow. Never had the pleasure of seeing him, but if REK says you’re one of the greatest songwriters of all time, you can damn sure bank on it.
Love 🩵 Todd !
I can’t wait!
Thanks for this, Otis...you're doing good work. We need more decent people like you and Todd, and Keith, and all of the other troubadours out there on the road to counteract all of the negative vibes we've had to deal with these last few years. Godspeed!
Much love to ya, Steve!
@@otisgibbs Back at ya!
I was bummed out today when I heard Tony Bennett died, and damned if this movie didn't cheer me up. Thanks Otis, you're a treasure, and so is Todd. Great film making, brother!
I’m sure Todd is so happy you were there to document this. I know I am!
Damn, doesn’t get much better than Snider at Railgarten. With Keith Sykes...he was big when were in high school.
Otis the ending had me choked up!! The Folk community is filled with Awesome everyday people , The way Todd interacted with the crowd afterwards is a prime (Prine) example!! Thank you sir!! 🐿️😎🐿️
Otis, ya did it! This is a little gem of a film, thanks so much for sharing!
After Blaze ,This is my favorite person on this channel!
Well done, Otis. Todd looks and sounds fit as a fiddle!
This RULES!! Thanks brother
This is worth watching many times.
I wish I could like this more.
More highly anticipated than the Barbie movie IMHO 😉😁👍
Haha!
Otis was my introduction to Todd and so many other talents. Thanks Otis, terrific job on the film and the other content you share.
I think "our" Saturday chats are my favorites - just me, Otis and a couple hundred other like minded folks! I dropped something in the tip jar to help with coffee or a few new picks 😊.
Hell Yes ! Thank you so much Todd Snider and band and of course much love to Otis Gibbs and his good friend Todd Fox for shooting this wonderful film. Art for Arts' Sake !
Thank you for this.
Thank you Otis ! Checking in from Pensacola.
Because of otis8 d8scovered outlaw country. Haven't looked back
I hope this was a good thing. : )
Beyond Epic good sir!
So good! Thanks for doing this project. Love Todd and have been lucky to see and meet him over the years. 20 years ago he was the vessel that took me to so many other great musicians/artists and ultimately you. So grateful to know his music.
Hey Friends!
Howdo!
Thank you, Otis (and Todd Fox), for this incredible, unmatchable gift. So much I wanna say while the video is fresh in my mind but I'd only screw it up.
Until another time, suffice it to say that your spirit of love, generosity and gentle confidence, steeped in the REAL music scene and rich relationships with originals, people of character and flaws but all blessed with creative minds and expansive heart, make this gift - this free labour of love - so dear to me.
I've probably gone ahead and screwed it up anyway but thank you Otis and Mr. Fox; I hope you can grasp at least a little of the magnitude of gratitude from your fans here on your channel and from those with whom this is getting shared. Blessings guys.
I’ll be in my office drawing buildings and listening to this, thank you for taking the time to give a damn as much as we all do Otis! And for helping us give as much of a damn as we can.
Thanks, Aidan!
This is an absolutely awesome documentary Otis. I watch a lot of music docs and the 'professionals ' don't do it any better than this. A truly unobtrusive 'fly on the wall' perspective. ✌️🇨🇦
Well, that was wonderful! Thanks everyone!
How many great voices and how much artistry impression here?!? Todd Snider has entered a phase it seems, one with positive congruence as his talent makes sounds for All, made through a lifetime with All. ✌️🤟
Fantastic thanks for sharing X
GD Otis! Knocked it out of the park my man!
Thank you Otis, make sure you post a message next time you roll through Philly. I owe you a beer for sure.
Really good film. Thanks.
Great job, Otis! Loved this. Thanks Todd, Keith et all..
This is just such an amazing time capsule. The fact that it features covers, meaning Otis sees not a penny of profit from this video, so rhymes with the values Tom Snider stands for. It's not about the money. It's about the medicine. Amen, brother.
I don't have time to watch this right now, but I do have to say-- Hell Yeah! I love this!
Thank you and I'll make sure it's still here when ya get back. : )
This is beautiful. Love Todd... authentic and honest as they come. Great job Otis... your dedication and work is evident throughout... Great pairing... Really enjoyed this. Kudos to you both.
I was wracking my brain the other day - just thinking who, in the medium of music, is the most genuine artist out there. I thought about this for several hours weighing up so many different attributes and angles. Why did it take me so long? It’s obviously Todd. And it has been for some time.
Keep doing what you’re doing man. You are a true songwriter and salt of the folk scene. You have rubbed shoulders with the best of them and never looked out of place.
TSR!
Outstanding!
So this is what you were hinting about but didn’t want to jinx by talking about - well done, OG 🤩
I had no idea who these guys were until you started talking about them, Otis - and now I'm a fan. I'll be buying a few albums in the next week. This is absolutely fantastic stuff. Thank you so much for this!
I have seen Todd several times mainly at the Ark in Ann Arbor and would love to see him again when and if he comes back there. Thanks for making and sharing your Documentary it was a lot of fun.
I was one of those drinking in the Daily Planet. One of my running buddies was a rugby guy and he convinced me to go. I was also fortunate to see Keith Sykes at Trader Dicks way back when. I think it was in the early or mid 70s. Trader Dicks was a drinking pick up bar, with barely a stage stuffed in the front. I saw Keith every time he was there, which was often.
Otis this is fantastic, I’ll be anxiously waiting the release
Thank you!
Todd, you were taken in by my heros from the70s. I still follow singer songwriters. I'm 72 now and the first time I heard you I was on my lunch break during my civilian career as a research analyst at CT St. Police (word and numbers nerd). Your lyrics blew me away, it was in Middletown, CT so it was probably a Weslyan Univ. station. Wrote your name down and lyrics I remembered which I',d do in 1973 at Kris Kristofferson concerts. I'd try to learn his new songs before the record came out. God bless you Todd forsucceeding at my college phantasy. Still listening for new music. I'm a fan!
Otis sent me here and I'm so glad he did .
Really well made video. Love the musical performances. His version of Angel From Montgomery was absolutely outstanding.
This documentary RULES! Really nice work. Thank you for sharing.
Way to go Todd! It was I who invited him on the air at WEVL the first time. When I had a show called Folk Feast on Sunday nights. I still have a tape of that. Fun times. You just knew he was going to be a star. Thanks Otis.
This doc is so cool! Really captures the vibe of a singer/songwriter and their connection with their fans during, and after a performance. Plus, Todd’s hat reminds me of the one Dylan wears on the cover of Live ‘75, the Rolling Thunder bootleg.
I was having kind of a crummy day up until now!
Here's to better days!
@@otisgibbs ups and downs, strikes and gutters, ya know?
Wow, Diet Sprite and 1000 pts of light….amazing songs and performances
Thank you for sharing
From Texas, to High Pockets, to Melrose.. I always feel like, when I'm treveling, I gotta get a little bit closer.. Before I grew older and further apart.
Took my first trip to PA to see him in my 94 Accord. No phone. Just a map. Maybe 18.
Came back, and she switched up my room a bit. She helped me feel a little bit more eligible and grown.
When she left one night, he drove straight through from Florida, and after all was said and done.. he left me with this tape.. an old recording of missing you.
I hope it's still open and i can walk down those steps to find me a table during my travels. 😊
Hope to see you there, Friendo.
From a retired vet in Biloxi Mississippi, Thank yall for this.
Made me laugh and cry.
Love ya Man
Don't stop.
Thank you for this great experience. I am a new fan.
AWESOME OTIS. PERIOD.
Always like Keith's song "I'm Not Strange, I'm Just Like You"
LOVED this! Been a fan of Todd since 1995 back in my Bloomington days. Brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Man, thank you so much for making this. Todd's gratitude and reflection at this stage of his life is wonderful to watch. There aren't many musicians who care about the craft and the journey as much as he does. Made me smile the entire time watching it.
Thank you for putting this out in the world. Simply wonderful. Made my day.
That was such a fun couple of days. Figured you were up to something good lurking on the side of the stage,Otis so I didn’t introduce myself.
Was great seeing Todd in such a great mood, and as long as you are telling stories I will listen.
My goodness, that is terrific! Thanks Otis and all involved. 👍👍
Really fine work, Otis....Thanks so much for your efforts...
This is awesome thanks very much Otis
My Generation was the first Todd song I learned (and taught to my band).
My 2nd time watching this. It is so good!
😊
Thank you so much for making this Otis! Fantastic!
Thank you for making this Otis. It’s a masterpiece
Great work, Otis, thanks for doing this!
Otis I love your shot composition! The scene of Todd in the WEVL studio where half of the frame is Todd and the other half is the door jamb and part of the door is amazing. It’s unconventional but it really works! Loved the movie and I sharif on FB with my friends who are Todd fans.
Man, this is really great. Thanks a lot.
This is fantastic! Great Job Otis!
This is fantastic Otis - thank you very much!
This is super! Thanks so much!

This is so good. Thanks
THANK YOU! Otis for bringing this to us. Awesome
This was really great Otis, I waited the whole day to watch this properly up on the big screen and was not disappointed.
Thanks for this, Otis! Nicely done. I'm glad my lady and I were at the concert, but this is icing on the cake.
Loved every second of this.
Much respect.
Absolutely beautiful!!!
Well done.
This is so well done! Thank you.. Awards should be bestowed upon you for this.
