3 Days Solo Camping Through the Scottish Wilderness

- “Into the mountains I go, to lose my mind, and find my soul”
After a couple of months stuck at home, my adventure bug was reaching an all time high.
Hungry for the thrill of a new adventure, I packed my bag as light as possible, taking only the essentials with me, got on a cheap EasyJet flight to Inverness and started my 50km, 3 day hike from Cannich to Morvich. This East to West hike was stunning!
Hiking through old remnants of the Caledonian Forest in Glen Affric, my lungs were filled with pure, life-giving, clean air… filtered dutifully by giant Scots Pines.
I was in awe as I pitched my tent on a high bluff, overlooking the magical and moody Glen Affric below. The valley was filled with moisture clouds, the colours a mix of purple hues, dark greys, sombre greens…
Just in time to snuggle into my warm sleeping bag, it started to snow… dusting the forest floor with a carpet of fresh fluffy snow and making wake up time a delight!
The following day, I covered 22km, hiking through the valley, alongside partly frozen Lochs. The trees made way to the mountains and opened up the landscape to humbling proportions.
After some solid progress, it was time to find camp for the second night, and a river-side spot was too good to pass on. I pitched my tent, cooked up some warm food and enjoyed the views from my sleeping bag. Later, after some snow flurries, the sky cleared and a full moon lit up the entire valley, allowing for a great photo opportunity.
Finally, on day three, the weather gods rewarded me with the best yet. Clear, blue skies, low winds, and sunshine. The next 18kms were breath-taking. I could barely make any progress at times as I kept reaching for my camera.
Open, snow-covered mountains, beautiful bothy, streams and waterfalls everywhere! Which was useful, given my water filter broke on day one and was drinking everything neat.
Stopping at a special spot for lunch, I purposedly delayed my progress.. trying to hold on to that moment… even if just for a little longer.
Soon after, I was met with one of the most spectacular waterfalls I’ve ever seen in Scotland. As I passed the height of land, water went from flowing West to East, to now East to West. As volumes of water gathered into streams and rivers, it was all finally pushed into a tiny gorge over a steep, long, wonderfully mesmerizing waterfall. It really was too much to take!
Feeling fully re-energized, rejuvenated, and restored, I continued the final 10km through the flat but long valley all the way to Morvich.
With a 2-hour bus wait, I was able to find a lodge and devoured a hot meal, before returning to the bus stop and catching a bus to Inverness.
Scotland continues to fascinate me. It never disappoints.
Go out there and experience that wonderful land for yourself, you’ll be glad you did!
Thanks for watching as always and stay adventurous boys and girls!
Eze out.

Stunning landscape for sure. Spring is drawing near. Next time you’re back in Ontario Canada, you should consider Killarney Provincial Park, especially in autumn. If you want a free guide let me know, I am local.
Thanks for the tips and for the guide offer, appreciate it!!
Thank you for sharing your adventure! Thank you for taking me along, Eze. You have really captured the beauty of this place. Cheers!
My pleasure! Thanks as always for the support my buddy.
@@EzeAdventurer You're very welcome, my friend!
My first time watching you. This was a beautiful video! The landscapes were stunning and loved the waterfalls! Thanks for sharing!
Welcome aboard the adventure express my buddy! Glad you liked the video and thanks for commenting, appreciate it!
You had better weather than when I went to Scotland in September! Thanks for sharing this I want to give this way a try now, looks beautiful. I want to go up to Skye and do the Skye trail soon too 💫
Skye sounds amazing, still on the to do list for me!
Very beautiful The weather is nice and cooler than in Thailand. I really want to go review some.
Please do!!
Absolutely breath-taking wilderness mate. You could almost be in Sweden or somewhere with those mountains!
Totally!!!scotland is so underrated in some areas!! Thanks mate sending you and Laura much love as always
Very beautiful countryside. Thanks for bringing us along.
Glad you enjoyed it, welcome anytime my buddy!
Wow absolutely beautiful views and landscape! I could really do with some of this right now.
Also laughed when you said this tent has treated me well, I was taken back to Algonquin when the pole slapped you in the face 😂
That toe 🤢😂 was braced for the popping, disappointed but also relieved it didn't make the final edit 😅
Awesome video start to finish 👏
Hahaha totally! I forgot that tent also tried to kill me! I guess its a love hate relationship
Miss you buddy we need to go camping sometime soon hopefully. Do an epic Scotland trip before I go to USA
@@EzeAdventurer absolutely

Wow, thanks!! Definitely will keep going, always in the mood for more adventure and nature ! :-)
I think iv viewed every youtubers video doing the affric - Kintail way as find it a very inspirational area.
Maybe one day i can hike and camp the trail.
Eze your always positive give good vibes to inspire people to get out into the great outdoors... Thanks for sharing your video vlog. Atvb G
Thanks for the kind words my buddy!
A fine video! What a great place to backpack!!
Yes indeed! Thank you!
Really great video Eze
Thank you!!
Beautiful video. Thanks for the tip! Be bold, start cold.
Welcome!!
Oh man the view from that first campsite was incredible! Nothing ruins a good snow like a warm up and some rain lol. You should really try not to pop your blisters if you can help it they will heal so much better with less chance of infection, but if you just can't help it and you must lance them, sanitize the area and the lancing tool first with alcohol or sanitizer. Very smart to analyze the calories in your food before you carry it. Potato chips are my favorite, enough oil to be high in calories and enough carbs to be easy to digest, complete with the ideal amounts of sodium and potassium to replace the electrolytes you lose during exercise. I avoid protein supplements during exercise and eat a high protein meal later instead, that makes it way easier for my body to focus on converting food into energy that I can use right away. Then while I sleep at night I can digest a high protein meal more easily.
Thanks so much good tips. I did disinfect both area and tool with alcohol wipes, before and after :-) but yeah makes sense to avoid popping in the first place. Good info on the food, totally agree!
Amazing spot! What a great place to hike Eze. I used a garden hose with the jet spray nozzle on my filter when that happened and it works like new now.
Great tip buddy thanks, it's strange as I ALWAYS back flush it after every adventure, not sure what happened here, and I'm a little dubious to trust it going forward... maybe it's been damaged somehow? Not sure how to tell!
Amazing 2nd 🏕️ and sensational final day, up there as one of the best! I love the Scottish Highlands, straightforward to travel to and great wilderness 👏🏻
Couldn't Agee more!! Love Scotland!!! Thanks for watching and commenting, appreciate it!

Hahah pack your bags and GOOOOO!!!
@@EzeAdventurer if only it were that simple. 😀
You can do it buddy! Hope you get the opportunity!@@Outlawttv
I grew up on the Isle of Lewis, I was walking on the moor with my father and told him I was thirsty…. He told me to drink from a stream very similar to what you are doing and convinced me it was pure water …… 5 meters UP stream was the carcass of a dead sheep……lovely, however I’m still here
hahahaha what a story!! Thanks for sharing! Did you even get sick that time??
@@EzeAdventurer no, nothing

@@EzeAdventurer 😉 I understand bud. Great video, those views are absolutely stunning. It's a beautiful world. 👌
Thanks bud@@stagoutdoors
You should visit the outer Hebrides, you'll like it there with it's beautiful scenery and there's a walk there called the Hebridean way that starts from Vatersay and ends in Stornoway and good for sailing in the water's.
wow looks amazing!!! Would love to visit that some day, how do I get to the start point? Ferry from west coast of Scotland somewhere?
@@EzeAdventurer there's a Ferry from Oban to Castlebay you can get and you can walk from Castlebay to Vatersay or you can get the taxi from Castlebay to Vatersay. You can also go on sea tours like around my clans castle Kisimul Castle, even though at the moment it's still closed as they're doing maintenance work and there's also sea tours in Uist as well as long sea trip to the Isle of St Kilda which is the most western island in the outer Hebrides that used to belong to the clan MacDonald. There's only one ferry though on the day from Oban to Castlebay which leaves around 1 as the ferry company has been having problems lately with getting more Ferrys for the route. Also I would recommend in taking sun protection as even though the weather there is cooler then on the mainland you can still get sun burnt which I got sun burnt twice when visiting my clans island.
@@KingEdwardtheTurbulentNeill26 Thanks for the info!!

What a stunning place
It really is!!
Can I ask where you started, trip itinerary etc or if you followed the walk in a book. I’d like to recreate that walk as the paths looked achievable for me. Thanks for any help you can send.
VERY doable, I would rate this as easy/medium. Start at Cannich end in Morvich. Look up Affric Kintail Way. OS Maps recommended@@martinoutdoors6941
Very cool and relaxing video, nice hike 🙂Greetings from Sweden
Thank you very much! I can't wait to visit Sweden!!
@@EzeAdventurer you are welcome 🤗
Missed you x
Good to be back, thank you :-)!
top tip, apart from never go without the backflush syringe for your sawyer, light your stove, carefully pick it up keeping it dead level, then tilt it 90 degrees. you'll find you have a flamethrower thats shoots out about 5 or 6 feet..... and you will never try to cook on unstable surface ever ever again hehehehe
You reckon this is a back flush issue? I always back flush after every trip several times, really look after my filter.... I need to investigate but kinda concerned now if it's permanently damaged or not.
haha The flame thrower tip is a pro tip... will have to give that a go.
@@EzeAdventurer oh if you flush after every trip it should be ok.... thats odd, you can open the sawyer and see the filter directly. i take the syringe with me but i often use pretty bad water, i can see flow going down every couple of litres. yeah i tried to use my gas to help a fire get started, bit of a shock to see the flames do that, its the liquid reaching the nozzle instead of gas evaporating upwards... i believe i may have screamed a little hehehe
hahah sounds hilarious re stove!
yeah I know super weird re filter, I use really high quality water in most trips anyway so the debris, residue is minimal.. I will inspect. Didn't know you can open it to see it directly?!@@TheMadmacs
Hey Eze! It’s good to see you back out there in the countryside. Such beautiful views. Lots of meadows but where are all the trees?
I’ve never been to Scotland so I’m unfamiliar with the territory
So so beautiful, there's some areas where the trees don't really grow, I think the weather maybe and conditions not favourable? Or perhaps it's been grazed by sheep at some point in the past, not sure exactly. But alltogther extremely beautiful!
Best film yet, Eze. Beautifully shot. Excellent depth of field at times; we don't often see that in vlogs.
Was the problem with your water filter that it had in fact froze?
Thanks so much buddy! Testing with cinematic mode. Unfortunately didn't realise my phone only does 1080p in cinematic mode, so I paid a bit of a price there in quality, but hey you learn !
Still not sure what the cause was. Wasn't cold enough at that moment for filter to have frozen, doesn't make much sense...
Fantastic video buddy But I miss the Canoe. Hope you were telling the truth about that tripod because I have just ordered one after watching this, to take with me on my Scotland Kayak trip, So if it's no good I will come and find you and knock your tent over lol Hehe.
Once again great video buddy.
It's a fantastic tripod, really impressive, quick little tip, just make sure you secure the legs well with the turns! The system is great as it's quick to deploy, but in the haste of setting it up it's easy to forget to turn a knob fully and one of the legs can slide down if that makes any sense. Absolutely love mine! happy adventuring
@@EzeAdventurer Thanks for the tip 👍
@@EzeAdventurer Have an update for you matey. Got the Tripod and you're right bloody nice bit of kit. Cheers.
Awesome dude!!! Make sure you tighten those tripod legs well and you'll be flying!!@@THE-RIVER-RAT
@@EzeAdventurer Thanks for the tip
so you went to Turkey..it is my Native country..

Cheers mate
Wow so nice, do you have the route of this trail? How to reach the trail head from Inverness? Thanks’
Hi! I suggest looking up Affric Kintail Way online, there should be plenty of resources and maps to get you to the start point. I started from Cannich, but some people start from Drumnadrochit which makes the total distance about 70km (rather than 50 I did).
That part it seems isn't as beautiful so I chose to skip it.
Check this link out:
www.affrickintailway.com
@@EzeAdventurer thanks you so much for the tips. Cheers
Great video. Try a large syringe filled with fresh water pushed from the other end of filter to flush it.
Thanks buddy! I always do this when I come back home from camping trips etc, I keep my filter in really good working order, it's a bit strange. I may try back flush it again and see what happens, but I've lost a little confidence now and unsure if the filter is damaged...
Nothing worse than relying on it with full confidence and ending up not actually filtering pathogens!
Wow what a stunning video. I'm doing this hike in April and after watching your video I'm even more eager to go. Another beautifully made video eze 🎉❤ take care
You're in for a treat! April is perfect, no midges. Keep the weight as light as possible, carry no more than 300-400ml water at a time unless it's very dry. Water sources everywhere!
