Ford did that, and they found that the benefits of DOHC diminishes as cylinder diameter increases. They made an off-road only Raptor with a DOHC 6.2 that put out 500 hp / 500 ft-lb torque I read one write up about it and basically it lived up to it's designation as a competition only engine. The problem is as bore increases there isn't the margin of efficiency due to DOHC that smaller bores give. So a 6.2 DOHC can make more power than a 6.2 OHV, but not a lot and it weighs more is a much bigger engine. Ford also tested a 5.8 liter DOHC but they killed it because fuel burn was awful and they found the 5.0 was more capable than they thought at the onset. People loved the SOHC 6.2, it was an extremely durable engine, Ford had reason for moving to the 7.3 given the impact it has had, I'm gonna yet again admit they know better than I on this topic. I'll put my fishing strategy against them any time, but trucks? I'll just buy Ford.

The 6.2 in the Silverado is tuned aggressively, only 35hp down from the SS Camaro. The F150 Gen to Gen is typically down 80hp from the GT. They are limited to their factory displacement and will never make more than 600hp NA. Not to mention GM's pushrod motors are far easier to work on. We have 6 F150s currently from 2016-2022 with the ecos and 5.0s. We put about 50 to 60k on our trucks per year. Mostly highway but when we're at a jobsite we're often somewhere you have to have 4wd. I wasn't big on the ecoboost at first. I love V8s in anything. I didnt get to pick the last truck engine like this time and was a little bummed about driving an ecoboost. It slowly grew on me. As others have said, it's amazing how it takes GMs 6.2 to compete with Fords 5.0. The 5.0 is such a more efficient engine for power per liter. I'm a full time mechanic, I can say I would rather work on the 6.2, but the goal is to not have to work on them at all. I had a 2014 F150 5.0 for years and loved it, but I was disappointed when the Cylinder head formed a hairline crack that caused it to leak oil. Couldn't believe it and everybody I've talked to, including the machine shop my shop deals with, have never heard of or seen that happen on the 5.0 engines. I did sell that (I informed the buyer of the problem and sold it much cheaper than KBB) and upgraded to a Dodge Cummins. But I still maintain that right now, fords 5.0 is the most efficient engine on the market and the best as far as aftermarket support. All you have to do on a 5.0, is slap a supercharger on it and you're making 500-650rwhp.

If I could just get it to stop making so much noise from the cam phasers and octane ping...would be even better!

Had the coyote in my mustang and blew 2 up at the track. Ls swapped to a 6.2 and have been killin it since. Coyote bottom ends can't handle the boost and are much more expensive than ls's. They are great for daily driving but the ls in my opinion is the superior engine
