Maverick hybrid uses a E-CVT (same type CVT as Toyota Prius). E-CVT is a planetary CVT with 2 Electice motors. It does not use an old school metal band across two cones. E-CVT is a much more relable CVT.

      @quadpit Před 8 měsíci +2

Glad you added this as a Prius owner I can vouch for the E-CVT reliability and I know the Maverick has similar. The Hybrid Maverick will probably be next vehicle if my 2008 Prius finally dies. ;-)

Direct labor only makes up about 5% of the cost of a vehicle. That would not total anything near $10k.

I got my AWD 4K XL Maverick a few weeks ago after going back and forth on the hybrid versus the AWD. What decided me was driving each version; the AWD is a much better handling vehicle than the hybrid, and the difference is so great as to be an entirely different vehicle classes. In my opinion, the AWD Maverick is much closer to a WRX in power and handling while the hybrid is a bump-steering truck doing truck things. You could trackday or autocross an AWD Maverick especially if you lowered it slightly but the hybrid's rear is an oversteering monster going into turns.
However, for most people driving on public roads, the hybrid is the better choice. The AWD Maverick, despite its looks, is very much in the AWD hot hatchback category. It's shockingly good through bumpy turns.
I feel the reviewers of the Maverick are entirely of the "truck doing truck things" while neglecting the driving enthusiast who want a daily driver while also occasionally attending a trackday. Hot hatches like the Ford Focus ST have such reviewers but not the Maverick. Yet when you look at the specs of the AWD...270 hp, AWD, locking differential, unibody construction, independent rear suspension, 4 discs brakes...then it's very much a hot hatch/sportscar and not a truck. I think you could lower the AWD and have a very competent trackday vehicle. The Ford Maverick isn't a 50:50 weight distribution but is 60:40...the same as the Ford Focus ST whose engine it share by the way.

I ordered the 2024 XLT 2.0 FWD last month, missed the 2023 order window by a few weeks last year. Due to long "lead" times I have had a chance to see and read many reviews and I have to reinforce what Austin said. I think this is the best option. Especially since the price of the Lariat is now about $4000 more than 2023
Cost is a big part of my decision to buy a Maverick as well as maintenance record of the 2.0 in my wife's 2014 Escape and some reported issues with the e-CVT/CVT.
Going to use this around town, going to Lowes, some trips to visit family... Would have been willing to consider the 2.5 Hybrid for the fuel economy but wanted the FWD and the Hybrid may delay the build. Not going to use this to tow anything, have other truck to do the towing if needed

So far the purchasing experience has been very disappointing, I placed a $500 down over a year ago with very little followup from Ford. The XLT checks all the boxes for me, probably the last vehicle I will purchase new. For my city driving the mpg looks great. Looks like it will be next year before I can put one in the garage, most people who need a new ride now have probably moved on. Thanks for the video, very well done.

I got lucky as well recently. Dealer about an hour from me had a customer back out on a 2023 Maverick XLT w/luxury package & Black Effects package. It's really more truck than I wanted but it's impossible to find a Maverick being sold at MSRP, at least around me. I called on 8 or 9 dealers (within about 4 hours) and all of them were marked up $5k - $9k. I found an XLT that had pretty much exactly what I wanted but it would've cost me $4-$5K more than the one I bought...with FEWER options. So I pulled the trigger. So far, so good. Love the drive and the first short 100 mile round trip I took with it I averaged over 40mpg, over 75% hwy miles. Added spray in bed liner and tonneau cover and some small add-ons to the interior including wireless apple car play.

Yeah one thing that will be a value that you did not mention is on the ecoboost itself which is the All wheel drive which paired with the hitch package (which only comes with the ecoboost) will be a worthwhile thing as people would want to add that as an option later. Also the spray in bed liner would also be selling point to some over the drop in. Both of those options would add. Its odd neither of you talked about the towing aspects for the all wheel drive and that being a major factor for the ecoboost.

While this video might, and I mean "might" have been relevant for the 2023 Ford Maverick consumer, it is NOT for those wanting a 2024. The basic XL model you recommend is great for those who only want a small pickup with ugly wheels or a business for their fleet. In my humble opinion, if a Maverick consumer wishes to have fun or really enjoy their truck then either the XLT (which you recommended for 2024) or the Lariat because in 2024 the options you might have paid extra for in the 2023 models come standard in 2024. Yes, the base price for all 2024 models is higher than 2023s, but show me a vehicle that didn't rise in price. The Lariat comes with the Luxury package standard, the 2.0 L Ecoboost standard, Co-pilot 360 standard, remote start standard, 400w/110 inverter, an electric sliding rear window standard, and the 2" receiver standard to name a few! The only two options I ordered on my 2024 Lariat Tremor were the Tremor off-road package (suspension upgrade, skid plate, 2" lift, adv 4wd) and the $75 wheel locks so my 17" aluminum rims and 235x65R17 A/T tires. The one option Ford should provide all Hybrid owners is a good fire extinguisher.

The Santa is not really a truck. Hyundai calls it a SAV (Sport Adventure) because the bed can only hold 660 lbs of weight. It basically is a Tucson without the rear hatchback door. Also the bed is shorter, so for less money, you can get more "truck" with the Mav.

We live in NC so winters here are not bad. This will not be my daily driver and I have 2 4wheel drive vehicles if it does get bad. This is a vehicle we plan to keep for years and years. We mostly just plan on using it for runs to the dump or goodwill or Lowe's or something like that so it will not be driven many miles per year. I really want the gas mileage of the hybrid but am worried after say 10 years or so I would need to replace the battery in the hybrid where the ecoboost would not have that issue. Any advice?

More items to maintain on the ecoboost vs the hybrid which main substantial maintenance expense is the battery eventually. It all comes out about even.

We call them ENGINES ! Not motors if they are ICE !
I believe that Ford has removed the heated wipers...no longer available on any trim.
400 Watt inverter in console as a stand alone option no longer available.
FX4 pkg now requires 4KTow ...no longer separate.
'Full size spare'. seems to now be included with FX4.
Many other items changed for 2024 model year...so watch out.
Carvana is no deal to sell to...they only pay way below wholesale.
    I own two 2022 mavericks.
One an XLT Hybrid, the other and XLT EcoBoost, AWD, FX4, 4KTow.
hybrid has 9500 miles on itself and Eco has just 3500 miles.
No real issues with either that TSBs and Recalls could not fix.
I have gotten up to 530 miles per tank on hybrid.
hybrid can get as bad as 21mpg or as good as 50 mpg....It hates speeds over 75mph. (Just average those two to get a real world figure for near what one can expect overall).
EcoBoost with 4ktow, which gives different rear end ratio averages about 25mpg at best.
EcoBoost with 8 speed is a dangerous vehicle to attempt to pull from a stop sign in front of traffic. No guts from the standstill. Also this vehicle with it's rear suspension, rocks very slightly at freeway speeds and can cause mild motion sickness.
You guys may possibly be correct that the AWD EcoBoost may go around low speed corners more quickly.
The two vehicles drive very similarly, yet I'd take the Hybrid as my favorite even not considering it's mileage benefit.
At current prices for 2024 my, neither is a deal anymore.
To replace my 2022 hybrid XLT would cost about $5600 more now.
To replace my 2022 EcoBoost would cost about $2975 more now.
I have always hated the low density foam of the seats, yet never a back ache, even driving coast to coast twice.
I still hate that there is no angle adjustment for base cushion....it has too much under. thigh support currently.
I paid $2280 more for the XLT as I wanted the cruise. Hate the convoluted controls for same.
Now XL model comes with cruise, yet still no pwr mirrors.....yet now costs about $2275 more than for the 2022my.
Ford has found lots of ways to cheat on everything, gradually increasing pricing as well.
Judging from the show of accident damage for these on forums, this vehicle is very weak, thin metal.
Overall a very good 'appliance' vehicle, surely not a sports vehicle. Formerly a lot of bang for the buck.
Now it's a tossup compared to other vehicles and prices.
