  • Today, we're going to be redesigning your logos that you submitted!
    My Assets are from Adobe Stock ► First Month FREE: bit.ly/AdobeStockTrial
    Tools Used ► Adobe CC : bit.ly/AdobeCCLink
    The Process
    ---------------------
    I'll give some design critique for each of the logos, and talk about their use of color, typography, hierarchy, and overall theme.
    I'll be using Adobe Illustrator CC and Photoshop CC to create the logos. We'll design everything from scratch, including: choosing fonts, picking color schemes, coming up with logo design concepts, creating custom illustrations, and ensuring all of the logos meet their intended use cases and goals.

      I kind of agree with this comment. I didn't mind the Green Eggs & Ram text inside the egg, but once the circuit board elements were added, it took away the negative space and made it too busy. The egg could have been made to also be a mouse by adding a little bit of mouse cord coming out the top.

      Also, it kinda already looks like a mouse tbh. The only reason you’d 100% think it’s an egg is if you saw this video and heard him say it’s an egg. It’s pretty cool imo that it could be interpreted as an egg or a computer mouse lol

  • @JosephJoeseph
    @JosephJoeseph Před rokem +338

    I think the reason so many people (including me) feel that Troop's oiriginal personality was lost in the redesign is that instead of changing the text to fit the illustration, you changed the illustration to fit the text. The illustration is what gave the logo its personality, not the text. It could have been improved of course, the necktie should have been a solid color, using a different color for the hair would have framed the face a lot better and given the whole illustration a more defined silouette and the collar wasn't necessary (though I do really like the extra flair it adds but I could be fine with it going or staying as well). I also think that although the variety of line weight is a large part of the illustration's personality, some more careful attention to where exactly the lines got thinner and thicker could have made it look a lot cleaner. But the main thing is, I definetely think the font should have been adjusted to fit the illustration and not the other way around. Of course I'm not a graphic designer, I have been doing art basically since I could hold a pencil so I have some translateable knowledge but obviously the two are entirely different beasts, but I do still think shifting your basic approach to the redesing could have preserved the original's feel a lot better, even if the specifics are definetely best left to you.

    • @AidanBueling
      @AidanBueling Před 11 měsíci +25

      This was exactly my thought, and I was really surprised when he changed the picture to fit the text rather than the other way around. I just thought it seemed so obvious that the text needed to be changed to fit the illustration that I hadn't even considered the other option. Definitely a poor choice.

      @mixer1014 Před 9 měsíci +3

      I’m a major In Graphic design and I completely agree, having varied stoke weights in the illustration gives a more organic look. It’s much more appropriate to adjust the text to fit the illustration because we should also take into account that the logo may need to be applied to other packaging items or stickers where the text won’t be very legible or necessary, so the illustration is what gives the brand it’s main identity, if there are going to be scenarios where text isn’t applied the illustration has to be carefully considered which I think it definitely was.

    I loved all the redesigns! I think the redesign for the last one lost a bit of the "adult" flair the original one had with the thinner lines (?), but this is coming from a consumer only standpoint with no art background. Your creativity and thought process is amazing to watch.

    • @Coeurlarme
      @Coeurlarme Před rokem +72

      as someone with an art background (but not a graphic design one), i also liked the first one better. The illustration was giving me vintage vibes which i thought fitted the topic better, and as a whole it just felt more "ornate", which while i understand the need for simplicity, is still something I feel is somewhat missing with the redesign. Also the pastel colors felt a bit more feminine, which is something i associate with bakeries more.

    • @theresahoelzl
      @theresahoelzl Před rokem +17

      As someone with a graphic design background I can tell you the original illustration looks really good as an illustration, but for a logo tiny and slim lines like that are often a Problem, imagine you want to print it out smaller (put the logo on the head of a letter or whatever) for exampel the white lines on the glasses could look like an "error" from the printer because they are just to slim. If you squeeze your eyes while looking at the comparison of the logos you can tell that the yellow of the cloth around her neck is not as visible in the original version. Overall I really like the design! (both original and "redesign") But for a logo changes of that sort would make sense, its also really helpful to print out a design, you can really tell which lines could be problematic since a printed out image looks really different compared to your screen. I hope my english made sense at all. :')

    • @AmalieLinden
      @AmalieLinden Před rokem +22

      As another person with graphic design background who can't shut up, I'm going to agree that the first absolutely looks better. Now as the other person mentioned, it *is* more impractical because of the thin lines, and so truly, it'd only really work on a higher scale. But the redesign takes out all of the vintage and more mature vibes that the original logo has, and turns it more corporate looking (I felt that the ice cream logo also turned too corporate as well). It's usually in cases like these where you then talk with the customer about what they want/need to use the logo for, as, if you only need it in a big and medium sized format, you could just settle on making the lines a little thicker, removing anything excess, and call it a day. I would definitely try to keep it fun, keep the hair blond, and try to keep it looking vintage if it was me 😌 Though this is also just a testamony of how you get a different result by hiring different graphic designers lol.
      I became a graphic designer due to my background in art, so my brain automatically turns to "How do I preserve the artistic feel of this" when redesigning logos, versus Brandons approach of "How do I turn this logo as optimal to print as possible". It's crucial to think of both! But it's *when* you start thinking about those things that drastically change the results lol. Hope my comment didn't bore you !!

    I like both of the ice cream logos, however I feel more drawn to the original as it is more complex giving it the look that I has probably been designed back when these logos were like this in the 1900’s. This gives it a sense of originality and personally think it would look great with a “since 1937” tagline or something to make it seem like it’s existed longer. The new one yiu made is more up to standards with the 21st century and also works great for modernity

    I love the redesign of the Troop Detroit logo, bc by using shapes instead of strokes, you can get a variety of skintones into the logo and make it more diverseby just changing the colors and background. The OG defenetly looked a little dated back in the mid 2010's, but this new has a lot more personality, and defenetly looks more grown up.

    Very tempted to redesign the original Troop illustration with thick contour lines and thin cross contour lines to make it visually more cohesive.
    Otherwise, the original looks pretty good to me; it reminds me of an old school stamp. Even the text on the sides of the illustration look good (though my graphic design professor would pitch a fit over having text aligned from top to bottom).

    This is great designing overall, great job. One thing I would change in the last one is to make the letters a bit taller and maybe elongate the T and P downwards to make it more rustic/vintage just to give a more girl scout-ish vibe. That's just me though

    Overall, they all look fantastic! I only recently got introduced to this channel and Brandon, you're fantastically talented. It's such a joy to watch you work. 🤩
    1st felt a little too simplified, I feel like somewhere in between the original cluttered design and the newer simplified one would have been perfect.
    2nd completely baffled me, I did not like the original logo, but somehow the new logo, which looks great, is similar to the original
    3rd is aweome, I like the new one more, but I felt like a bit of the identity changed, maybe instead of going down the thicker route, thinner could've kept the original feel more

    I think one of the major issues with the troop redesign is the face shape. There was a cool confidence to the original sketch which is lost in the new one, but I do appreciate that some changes need to be made. The thick glasses tint is definitely a concrete example of something I would not have included. (The first logo redesign is very good)

    For the banook and Timbers ice cream I believe it was meant to look like a Boy Scouts wilderness badge which I really liked, getting rid of the stitching and cross hatches kinda took away that vibe and I still prefer the first one. You also got rid of the bear and the beaver which were an enjoyable mascot
